THE ROTATOR JUNE 21, 2011
Editor: Frank Culley
For our new members, PRLS is a must. So
what is PRLS? Potential Rotary Leaders Seminars,
that’s what PRLS is. These seminars are for much
more than Rotary though. What you will learn will
be invaluable for your business as well as your per-
sonal life. A winner from every perspective. An
absolute must.!
The goal of PRLS, begun in 1993, is to pro-
vide a set of training sessions wherein current and
future Rotary leaders could learn to become more
effective in their leadership roles. The basic PRLS
course consists of a one-day event covering five
sessions: "Leadership," "Leading a Meeting,"
"Public Speaking," "Rotary, Your Club and You,"
and "Communications."
This program was specifically developed to
train individuals whose goals include a future lead-
ership position in Rotary. They learn skills that will
make them more effective in that role. The instruc-
tion was carefully designed to improve individual
leadership skills that are broad based and not just
Rotary- specific. Participants have found substan-
tial value in the many practical applications of in-
formation presented throughout the curriculum. The
program's blend of curricular theory and practical
application skills helps prepare students for success
in any leadership role."
This PRLS program offers practical training in pro-
fessional circumstances that can benefit anyone on
both a personal and professional level.
So you ask, what are the dates and where
can I attend?

The Basic PRLS program consists of six hours of classroom lectures in one day split
among five modules:
Basic Leadership Principles
Leading a Meeting
Rotary, Your Club and You!
Communications
Basic Public Speaking
These lectures broadly cover the desired skills our leaders should have to effectively plan, organize, man-
age, promote, present orally, and lead in a Rotary Club or Committee setting.
All classes have a Prerequisite of Basic PRLS completion before enrollment.
Master PRLS 1 and 2 comprise the public speaking series and is presented during two interdependent,
full-day sessions scheduled about four weeks apart. The classes include a rigorous program of instructor
and group evaluated extemporaneous and planned public speaking exercises designed to improve any-
one’s ability to present ideas orally to a group. These sessions are limited to a maximum of 12 students
per instructor.
Master PRLS 1 completion is a prerequisite to MPRLS 2 enrollment.
Master PRLS 3 is a class on group Facilitation Skills and is presented during one full-day session. The
class is designed to acquaint students with the skills and tools necessary to conduct effective goal setting
and problem solving group meetings.
Master PRLS 4 is a class on Situational Leadership and is presented during one full-day session. It
teaches how to judge the skills development of team members, fit the right people into the right jobs, and
define the leadership principles required in order to manage any team effectively.
Master PRLS 5 is a full-day final session on Project Management leading to Master PRLS graduation. It
is a class that requires all the skills learned in Basic PRLS and all Master PRLS classes. Class members
are divided into teams of 4 - 6 that work together to prepare and propose a major Rotary project to the Ro-
tary Club of PRLS.
Master PRLS 1 - 4 completion is a prerequisite to MPRLS 5 enrollment.
PRLS Seminars are special interest courses taught by PRLS Instructors or invited experts at random in-
tervals based on interest or demand and are not part of the regular PRLS or Master PRLS Curriculum.
Check The Strand, District Newsletter or this website for announcements on times and locations for these
seminars.
