We assemble out of love and reverence for God for we desire to worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24, 14:15). Assembling for worship is not only something we should do, but something we are honored to do in praising our awesome God (Heb. 10:24-25, Acts 20:7-11, 1 Cor. 11:1-2, 17-20, 33-34, 16:1-2)! Seeing Good in the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Paul said that “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” (Rom. 8:28). If you wonder what good might be found in the recent outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), consider a few ways:

COVID-19 helps us to focus on things eternal, instead of things transient (2 Cor. 4:18)

It helps us to see that real luxury in this life is love for God, brethren, family and friends, not material things (Ps. 127:3, Prov. 17:17)

It lets us unite and rally around a cause, seeing that other’s needs are prime opportunities to lend a helping hand and glorify God (Acts 2:45, 4:35, Col. 3:12-14, Gal. 6:2)

It lets us honor those healthcare workers who diligently serve in the trenches with care and compassion, even putting their lives at risk for the good of others (John 15:13, Rom. 13:7)

It helps us to center and reevaluate needs versus wants, knowing that we can manage without some con-veniences and be just fine (Matt. 6:28-33)

It helps us to lean not upon the flesh, but upon God’s comforting rod and staff when disease and death are around (Ps. 23:4)

It helps turn our hearts toward Jesus who learned obedience through what He suffered (Heb. 5:8)

It helps us long for heaven where the pale horse of pestilence, disease and death no longer destroy (Rev. 6:8, 21:4)

God help us to look for look for the good in trials and pray that His peace will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Phil. 4:7-8).

Forsaking the Assembly and the Circumstances Surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

A vibrant church family desires to be together to fellowship and build each other up in the most holy faith (1 Thess. 5:11, Acts 20:32). At Warner Robins, many brethren have sacrificed for decades to give us such a nice facility to worship. We thank God for this blessing!

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER LIST

Please pray for all the on-going Bible studies.

Recently, lively discussion has ensued concerning congregations who have dismissed services due to risks of exposure from the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Some would seem to suggest that congregations that tem-porarily suspend their larger gatherings are fearful or faithless. In fact, some may go so far as to seem to sug-gest that elders are overstepping their boundaries and encouraging outright disobedience. Is this true? Do their allegations have any justifiable merit? How do we faithfully move forward in these trying times when we are adamantly trying to sidestep this ravaging pestilence? First, consider that God expects mankind to exercise wisdom given changing circumstances as we live out lives of faith (Eccl. 3, Matt. 10:16). Yes, God expects people to worship (John 4:23-24) and this worship should be done in wisdom. In the Old Testament, King David had men of Issachar, “men who had understand-ing of the times” who helped guide Israel (1 Chron. 12:32). Wisdom was gained in applying insights from a mul-titude of counselors (Prov. 11:14, 15:22, 24:6). The CDC, Georgia Governor Kemp, and President Trump have recommended limiting groups to 10 or less to minimize exposure leading to possible disease or even death. It has been confirmed that people in other faith-based groups have exposed others to the virus. If we can worship God in spirit and in truth in small gatherings, while not putting ourselves or others at risk, why would anyone, given the great degree of potential harm, insist otherwise in these moments (Rom. 13:1-7)? Second, consider that saints can worship in homes in small groups out of love, instead of fear (1 John 4:18). It is not fair to assume that people who choose to worship outside a typical larger assembly are faithless or fearful. A building facilitates fellowship and worship, but God is not confined to a structure of human hands (Acts 7:48, 17:24). In the first century brethren met in houses at times (Col. 4:15, Phm. 2, Rom. 16:4-5, 1 Cor. 16:19), and at other times in larger assemblies (1 Cor. 11). The church adapted in periods of distress (Matt. 24:15-24, 1 Cor. 7:26). As we consider that COVID-19 could potentially disease or even destroy the body, we take conscientious precautions while not living in anxious worry or fear (Matt. 10:28). The Old Testament is a

great teacher on health isolation and quarantine due to leprosy (Lev. 13:4,31-33, 45-46, 14:8, Rom. 15:4). Lep-rosy could contaminate Israel and so people were periodically evaluated until they were clean before reenter-ing the camp (Num. 5:2, Luke 17:12, 2 Kings 7:3, 15:5, 2 Chron. 26:21). Let’s not be given to extremes during this present distress, but instead live out our lives in hopeful an-ticipation while glorifying our great God!

The Elders’ Edification Types of Giving in the Bible, Examples – What is Giving in the Bible?

By Mike Riley In this article, let us briefly look at examples what is giving in the Bible: 1) The Willing Giver – Abraham, who offered his only son (Genesis 22:1-19). 2) The Big Little Giver – The widow, who as she gave two mites, answered the question, “What is giving” and gave all she had (Mark 12:42-44) and became one of the finest exam-ples of givers in the Bible. 3) The Stingy Giver – Saul, who wanted to offer the spoils of the Amalekites (1 Samuel 14:17-23). 4) The Sacrificial Giver – David, who refused to give that which cost him nothing (2 Samuel 24:24). 5) The Covetous Givers – Ananias and Sapphira, (a second negative of the types of giving in the Bible) who held back part of the price of their possession pretending to give all (Acts 5:1-10). 6) The Consecrated Givers – The Macedonians, who first gave of themselves to the Lord (2 Corinthians 8:1-5). 7) The Life Givers – Peter and John, who had neither silver or gold, but instead gave life to the lame man (Acts 3:1-9). 8) The Voluntary Giver – Zacchaeus, who gave of his goods to feed the poor without being asked (Luke 19:1-9). 9) The Reward Givers – Those who gave to be seen of men. They had their only reward here on earth (Matthew 6:2). 10) The Unpretentious Giver – The Samaritan, who made no show of his giving (Luke 10:25-37). 11) The Perfumed Givers – The Philippians, whose gifts were “an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God” (Philippians 4:18). 12) The Greatest Giver – God, who gave His only begotten Son for you and me that we might be saved (John 3:16-17). In this list of types of giving in the Bible, which giver best describes you? Let’s seriously think about these examples of giving and then strive to give our best to the Lord and His service. The Lord gave us the best that heaven had to offer, the sacrifice of His Son (Hebrews 9:11-14; 1 Peter 1:18-19). Answer the question, “What is giving?”
