Those of us who call the Franklin area “home” are so blessed to live in such a beautiful place. Our daily commute is surrounded by breathtaking scenery that many around the world may never experience in their

This summer I spent some time fishing in the Nantahala National Forest, which contains some of

the most beautiful scenery in the mountains. With the noisy waters of Kimsey Creek and the surrounding

rhododendrons in bloom, it was just surreal. According to the Great Smoky Mountains Association, this year the

rhodos are in “super bloom,” with possibly the largest number of blooms in over 100 years! Gorgeous white & pink blooms appeared to serve as lights throughout the

dense forest, making what is typically very dim, bright and vibrant. It was a sight to behold!

If you have your own equipment, there is plenty of parking at both the launch area and at the Nantahala Outdoor Center located just off of U.S. Hwy 19.
