The rock of Digenis
Carolina Papademetriou
The myth is about the relationship of Digenis and Rigena.
Digenis was in love with Rigena so he asked her into marriage. Rigena though, told him that she would marry him only if he managed to bring her some water from Tala or Maurokolympos (areas of Cyprus).
So Digenis brought her the water (something that was very difficult to accomplish). However Rigena didn’t keep her promise, a fact that angered Digenis, so he threw a giant rock which landed just in front of her house.
According to the myth:
Another myth says: Digenis Akritas in order to save Cyprus from
Saracen Arabs he lifted a huge rock and he threw it into the sea against them.

PygmalionPygmalion was a sculptor who was very focused on his work and he wasn’t interested in women. Aphrodite felt sorry for him so she appeared in his dream as the most beautiful woman. When Pygmalion woke up, he remembered the dream and he made a sculpture of this woman. He fell in love with the woman of his sculpture at the point that he started talking to her and giving her flowers. On the day of the festival of Aphrodite he prayed for the statue to become alive. Aphrodite got sentimental and she made his wish come true . When Pygmalion returned to his house he saw a woman standing instead of the sculpture. He named her Galatia and he asked her into marriage. She replied yes and nine months later their daughter was born. They called her Paphos.
