The Rolls Royce Dart EngineThe Dart first flew in the early 1950’s fitted to a Douglas DC3. Its first customer was Vickers and was installed on the Viscount with the Rda3 version. This was a 2 stage turbine engine and was similar to the Rda 6 which replaced it in the 1960’s . The first major redesign was the Rda7 which added another turbine stage making it a 3 stage turbine engine. Later came the Rda10 with a bigger gearbox and then the Rda12 to accommodate a reversing prop. The Rda3 and 6 are virtually extinct now , but there are MANY Rda 7 and 10’s flying today and will be for another 10 to 20 years. The Rda 7 had a fuel efficiency modification introduced in the early 1980’s ( “Mod 1860”) It promises to save up to 15% in fuel burn . A hush kit ( “Mod 1800”) was also introduced to bring the engine into line with Stage 3 noise regulations. The dart ceased production in the Mid 1980’s when the Fokker F27 and HS748-3B also ceased production. One of the keys to its success was the superb airframes that it powered. NOTHING can today replace a Fokker F27 or HS748 for their versatility , performance (particularly rough and short field) and economics on a low utilization profile. The Dart flies today in good numbers in Gulfstream G1’s , Fokker and Fairchild F27’s , Hawker Siddley HS748’s , Nihon YS-11’s , Convair 600’s and a few military aircraft such as the Andover

IAPIAP was established in 1982 mainly supporting the Dart powered operators both in powerplant and airframe. In the 1990’s we operated Fokker F27’s and HS748’s . We still own a significant number of these in our lease portfolio.During this time we have accumulated the largest inventory of Dart engines and parts in the world . As part of this process we have also purchased the assets from a number of Dart engine shops that have ceased supporting the Dart. Most recently H+S and prior to that F.E.A.T , and T.A.A.During our days as an operator we accumulated vast amounts of equipment and technical knowledge. On staff are people with 20 or more years experience in Dart overhaul shops , Airlines , MRO’s and component shops and we want to make this knowledge available to you.IAP are based in Sydney Australia . We are an Australian Civil Aviation Approved organization. Our engineering facility Horizon Airlines , is fully approved on the Dart and various airframes. We also have in house capability to overhaul the TPE331 and PT6 engine types and full refurbishment on most turboprop airframes.KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE that IAP can supply will save you downtime , money and peace of mind . Why struggle and hope for the best - call for a quote and let us take the stress out of your forthcoming event.

Rda 6 , Rda 7 , Rda 10 and Rda 12 supportRR Dart Support

IAP are able to provide the following services at your location

1. H.S.I.Many operators do not realise that the Dart can have a Hot Section Inspection carried out “on the wing” . IAP will arrive with all the necessary parts to accomplish this including Nozzle Guide Vane replacement , Flame tube/ Combustion replacement and if necessary power restoration.

2.Power Restoration

Often the compressor surfaces become contaminated with oil (especially with a leaky prop) and sometimes corrosion. Power can be restored with caerful Walnut blasting . IAP will arrive with all the necessary equipment

3. Engine installation and rigging

Many new operators lack the equipment and skills to accomplish an engine change. IAP can supply all necessary equipment to remove and replace the prop and engine assembly - using “Master instruments” and most importantly rig the engine correctly .

4. Propeller Build up The Dowty prop ships in a dismantled condition. Special tooling and skills are needed to correctly assemble the prop. IAP can accomplish this at your location

5. QEC Build upWhilst not difficult it is time consuming and most Darts are supplied in Basic configuration requiring a QEC build up. Rigging of the engine starts at this point

6. Training

IAP can supply on site training for your engineers , or if you prefer we can simply supply training course material including videos of such things as rigging

7. Event Management

Log book survey , repair and overhaul management , modification, and ALL forms of technical support

Fokker F27 & HS748

IAP Technical Services can assist your airframe needs as well as powerplant We have expertise on staff who can assist you with all your technical queries in regards to the Fokker and Hawker Siddley . The F27 was extensively used by Ansett , Air New Zealand and Trans Australian Airlines within Australasia . The 748 by Horizon , the RAAF ,RNZAF and Mount Cook. The expertise built up during those years is available through IAP for the following tasks :

C and D check Supervision

IAP can provide a working party of Fokker experienced people to visit your location and carry out a C and D check (or P) using your personnel. This will cut your costs , downtime and impart knowledge to your engineering team. We can establish through a log book survey the work scope , create the work-pack and carry out the work as approved by your airworthiness Authorities. IAP will provide all necessary tooling and spares if requested. Airworthiness liaison provided to obtain the necessary approvals

Modification

IAP can provide STC modifications for role change (i.e. cargo) , avionics upgrades , GPS, TCAS and EGPWS installations , Air Conditioning , Mod 1800 and 1860 on the engines and any other customer requirements that may be required.

Full Refurbishment

We can put a working party together to recover stored aircraft , Damaged aircraft and “distressed” aircraft .

There is no task too small or too large . CALL to discuss.

Fokker F27 Dart Airframes

The Dart was fitted to the Fokker and Fairchild F27’s , Hawker Siddley HS748’s , Gulfstream G1 , Nihon YS-11 and Convair 600/640’s

1.Fokker F27The F27 has many versions , all except the -100 being Rda7 Powered. The Rda7 will be a 532-7 , 532-7R , 536-7 or 536-7R. Depending upon the mod state of the engine these can be converted by IAP to whatever mark you require or even dual ratings

2. Fairchild F27The Fairchild was a licence built Fokker and came in two main versions the FH27J or the FH 227 . Mainly powered by the 532-7 manly

3. Howker Sidley HS748 British built competitor to the F27 this sturdy workhorse is still in service with many militaries and some civilian operators. Powered by the 534-2 or 536-2 engine .

4. Gulfstream G1Built as an executive aircraft many are still flying . Powered by the 529-8X engine exciting performance improvements can be made by going to Mod 1860

5. Rda10/12YS-11’s , Convairs and Andovers continue to operate in small numbers 45 or more years since their birth.

YES WE CAN !!There is very little we have not done before on the Fokker and 748 aircraft . We have all the tooling, spares and experience to SOLVE all your issues with the minimum of fuss and it WILL save you money

UpgradesUpgrades , Roll changes , refurbishments - we have done them all !

Amazingly there are still aircraft flying with their original avionics that they were born with in 1964 ! This “steam driven” equipment cannot be supported and is unreliable.

THROW IT AWAY and let us install a modern suite of avionics . Digital two piece radars with multi function screens are a good start. Then add something like fresh VHF’s and a new GPS. It is VERY cost effective

Pneumatics on the Fokker - Chuck away the Dunlop’s !! Call us !

EnginesThis is an interesting and controversial area. Some people swear by the Mod 1860 modification and others avoid it. In our experience there is no downside to having Mod 1860 engines in this day and age as the parts and material costs are far outweighed by the saving in fuel . Think about it. With fuel at all time highs (and they will only continue to go northwards) the cost recovery is shorter and shorter . We have a continual flow of overhauled and part life 1860 engines and it is very cost effective to do at overhaul or shop visit. In 2008 we purchased all of Rolls Royce’s Mod 1860 Impellers - we have over 50 of them We are the people to see !Hush Kitting is necessary in many jurisdictions. This is a simple process . We can sell you a kit or come and do the job for you . It involves removal and replacement of the propeller .It is not approved for the G1 or Rda10 , only the F27 and 748 applicationsSB and AD compliance and mods exist to extend the TBO. Call us if you want to convert from wet to dry burners or visa versa.

Does your cockpit look like this ?

UPGRADES

To stay current the following upgrades are commonly requested

1. RadarDo you still have an RDR1E or equally ancient un-supportable Radar . We have STC’s to resolve this . Install a modern two piece digital colour radar for less than you think. Add a MFD and you can display the EGPWS through it

2. VHF , NAV , DME , ADF etcStill have the stuff the aircraft was born with ? Crazy Crazy !! Call us for solutions. Avionic solutions are a fraction of the cost of keeping this steam driven equipment alive

3.GPS , TCAS , ACAS , EGPWSGPS today is a must. It can be as little as a stand alone or a fully integrated WAAS compliant unit providing a secondary VHF Nav . TCAS , ACAS and EGPWS/ TAWS installs . Don’t Delay - CALL NOW !

4. Cargo ConversionsThis is not simply taking out the seats ! A full Class E interior improves your payload , provides spider net restraint of Containerization , and makes you legal ! CALL NOW

5. Engine upgradeWant more power ? Want to be Stage 3 compliant ? Want to save 15% fuel burn ? CALL NOW

6. Wish listTell us what you want and we can do it - radical , conservative or simply a paint job, CALL NOW

Why Upgrade ?These airframes are bullet proof . There are no “new build” aircraft that can replace the Dart powered aircraft . The only thing that lets them down are aging systems . Replace them and its as good as a new aircraft- at a fraction of the price . No new spares , no new training of engineers and crew , no AOC costs but better reliability and lower cost to operate per hour

Time to Update !
