SUNDAY COLLECTION REPORT

The weekend of November 14th and November 15th

Total amount in 259 envelopes: $ 8,711 Loose $ 3,362 Parish Pay: $ 2,533 Total offered: $ 14,606

“I do not believe one can settle how much we ought to give. I am afraid the only safe rule is to give more than we can spare. In other words, if our expenditure on comforts, luxuries, amusement, etc., is up to the standard common among those with the same income as our own, we are probably giving away too little. If our giving does not at all pinch or hamper us, I should say it is too small. There ought to be things we should like to do and cannot because our commitment to giving excludes them.” C.S. Lewis Prudent Stewardship … You may want to consider a simpler, more convenient way to support your parish: electronic giving (Parish Pay). Sign up online at ParishPay.com or call 1-866-727-4741. To learn more, please contact our parish bookkeeper Mary Woods, at 908-647-0118, or via email: [email protected]

PASTORS COLUMN

November 21st/November 22nd Page Three

IT IS RIGHT TO GIVE HIM THANKS AND PRAISE We use these words every day at the Preface of the Mass before the Eucharistic Prayer is offered. Indeed, it is God’s right to receive our thanks and praise because God is the provider of every good gift we receive. Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. Jesus is Lord of our lives, the Lord of History, the Lord of Eternity, the Lord of life and death—He is the only King worthy of our full loyalty, thanks and praise. As a nation we will celebrate this week the festival Day of Thanksgiving. Our greatest action of Thanksgiving in prayer as Catholics is the Mass. Please come to Mass on Thanksgiving Day as we pray for our nation—especially now when there is so much to thank God. We ask God never to withdraw His Mercy from our nation. Mass will be offered at 9 AM—you will have oodles of time afterwards for cooking, eating, chatting and football. Give God the gift of your thanks and praise at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass on Thanksgiving Day. A good friend sent this to me recently and it certainly got me thinking of how remarkably blessed we are in this nation. Please take some time to read it and over and reflect. Then come, give God thanks and praise at 9 AM on Thursday or if your are travelling check out where Mass will be offered in the parish local to you. Invite a lapsed Catholic to join you. There is so much to offer God thanks and praise for, yet above every earthly blessing is the awesome gift of Jesus Christ, our Lord and King.

If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, and a roof over your head, you are richer than 75% of the worlds population.

If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish some place, you are among the top 8% of the worlds wealthy.

If you woke up this morning with more health than illness, you are more blessed than the one million who will not survive this week.

If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation,

you are ahead of 500 million people in the world. If you can attend a religious service without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death, you

are more blessed than 3 billion people in the world. If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful,

you are truly blessed because the majority can, but most do not. If you can read this message, you are more blessed than over 2 billion people in the world who

cannot read at all.

Come, ye thankful people, come. Thanksgiving is upon us. The beautiful season of Advent

and the Jubilee Year of Mercy are fast approaching. My prayerful thanks to each and everyone who gives of their time, treasure and talent to make this parish the gift she is to the local community

and to the Kingdom of God.

Peace,

Fr. Richard

A WEBSITE TO STRENGTHEN MARRIAGE

One of our parishioners, Marianne Legato, has launched a website to assist married couples in strengthening their relationships. The site is www.savingmarriages.net and very much worth the visit to find out the myriad of resources available. Marianne certainly has put a lot of work and thought into the website. Even if you do not have the immediate need perhaps there will be something on the site that you will find helpful for others. As the site suggests: savingmarriages.net gathers in one place some of the many resources available for trying to save or improve your marriage. Thank you Marianne.

NEXT SUNDAY MASS READINGS

FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT First Reading: Jeremiah 33: 14-16 The Lord tells of fulfilling the promise he had made to Israel. He will send a replacement for David, someone who "shall do what is right and just in the land," believed by most to mean Jesus. Second Reading: 1 Thessalonians 3:12—4:2 Paul encourages the Thessalonians to be ready for the coming of the Lord. He explains that although they are conducting themselves in a way that would please God, they should always strive to do even better. Gospel: Luke 21:25-28, 34-36 Jesus warns his followers to be prepared for the end of the world. He reminds them not to be preoccupied with

unimportant events, or they will be caught unaware rather than being on watch as they should.

AWAY FROM HOME

We are blessed that John Calabro was chosen to continue his studies for the Priesthood in Rome. John is working and praying hard in his new surroundings. Unlike many college students John will not be home for Thanksgiving or Christmas so perhaps you would like to send him a card. If so the address is: John Calabro, Pontifical North American College, 00120 Vatican City State, Europe. Go ahead, make his day.
