SECTION: 0301

What is the SAChE program?

The Safety and chemical engineering education program enriches engineers with the process safety knowledge necessary to safely and efficiently work in plants and laboratories

It is composed of nine independent units

Each unit can be taken individually or all together

The Benefits of SAChE

Certificates are valued in the engineering job industry

Education decreases chances of possible work injury and liability

Requirements to enrolling in the program?

Must be an undergraduate student in chemistry or chemical, Mechanical, and industrial engineering

Must be an AIChE member

What topics are covered?

Chemical reactivity Hazards

Runaway Reactions

Inherently safer design

Nitrogen’s role in safety

Chemical process safety in chemical Process industries

Risk assessment

Calculating the size of relief valves

Computing sources from ruptured vessels or pipelines

Calculating downwind compositions of chemicals

Understanding the flammable and explosive characteristics of chemicals and dusts
