THE HOPE THE CHOICE THE BLESSINGGod made us, so He understands everything about us—including all of our hopes and dreams.

Have you ever hoped for something very special? What was it? What gift was Chris hoping to get for his birthday?

Read Genesis 15:5-6

How many descendants did God promise to Abraham? How many stars do you think there are in the sky? The next time you are outside on a clear night, try counting as many stars as you can. Remember, there are millions and millions more stars than we can even see! That’s exactly what God promised to Abraham!

Read Genesis 18:14

God told Abraham and Sarah that they would have a baby, even though they were very old. Do you think it was easy for them to believe they would have a baby? How do you think they felt when their son, Isaac, was born? Isaac means “laughter”—that’s an unusual name—why was he named Isaac?

When we trust God and do what He asks—even if we don’t understand why—He blesses us!

Read Hebrews 11:1-6

What is faith? Did you know that faith pleases God very much? What does God promise to give those people that have faith? Read Genesis 22:17-18. What blessings and rewards did God promise Abraham because he obeyed?

How did Chris feel when he watched the sick boy playing with his new game? Do you think Chris expected to feel so great after giving his game away?

Many years later, one of the people born into Abraham’s big family was Jesus. Although He was

God’s own dear Son and never did anything wrong, God asked Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. Jesus did what His Father asked—and God brought Him back to life! When we trust Him, He forgives our sins and makes us part of His family forever.

PRAY: Dear God, You know all my hopes and dreams, and I thank You for the good things You have planned for my life. Amen.

PRAY: Dear Jesus, I thank You for dying on the cross for our sins. Help me choose to put You first in my life every day. Amen.

PRAY: Lord, please help me obey You, even when it is something hard to do. Amen.

Sometimes God tests us to see if we will obey Him, even if it means doing something hard. He wants to show us how much He loves us and will provide for us.

How do you think Chris felt after learning that a sick boy was wishing for the same gift he had just received? What choices did Chris have? Do you think God was giving Chris a chance to do something special?

Read Genesis 22:1-2

How did God test Abraham? Why do you think God would ask such a thing?

Read Genesis 22:8-14

What did Abraham say when Isaac asked where the sacrifice was? How did God provide for Abraham and Isaac on the mountain?

Read Philippians 4:19

We can always trust God to provide everything we need. What are some of the things God has provided for you?
