Apologies by Saturday pm please
Greetings to all,
My thanks to Club Service Director Stephan Castelli for taking notes for me at this
week’s club meeting whilst I was elsewhere undertaking parental duties. Thanks also
to PDG Bob Cooper for being Guest Speaker. To extend his thumbnail presentation I
decided to revisit his “Personality of the Week” profile which, by coincidence,
appeared in the ninth edition of the 2016-2017 Club Bulletin.
At this point in time our thoughts and support are with Gail and Ian Critchley as
Gail is currently in hospital. We wish Gail all the very best. Thoughts also go out to
our Bevan Piper who had a fall last weekend.
The predicted stormy weather for the upcoming weekend has caused the Bertram
Punjabi Club to postpone their Sports and Multicultural Festival until a later date.
Disappointing for them after all their preparations and planning, but no doubt it was
the wisest decision. Hopefully the event can take place in the near future.
If anyone fronts up to club meeting next Monday they will have a very quiet
evening! Queen’s Birthday long weekend, which means no club meeting on Monday
evening due to the public holiday. My family in Victoria are always somewhat
bemused that we enjoy a long weekend the first weekend in June for WA Day, but
still get to celebrate the Queen’s Birthday at a later date.

Wine tour scheduled for Saturday 21 October: we have two vacancies remaining for anyone wishing to attend. $10 per head for bus hire; other costs according to your own purchases!
As per recent email, have changed the luncheon venue from Millbrook Winery to the
Jarrahdale Tavern. See detailed itinerary next page.
“Soup Saver” night scheduled for Monday 23 October.
On Monday 6 November we are planning another restaurant meeting. A suggestion was made by Edd for it to be a BBQ evening at his home; members and partners to bring their
own meat and drink, while Edd and Ann would provide salads and sweets; people to pay $10
per head, with monies going towards the Christmas party.
Christmas party to be held on Sunday 10 December from 9am to 12 noon at the Kwinana Adventure Park. Members are encouraged to bring along their children and grandchildren.
We will be inviting 8-10 disadvantaged families.

Guest Speaker
Bob Cooper
Our very own Bob Cooper acted as Guest Speaker by giving a thumbnail presentation of himself. It
has long been known that Bob has had a very eventful life, and thus any presentation from him would
be most entertaining.
Some highlights covered by Bob about his life included:
Father was in Fremantle on two weeks’ leave; during that time Bob was conceived.
Lived in Kalgoorlie for a while.
In one year he entered sixteen group certificates.
Spent some time in the RAAF.
Worked fishing for crayfish in the “hard old days”
He worked in the air-conditioner industry for a while, then gave it up to join the police force.
Believed that he probably chose to join the police force because he had been bullied in his younger days.
Spent 33 years with the WA Police.
After 33 years he then investigated corruption within the police force as it was a safer occupation.
Moved to Kwinana with his former wife. At that time Kwinana had a bad reputation, which Bob feels is totally unfounded.
Served as Rotary District Governor for the year 2012-2013, with the support of the Rotary Club of Kwinana.
Still very grumpy! (His own words)
Always very active within Rotary!
Recent Activity in Timor
Thanks to PP Max Bird for providing an update of his activity in Timor
