How did the Roman Empire begin?

• It was first founded by twin brothers, Romulus and Remus.

• Then, the brothers fought over who was going to be king.

• Romulus killed Remus and became the first king of Rome.

Where did the Roman Empire begin?

• The Roman Empire began on the Italian peninsula.

• Then, Rome started spreading to the Mediterranean Sea.

• Soon the Empire covered parts of Asia, Europe and Africa.

Who were some important people?• One of the many

important people was Augustus Caesar who was the first emperor of Rome.

• There’s also Diocletian, who split the Empire in half because it was so big.

• Another person was Justinian, who wanted to bring the empire together and created laws to protect the citizens.

• The last emperor was Constantine, who brought the Empire together, made the capital Constantinople, and placed it between Africa and Asia so it can be the center of trade.

What was Roman government like?

• They first had a kingdom that later turned into the republic, and finally the Roman Empire.

• Emperors were the chief leaders.

• Armies also played a role in the government.

What were some of the innovations?

• When in Rome, they created things to keep the people happy.

• They created roads to connect all of Rome.

• The created aqueducts to bring water from a distance.

• They even created cement for the columns.

• Some of the people created art and schools for a better education.

What happened as the Empire split?

• When the Empire split, it became the Eastern and Western Empire.

• The Western Empire was poor so it fell easily.

• The Eastern Empire was then renamed as the Byzantine Empire.

• The Byzantine Empire also started speaking Greek.

Where were some of the people living?• Most people lived

in cities such as Rome.

• Others would live in farming villages and work for the Empire.

• People would much rather live in Constanople since it’s the center of trade.

What was early Roman language like?

• In the beginning, the official language was Latin because the Empire developed near Spain.

• When the Empire split, the Eastern side started speaking Greek.

How did the Empire fall?• The Roman Empire started to fall

because morals and values that kept the Roman people together were not be maintained towards the end of the empire.

• Crimes of violence made the streets of the larger cities unsafe.

• It fell because of the invasions of the barbarians.

• It also fell because there were not enough farmers to grow food.

• The emperors had to give money to the military to keep the peace.
