THE COASTS
The coasts of Europe are very different. There are two kinds of coasts depending on the sea or ocean that is surrounded: ATLANTIC COAST: It is very rocky and we can see:
ISLANDS – for example: Iceland and the United Kingdom CAPES – for example: Fisterra cape GOLFS – for example: Bizcay Golf
MEDITERRANEAN COAST: It is low and sandy, we can see: PENÍNSULAS: Iberian peninsula, Italian peninsula and
Balkanian peninsula ISLANDS – for example: Creta, Chipre, Sicilia ARCHIPELAGOS – for example: the Balearic Islands in Spain
EUROPEAN CLIMATES
In Europe, we can distinguish six different kinds of climate: POLAR CLIMATE CONTINENTAL CLIMATE OCEANIC CLIMATE MOUNTAIN CLIMATE MEDITERRANEAN CLIMATE SUBTROPICAL CLIMATE
POLAR CLIMATE
It is in the North of Europe, near to the Artic Ocean
The temperatures are low all the yearThe precipitations are not too much,
but it snows.
CONTINENTAL CLIMATE
It is in the East of EuropeThe temperatures are extremes:It doesn’t rain a lot, only in spring or
autumn Very hot in summer Very cold in winter
OCEANIC CLIMATE
It is in the north of Spain, Franche, the United Kingdom, Germany
It rains all the year, mainly in autumn and winter
Soft winters and soft summers
MOUNTAIN CLIMATE
It is in the high places of Europe, for example: the Pyrenees, the Alps, etc.
The temperatures are cold in winter and soft in summer
There are a lot of precipitation. In winter, it normally snows and in summer, it normally rains.
MEDITERRANEAN CLIMATE
It is in the countries that are next to the Mediterranean Sea – for example: Italy, Spain, Greece.
The temperatures are soft in winter and hot in summer
The precipitations are irregular, they depend on the season. Sometimes they can cause big problems, such as flood.
SUBTROPICAL CLIMATE
It is in the Canary IslandsThe temperatures are soft (15-20 ºC)
all the yearIt doesn’t rain a lot
