SOCIAL CONSIDERATIONS• More desire for esthetic appliances and are more concerned

about social acceptance– Tayer and burek:

• Found that nearly 74% adult patients indicated that they had initial fears concerning peer reaction to their treatment.

– The patients demand clear aligners, esthetic brackets and lingual appliances • Have hesitation in accepting visibility of fixed appliances mainly for social

reasons.

• Expectations of adult patients are usually high – The limitations of orthodontic treatment must be explained at the

beginning of treatment, in order to arrive at realistic treatment objectives.

Reduced Scope For Growth Modifications

• The main treatment consideration in adults is the limited scope for growth modification and functional appliances.

• Skeletal malocclusions have to be treated by camouflage and orthognathic surgery.

• Camouflage in orthodontics:– implementation of a less intensive treatment plan

option in a patient with a severe problem so as to obtain optimum results within physiologic limits and which may not be addressing the correction of the actually existing problem in the patient.
