Germany faced problems after WW1:
* lost land with valuable natural resources
*2 1/2 million Germans lost their lives
*4 million were wounded
* Industries, farms, buildings and roads were destroyed in Germany.

Another issue: the Treaty of Versailles came into action.
Germany had to BRAT:
take the Blame for causing WW1
Reparations repair what they destroyed ($33 billion dollars of damage)
Army reduce their Army to 100,000 soldiers
Territory lost territory with valuable natural resources

Money was "tight" in Germany from the Great Depression in the United States.
prices went up in goods
food and clothing was not always available

People BLAMED the government for the downfall of Germany.

Hitler's followers called the Nazi Party, said they could fix the problems of Germany.

"The Jews were controlling the banks and the money. It is the Jews fault that Germans are not making good money."

Germans believed in him.
Laws were quickly passed to give him more power.
He had the powers of a dictator.
He opened factories to build weapons.
Nazi's began to rebuild Germany's military.

At the end of WW2...The Allied Powers gained control of the camps, and the majority of Jews (who survived the Holocaust) fled to Israel to start a new life.
**Israel opened its borders to Jews in 1948**
