MAN’S FALL: THE PROCESS OF SIN

“But each one is tempted when:• he is carried away and • enticed by his own lust. Then, • when lust has conceived, it gives birth

to sin; and • when sin is accomplished, it brings

forth death.” James 1: 14-15

MAN’S FALL: “…ONE IS TEMPTED…”

Satan uses the physical senses to tempt man’s soul to disbelieve and disobey and God:1. Intellect: Temptation to

doubt and disbelieve

(Unbelief)

2. Emotions: Temptation to

forgo God’s love for the

love of others things

GOD’S INQUIRY, CONDEMNATION16 To the woman He said, “I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth, in pain you will bring forth children; yet your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”17 Then to Adam He said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat from it; Cursed is the ground because of you; In toil you will eat of it all the days of your life.18 “Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you; and you will eat the plants of the field;19 By the sweat of your face you will eat bread, till you return to the ground,Because from it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

“Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you

will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground…”

THE NEED FOR REDEMPTION

Why Do We Need It?A. The Brokenness of Man

1. The original sin• The Catholic concept: “Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,

And in sin my mother conceived me…” (Psalm 51:5 )• The Evangelical concept: “Therefore, just as through one

man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned … (Rom 5:12)

2. The sin nature: The propensity and inclination to sin3. The result of the sinful nature: The practice of sin

• Consequence: “Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.” (Romans 5:14)

Page 22: The redemption of man

SIN CORRUPTS ALL OF MAN16 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all

ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the

truth in unrighteousness,... 21 For even though they knew

God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but

they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish

heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and

exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image

in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed

animals and crawling creatures.24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts

to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and

worshiped and served the creature rather than the

Creator, who is blessed forever. 27 … and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of

their error.32 … that those who practice such things are worthy of

death

Sin affects all of man:

(Romans 1: 16-32)

-Depraved Minds (vs.28)• Futile

Speculations• Fools

-Foolish Hearts• Darkness• Lustful

-Dishonored Bodies• Sickness• Death

WHAT IS LACKING FROM MAN’S APPROACH

A. Underestimate The Problem (The Depravity of Man is pervasive- whole being is

polluted)

1. Soul (Mind, Brain- Means for Decision-making)

2. Spirit (Means of interacting with the Life-Giver)

3. Body (Means of interacting with the physical

world)

Page 28: The redemption of man

WHAT IS LACKING FROM MAN’S APPROACH

B. Underestimate Man’s adversaries(They are not easily identified /defeated)

1. The Devil (the powerful enemy of our souls)

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks

about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” 1

Peter 5:8

uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, …” Romans 6:19

“We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.” 1 John 5:19

“For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust

of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of

the world.” 1 John 2:16

members to bear fruit to death. “ Romans 7:5

MYTHS ABOUT REDEMPTION

1. Redemption is a single transaction:A. It is only about going to heaven eventually

B. It is just a change of position (condemned to saved)

C. Redemption was accomplished completely at the cross

2. Redemption is exclusively about salvation of the soulA. All else that man is will be destroyed

B. Only the soul will go to heaven

3. Redemption is the work of God alone1. Man has no part in it

2. If anything, man only needs to give in: “Let go and let God…”

Page 45: The redemption of man

TRUTHS ABOUT REDEMPTION

1. Redemption starts with a single transaction:A.The price of Redemption was paid completely at the crossB.The access to God is open. The offer of salvation is available to all men.C.Whosoever believes changes position (death to life); receives the

assurance of salvation2. Redemption is about salvation of the soul and the

restoration of the whole man:A. A clean heart, a renewed spirit. A new body at the resurrectionB. This restoration is a process that starts here and ends there

3. Salvation is the work of God, but man’s will is involved. Redemption also involves the active participation of man1. An expressed desire to be redeemed completely2. Applied spiritual effort to allow God to restore us. Yield to the Spirit of

God3. Fight daily the battle of faith with the armor of God4. Allow the Lord to cleanse him daily.
