Saint Patrick Parish is a Christian community of disciples in the Roman Catholic tradition, called by Jesus, united in Eucharistic worship and growing in faith, hope and love. Nourished through the sacraments and strengthened by God’s transforming love, we are empowered to know the gospel message and to bear witness to others. MISSION STATEMENT

THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION: Confessions are heard on Saturday afternoon from 4:30 to 5:15 PM and anytime upon reasonable request. THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: Second & fourth Sundays at 1:00 PM. Expectant parents may contact the parish office to arrange for the baptism seminar class on the third Thursday of every month. The class is held in the Religious Education Building, Room 7 at 7:30 PM. Adults are baptized and confirmed at the Easter Vigil after completing the stages of the Rite of Christian Initiation. RCIA – Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: A process for those who wish to enter the Catholic Faith, or for present Catholic individuals who after being baptized need to receive the sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Confirmation. For more information, please call our Parish Office. THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY: Since Catholic marriage requires a time of preparation, arrangements should begin at least six months before the proposed date of the wedding to allow for the Marriage Preparation Program and Natural Family Planning (NFP). PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK: If you are planning to enter the hospital for surgery, experiencing a prolonged or serious illness, or home-bound, call the parish office to arrange for the sacraments of recon-ciliation, communion and anointing at home. Communal anointing of the sick is celebrated at Mass during the Advent and Lenten seasons. WELCOME TO NEW PARISHIONERS: The Saint Patrick faith community warmly welcomes you! THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD

First Reading: Isaiah 60:1-6 Isaiah rejoices over the light and glory that will shine upon Jerusalem. He describes how the wealth of nations will be brought to Jerusalem, and travelers will arrive bearing gifts and praising God. Second Reading: Ephesians 3:2-3a, 5-6 Paul explains to the Ephesians that the Gentiles are now co-heirs with the Jews. Through Jesus, they became members of the same body. Therefore, they would receive everything God had promised the Jewish converts if they followed Christ's teachings. Gospel: Matthew 2:1-12 Astrologers from the east came looking for the newborn king of the Jews, which greatly disturbed King Herod. Herod wanted to kill Jesus, and asked the astrologers to return and tell him where Jesus was. The astrologers found Jesus and brought him gifts, but received a message in a dream telling them not to return to Herod.

From the desk of Fr. Ginel A star shining in the east beckons three Magi to examine the meaning of its appearance in the sky. Being practitioners of astrology, the presence of this star was mysterious because it was not of known origins. Its extraordinariness is also expressed in its brightness. In St. Matthew’s account of Jesus’ birth, we also find ourselves faced with drama and intrigue. God is calling the nations to partake of His revelation to the Jewish people, uses the very instruments forbidden to His people, in order to draw them from the darkness of ignorance to the light of His truth. The Magi represent the nations of the world, the fulfillment we see promised to the prophets, as in our first reading to the prophet Isaiah that Jerusalem will experience the world coming to it with gifts. It will be the nations’ acknowledgment of the One True God who abides with His people Israel. In his letter to the Ephesians, St. Paul states that they who are gentiles have been given a great blessing in that they are now co-heirs, with the Jews, in the gift of salvation. They would receive everything the Lord promised to the Jewish converts if they would but live the life of Jesus, to embrace his teachings. We should all take a moment to think seriously our response to the gift of faith we have received. Is it a “light” to help us in our daily lives, or do we ignore the wonderful opportunity given us to use the content of our faith to help us in making good or right choices in our lives? Do we help others in their need and thus become, in a sense, a light to them in moments of trial or difficulty? Can we not give good counsel or lead others in a right direction, instead of being one who responds emotionally with the one who is in need of level headedness? We have received the true light of the World, Jesus Christ, may we let his presence in us be reflected in our own lives and thus reveal to the world that we are all His children who are called to live in His light and love, the truth which has been revealed to us through Christ our Lord. ALTAR ROSARY SOCIETY NEWS

The Rosary Altar Society holds meetings every first Saturday, after 9am Mass, following the Rosary. We are looking for new members to enlighten our ministry to the Blessed Virgin Mary. All who may be willing to serve, please contact Debbie Caldwell at 928-7681.

ADULT BIBLE STUDY

Our last meeting of the year was on Dec. 16th. Our gathering was an awesome party. We will resume our study on or about March 3rd, after the coldest part of the winter is over. A very happy Christmas and New Year to all!

Do you know someone interested in entering into full communion with the Roman Catholic Church? Were you or someone you know baptized as a Roman Catholic but did not receive the sacraments of Holy Eucharist or Confirmation? Have you been wishing for a fuller understanding of all that the Catholic Church believes and teaches to be true? to following Your Son, Jesus.

Highland Mills Food Pantry
