THIRD GRADE HAPPENINGS Updated 4/26/19

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

● AIR/MAP Testing is done! The students worked hard preparing for these tests. ● We launched our latest PBL with a brainstorming session about solving

problems/making improvements at SOI. Students are working in collaborative groups to design an invention that would solve their chosen problem. In the coming weeks we will create a business plan and build a prototype. Ask your child what problem s/he is working on solving and what their idea is for a solution/invention.

● On Friday, the students participated in our “Shark Tank” event. During this time, the students presented their PBL inventions to visitors. The students did a great job explaining why the “investors” should invest in their invention! Ask your child how their “pitch” went.

MATH with Mrs. Wadsworth

M1 and M2 are continuing to work on a variety of different concepts related to fractions. There is a lot of ways we can relate them to real life, telling time, money, cooking, etc. Think about the ways you have been using fractions and didn’t even realize it! M3 completed their concepts related to fractions and have been reviewing multiplication and division. Please continue to practice multiplication and division facts nightly- 4th grade teachers are expecting them to be mastered! :)

DISCOVERY with Mrs. Reed

We’ve been working on economics concepts as we prepare for our next PBL.

LITERACY with Mrs. Rosciszewski/Mrs. Kothera

We’ve been working on creating our own graphic organizers to use for a multi-paragraph written response. We are also reading The Lemonade Crime, which is the sequel to The Lemonade War. We’ll be comparing/contrasting characters and discussing how their traits may have changed from one novel to the next.
