Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
Update on the Music Ministry
As you may be aware, Paul Ciotti is no longer our Director of Music &
Worship. After many conversations with people in the Reading
Catholic Community, along with our embrace of the Dynamic Parish
Program, and with the help of a number of choir members, I have
decided to enhance our music ministry by utilizing the incredible
musical talent we have in our community.
I know this means some change for the music program but I hope and pray that you will have patience as we
get the new music program organized and underway. Getting the Collaborative off the ground has been
very challenging - yet we have come a long way! Getting the music program right is another big challenge
and if we approach this just as we did the Collaborative, we will all benefit from beautiful, praise-filled music
at our weekend Masses. Everyone loves a challenge, well…… there is incredible musical talent in our
community, and I hope that many will come forward to help lead us to the next level.
Reverencing God’s Word for Us
Pope Francis has given our Church a great gift. Next weekend we will celebrate, for the first time ever, Word
of God Sunday. The Holy Father is calling us to an even deeper encounter His Word for us. Our community
is blessed with the joyful sound of greeting each other with love as a community of faith at Mass and the
sound of silence when we listen to Our Lord together during Mass. Our lives and our world are filled with so
much noise. We thank God for the “sound of silence” which we experience especially when His Word is
spoken and His blessing comes during the Eucharistic Prayer. Enjoy this sabbatical from the noise of life and
these deep moments of reverent encounters with Our Lord. Thank you, Lord, for ministering to us in the
Reading Catholic Community so beautifully in Word and Sacrament.
More on Word of God Sunday
CATHOLIC NEWS SERVICE, ROME - To help the
Church grow in love and faithful witness to God,
Pope Francis has declared the third Sunday in
Ordinary Time to be dedicated to the word of
God. Salvation, faith, unity and mercy all depend
on knowing Christ and sacred Scripture, he said in
a new document.
Devoting a special day “to the celebration, study
and dissemination of the word of God” will help
the Church “experience anew how the risen Lord
opens up for us the treasury of his word and
enables us to proclaim its unfathomable riches
before the world,” the pope said.

Archdiocese Collection: Church in Latin America
Next week, we will take up the Collection for the Church in Latin America. For many in Latin America and the
Caribbean, a rising secular culture, difficult rural terrain, and a shortage of ministers all present obstacles to
practicing the faith. Your support for the collection provides lay leadership training, catechesis, priestly and
religious formation, and other programs to share our Catholic faith with those who long to hear the Good
News of Christ. To learn more about how your gifts make a difference, visit www.usccb.org/latin-america.
As usual, St. Athanasius will have a separate second collection. As a portion of St. Agnes’ one collection will
go toward this collection, please consider increasing your usual offertory to accommodate for this collection.

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
week of the Question
Are we open to seeing the Holy Spirit
acting through unexpected people or
guiding us in unexpected ways?
Christmas Time and Easter Time highlight the central
mysteries of the Paschal Mystery, namely, the
incarnation, death on the cross, resurrection, and
ascension of Jesus Christ, and the descent of the Holy
Spirit at Pentecost.
The Sundays and weeks of Ordinary Time, on the
other hand, take us through the life of Christ. This is
the time of conversion. This is living the life of Christ.
Ordinary Time is a time for growth and maturation, a
time in which the mystery of Christ is called to
penetrate ever more deeply into history until all
things are finally caught up in Christ. The goal, toward
which all of history is directed, is represented by the
final Sunday in Ordinary Time, the Solemnity of Our
Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe.
The Changing of the Seasons: From Christmas Time to Ordinary Time

Athanasius’ crèche last weekend, before it is stored
as we move into Ordinary Time.
2019 Christmas Flower Offering In memory of loved ones who have passed.
May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord let His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. May the Lord look upon
you kindly and give you peace.

A Warm & Heartfelt THANK YOU!
Lazarus House Ministry Clothing Drive extends a great big Thank You to all who donated: from one pair of
socks to 6 baseball gloves!! This drive was, again, a huge success. Four SUV’s and 2 cars packed to the brim
brought clothing to Lazarus House the weekend after the drive. Judy, one of the 3 store Managers, was full
of smiles and enthusiasm as we arrived with the clothing. We were so delighted with everyone’s efforts of
buying new hats, socks, gloves, underwear, toiletries, jackets (both winter and spring). The gently used
clothing was all in superb shape. Thank You so, so very much. Keep saving for the Spring Drive!!
Many, Many Blessings
