WHAT IS HOMEOPATHY ?

In it’s simplest definition, homeopathy is based on the premise that ‘like cures like’. Dr. Samuel Hahnemann developed this system of treating disease by administering minute quantities of substances that would, in large doses to a healthy body, produce symptoms similar to those of the disease being treated. For example, an onion (allium cepa) can produce symptoms in a healthy body such as burning eyes and a runny nose. However the homeopathic remedy, Allium Cepa can also cure a body suffering from these symptoms (hay fever, allergies).

Homeopathic remedies come from a variety of sources, including plants e.g. Chamomilla or Coffea, or animals such as snake remedies - Lachesis, or Apis mell if ica (the honey bee) - Lac caninum (dog’s milk). They can come from mineral products such as salts, - Natrum Muriaticum (Sodium Chloride or Rock Salt) - Aurm Metall icum (Gold) - Argentum Metall icum (Si lver) They can come from nosodes which are diseased products for example Tuberculinum, which is made from tubercular t issue, or Syphil inum, which is prepared from syphil it ic t issue. There are also remedies called sarcodes, which are prepared from healthy tissue for example Orhitinum which is made from healthy testicular extract.

WHERE DO REMEDIES COME FROM?

In the United States, homeopathic remedies are regulated by the FDA, through the Homeopathic Pharmacopeia of the United States (HPUS). Homeopathic remedies are prepared by homeopathic pharmaceutical companies throughout the US and the world. These companies are just as well regulated as standard pharmaceutical companies.

Once one or more formal proving 's of a remedy have been conducted, the remedy becomes eligible for inclusion in the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States. Once included in this directory, it is then eligible to be dispensed through homeopathic pharmaceutical companies. It is important that the preparation of the remedy be exact as possible, so that one gets the exact same remedy whether from one company or another.

sss

If Homeopathy is the number one growing medical modality, why is it under attack by: - Large Pharmaceutical- CBC Marketplace - Medical Associations - Other attackers * Homeopathy poses more threat to all of the above compared to Chiropractors, Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine * Homeopathy can in many cases replace conventional drugs such as, antibiotics, NSAID’s, anti- parasitics, steroids and hormone replacement therapy

* Homeopathy in acute cases can work faster than drugs, for example Fever, UTI’s ( urinary tract infections ), Upper Respiratory Infections, Roup, Moulting, Scours, Mastitis, Pink Eye, Transport Stress, Shock, Trauma etc..

Animals treated by Homeopathy often emerge from illness stronger and fitter, since it is the body itself correcting the disease, rather than a synthetic agent.

The substance administered triggers a healing response in the body, enabling its own immunity to engage, without the suppressive, pain-masking attributes or undesirable side effects of conventional drugs Homeopathic remedies are derived from a multitude of sources such as plants, minerals and metals etc.

After the raw material of the remedy has been prepared, it is formed into a tablet or granule by a process of dilution and succession (vigorous shaking in a solution of alcohol and water).

The diluted remedies are described as being potentized, in recognition of the dynamic

Homeopathic remedies are tested on people, not animals. Under supervision, these groups of people take safe doses, repeated over a period of time, until a variety of symptoms emerge. Additional information on the action of the many homeopathic remedies has been gathered for over two hundred years. That information forms clinical experience, and is precisely recorded in two types of homeopathic reference books: The Materia Medica and The Repertory, as well as on computer software programs. This information is then used to prescribe a remedy for a patient with the same symptoms, according to the Law of Similars

HOW DO WE KNOW HOMEOPATHY WORKS?

Page 12: The Role of Homeopathy in Farm Animals

Why does Homeopathy work?

Homeopathy treats the individual, not just the disease and therefore it may resolve everything from behavioural issues, chronic illnesses, acute injury, autoimmune disease, skin conditions, arthritis, and postoperative trauma to palliative care and bereavement. !

Page 13: The Role of Homeopathy in Farm Animals

How are remedies administered?

Remedies can be given a number of ways.

-Pellets can be crushed into powder and sprinkled onto the animal’s tongue

-Pellets can be dissolved in water and sprayed vaginally or in mucus membranes for dairy herds or sprayed on top of feed for poultry or mixed in a water trough to treat numerous animals for example Pink Eye or Coccidiosis, depending on the amount of animals or how easily they are handled.

It has no adverse taste so you may find the animal will lick it off the spoon. It can be made into a liquid form and syringed into their mouth as well.

First Aid, Acute or Constitutional

First Aid is self-explanatory. It’s useful in emergency situations for injuries for example Bone Injuries, Bruising, Cuts and Abrasions, Hematomas. Hemorrhage, Puncture Wounds

!Acutes have a sudden onset Example Bronchitis, Mastitis, Milk Fever Scours, Retained

Placenta, Birthing Difficulties, Abscess etc.. When treating acutes everything is taken into account the way the animal behaves for example with mastitis one animal may want to be left

alone, may want to be far away from the heard, and could be extra thirsty compared to another animal which maybe anxious, not want to leave the barn and refusing to drink. Both

those cases would be treated with different remedies or one animal may have mastitis predominately on the left side where another animal it is mostly on the right, again this would give you a stronger indication to the correct remedy Choosing a remedy in acute cases is based

on the totality of symptoms. Things like Peritonitis, Osteomyelitis, Prolapsed Uterus can be treated but need a Homeopathic Veterinarian.

!!

Constitutional cases are more complex and more in depth. For example Milking difficulties, Laminitis, Chronic Abortions, Arthritis, Liver or Kidney Disease, Emotional Conditions example Aggression, Fear, Maternal Complaints or Reproductive Issues. etc... In this situation you are evaluating the patient’s total health picture, the vital force, the past medical history, the

current status, the patterns of how they got to their current state of being. You are attempting to understand the patient at a very deep level, in order to choose the similimum that will work on the greatest limitations of freedom, on the physical, mental and emotional levels. Methods that are used to choose the remedy are numerous. This is beyond the scope of the farmer and

needs professional Homeopathic assessment and treatment.
