THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
Respiratory system is very important
Used for breathing Inhale threw nose Breathe goes threw
pharynx Carries air down
windpipe The epiglottis covers
top of larynx ( keeps food out of lungs)
THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM CONTINUED voice box sits on top of
the windpipe vocal cords that help you
talk, sing, hum, or cough vocal cords take air to the
lungs bronchial tree takes air to
the bottom of the lungs In the lungs thousands of
tiny air sacs called Alveoli extend off the end of the smallest bronchioles
Finally oxygen enters your bloodstream
NOSE
You breathe through your nose
You smell through your nose
Your nose starts the respiratory cycle
Your nose cleanses the air as it passes threw
PHARYNX
It is located in your throat
Food goes threw it Carries Air threw it
down to the windpipe
EPIGLOTTIS
A piece of cartilage Blocks food from
going to lungs Leaf shaped Covers the top of
larynx
LARYNX
Also known as the voice box
Funnel shaped organ Located in the throat Passes through hear
from epiglottis down to the vocal cords
VOCAL CORDS
Vocal cords are also known as vocal folds
Structures in the larynx
Designed to vibrate when air is passing by
Helps you talk, sing, hum, or cough
TRACHEA
Also known as the wind pipe
Bony tube Connects nose to
the mouth to lungs
BRONCHIAL TREE
Part of the internal structure
Known as the lung tree
Allows humans to exchange air
Have little air sacs called Alveoli
extend off the end of the smallest bronchioles
LUNGS
A vital organ Lungs have lobs left
lung 2, right lung 3 Pink and spongy Part of the
respiratory system
ALVEOLI
They are Tiny air sacs
Located In the lungs
Come the end of the bronchial trees
There are thousands of them
