four women would rather readmore to relax, 34 percent of menwould rather have more intimacyon vacation than at home. The men may be on to some-

thing, the survey suggests. Itfound that 45 percent of men feelrelaxed when they return homefrom vacation as opposed to 43percent of women, who feel tiredand need a vacation from theirvacation. Here are a few more facts that

the survey, conducted by PrincessCruises, found:

Go Big or Go HomeThe majority of Americans, aged

35 and older, report that it typi-cally takes them two or more daysto settle into their vacation, per-haps needing extra time to unplugfrom the office. In fact, nearly twoout of three Americans surveyedprefer at least a full week away onvacation, as opposed to a day offhere and there, to completely checkout and feel relaxed.

Celebrity Vacation DateMen and women also seem to be

at odds when asked which femalecelebrity they’d like to relax with—40 percent of women would rather

laugh with comedian EllenDeGeneres, whereas 42 percent ofmen lean toward either girl-next-door Taylor Swift or on-screensiren Scarlett Johansson. Whenasked which male celebrity Ameri-cans would want to vacation along-side, men and women came to-gether and agreed collectively (22percent) that leading hunk HughJackman is their man of choice. When it comes to a musical

companion, Justin Timberlakewins hands down in a showdownwith Rihanna, with 18 percent ofmen and women preferring to gettheir sexy back versus 13 percentwho would rather shine brightlike a diamond. In analyzing generational pref-

erences, Millennials (approxi-mately 18 to 31 years of age) tendto prefer younger celebrity com-panions, with almost one-quarterchoosing Johansson (22 percent)and nearly one-third choosingAshton Kutcher (31 percent),while Baby Boomers (aged 49 to

67) would rather spend a vacationrelaxing with folks closer to theirown age: DeGeneres (25 percent)and Anderson Cooper (22 percent).

No Wake-up Calls, PleaseNothing says relaxation like

burying yourself in white, crisp, clean sheets with no alarm clockset. Millennials agree, with one infour choosing sleep as the activitythey most enjoy doing more of ona relaxing vacation than whenthey are at home. On the otherhand, only 14 percent of Ameri-cans 65 and older are eager tosleep on vacation.Nearly one in four parents pre-

fer sleeping more on vacation thannonparents. In fact, for parents, getting more sleep on vacation ismore of a priority than having sex(23 percent and 20 percent, respectively).“It’s definitely interesting to

see how men and women like torelax while on vacation,” said JanSwartz, Princess Cruises execu-tive vice president. “The goodnews is, Princess Cruises offers awide variety of restful and relax-ing options for any traveler look-ing to unplug and escape.”Princess Cruises annually

helps more than 1.7 million pas-sengers “escape completely”aboard its worldwide fleet of shipsto exotic destinations.

660-882-2665(NAPSA)—While heart disease

continues to be the leading causeof death for men and women in theUnited States, keeping your cho-lesterol in check may keep you outof such statistics. High total cho-lesterol remains one of the top cul-prits in putting Americans at riskfor this disease that kills 600,000men and women every year. Infact, according to a report by theAmerican Heart Association, 44percent of the U.S. adult popula-tion has high total cholesterol.Cholesterol, a waxy, fatlike

substance that’s found in all of thebody’s cells, travels through thebloodstream in small packagescalled lipoproteins. There are twokinds of lipoproteins: low-density(LDL) and high-density (HDL).Over time, LDL (“bad”) cholesterolbuilds up in the arteries, narrow-ing them and preventing bloodfrom getting to your heart. If aclot forms and blocks a narrowedartery, a heart attack can result.HDL (“good”) cholesterol carriesLDL cholesterol away from yourartery walls from other parts ofthe body to the liver, where it isremoved. These combined levelsmake up the total cholesterol. While lifestyle changes like

healthy diet and exercise havelong been the tried-and-true pre-scription for cholesterol manage-ment, there are surprising newapproaches to heart-healthy liv-ing, said Chris Mohr, Ph.D., R.D.,expert in nutrition and exercisephysiology.“There’s a lot of talk about pro-

biotics and digestive health thesedays, but many Americans wouldbe surprised to learn that hearthealth can be a benefit of naturalprobiotics,” said Dr. Mohr.“The first and most important

steps in cholesterol managementare lifestyle changes such as stop-ping smoking, a healthy diet andregular physical activity,” headded. “But there are definitelysome cardiac advantages to cer-tain foods and supplements thatmost Americans wouldn’t neces-sarily associate with them.”Dr. Mohr’s top multifunctional

heart-health tips include:•Probiotics aren’t just for

digestive health: Clinical stud-ies have shown that natural probi-otics—the healthy bacteria in thedigestive tract—can help main-tain healthy cholesterol in adults

by maintaining the amount of cho-lesterol the body produces and bymaintaining the amount absorbedfrom food.•Fiber for a fit ticker: High-

fiber foods don’t just keep you reg-ular, they aid in maintainingheart health. Add fiber-rich foodslike vegetables, fruits and beans, and also replace fiber-free carbo-hydrates (such as white bread, flour tortillas and even manybreakfast cereals) with theirwhole grain alternatives.•Fat can be good: Fat isn’t

always a bad thing, especially ifyou swap out saturated fats withunsaturated fats. Instead of but-ter, use olive or canola oil. Addfoods rich in polyunsaturated fats(think salmon and walnuts) andmonounsaturated fats, like avoca-dos and almonds.Cardioviva™ is the first natural

probiotic that has been clinicallyproven to help maintain healthycholesterol levels in adults. Probi-otics—bacteria that confer ahealth benefit to the host—arebeing studied to determine if theymay have a more significant rolein helping to maintain and im-prove health and wellnessthrough the gut. Emerging scienceis evaluating whether supple-menting the microbiome (gut bac-teria) with probiotics can play arole in health and certain chronicdiseases such as heart disease. These healthy bacteria may helpto maintain healthy cholesterol

levels in two ways: by maintain-ing the amount of cholesterol yourbody produces and by maintainingthe amount absorbed from food.“Cardioviva™ is a natural way

to fill the gap between diet, exer-cise and medication,” said Dr.Mohr. “In addition, healthy peoplewho want to enjoy the digestivebenefits of probiotics and alsowant to maintain healthy levels ofcholesterol may benefit from thisnatural supplement.”The National Cholesterol Edu-

cation Program (NCEP) guide-lines state that all adults age 20or older should have their choles-terol tested once every five years. If you have borderline high orhigh results from your blood cho-lesterol screening, talk to a healthcare professional about how tomanage your numbers. For more information, visit

Time For A Gut Check For Heart-Healthy Living

(NAPSA)—A growing numberof veterans are finding themselveson the road to a new careerthanks to an organization thathas represented the public transitindustry for over 100 years.Workforce development—at-

tracting, developing and retaininga diverse workforce—is thoughtby many to be critical to the con-tinuing success of the publictransportation industry. The American Public Trans-

portation Association (APTA) pro-jects that over the next five years, the industry will face a severeshortage of skilled and seasonedemployees as thousands of work-ers from the baby-boom genera-tion approach retirement.Other significant workforce

challenges include a generallytight labor market, an increase intechnological requirements acrossjob functions and the growingdiversity of the workforce.

Opportunities For VeteransIn recent years, APTA has

encouraged its members to recruitveterans for careers in publictransportation as a way to fulfilltheir workforce needs.Said Flora Castillo, APTA

Chair, “We have great employeeswho ensure our riders are safeand on time every day. We appre-ciate our employees who are vet-erans, as well as the other mem-bers of our diverse employeebase—both technical and non-technical—who bring their uniqueskills to our riders. These veter-ans have many transferable skillsthat fit into public transportationand we welcome them to join ourdynamic and growing industry.”She added that in addition to

bringing a wide range of skills andexperience, veterans often havethe ability to demonstrate exem-plary leadership skills. The U.S. Department of De-

fense has identified the publictransportation industry as offeringan array of career opportunities forveterans, including vehicle opera-

tions, vehicle maintenance, facili-ties, track and road maintenance, safety and security, and clerical, telecommunications, administra-tive and managerial staff.

Hiring Our HeroesIn order to help match the

needs of the industry with theneeds of veterans, the U.S. Cham-ber of Commerce Foundation cre-ated Hiring Our Heroes. This type of hiring fair, in

which APTA has participated, attempts to recruit veterans andtheir spouses for positions acrossall sectors of the public trans-portation industry, including engi-neering, operations, manufactur-ing, technology and others.Said Castillo, “Our industry

provides great opportunities forreturning veterans, from commu-nications officers, to maintenance, and accounting to operations, planning to IT, and of course engi-neering. Their leadership skills, work ethic and training are a per-fect fit for our industry.”

Other Workforce InitiativesAPTA has a number of other

programs designed to enhanceworkforce development, includingan early career program, amidlevel managers magnificationprogram, Leadership APTA forthose with executive leadershipcareer aspirations, and a studentambassador program for under-graduate students. To learn more about these pro-

grams, visit www.apta.com.
