DAY 1 DepartureToday we board our flight to Madrid.

DAY 2 Madrid, SpainMadrid, with a population over three million, is one of Europe’s most hospitable, cosmopolitan cities, with wide avenues, attractive parks and a great sense of the joy of life. Upon arrival we will enjoy an afternoon sightseeing tour with a local guide, including stopping for a photograph opportunity at Plaza Cibeles and to do some people watching at the Plaza Mayor, before checking into our centrally located four-star hotel.

DAY 3 MadridWe are joined, this morning, by a local guide for a bird’s-eye view experience, taking in Madrid’s amazing sky-line, on the Teleférico de Madrid (cable car). After which our guided tour continues as we walk along the Gran Vía to Plaza de España. From the Metrópolis building to the monument to Miguel de Cevantes, our Madrilenian guide will provide an abundance of information. This evening we enjoy an included welcome dinner at Sobrino de Botín, the oldest continuously operating restaurant in the world.

DAY 4 Granada, SpainToday we are transferred to the Estación Puerta de Atocha, to board our first train on our journey to Granada. We will travel from Madrid to Antequera, in an AVE high-speed train, covering the near 500 kilometres in a little over two hours. We will continue our journey on a Regional train, which is not as fast, so you can sit back and watch the Andalusian countryside slip by.

DAY 5 GranadaThis morning we will visit the Alhambra Palace, which is a castle, a fortress, a royal palace and also a town. We will enjoy a guided tour, learning of the origin and transformation over the centuries of this fantastic Nasdrid Palace. We will also take our time to smell the roses and visit Generalife, ‘the garden of the architect’. Located adjacent to Alhambra, on the hill Cerro del Sol. These series of gardens are both striking and beautiful. This evening we will enjoy an included meal at a local restaurant.

DAY 6 Córdoba, SpainToday we board our private coach and drive through wind swept roads, past the province of Jaen, to Córdoba. Córdoba was the capital of the Arab kingdom of Al-Andalus, a seat of learning and culturally diverse. On our arrival

we will be joined by a local guide for a tour of the city, including Puente Romano and Plaza del Porto. This evening we will enjoy a performance at the 16th-century Caballerizas Reales de Córdoba by the impressive residents of these stables. After which we will visit the Castle (Alcazar) of the Christian Monarchs gardens for the Córdoba Light of Cultures show.

DAY 7 CórdobaThis morning we will enjoy a guided tour of the Córdoba Mosque Cathedral, so named as it is a mosque inside a cathedral and also due to a dispute between the city and Catholic Church. From the Patio de los Naranjos, to the Mihrab and into the Cathedral, this 10th century monument displays the amalgamation of Islamic and Christian architecture. The afternoon will be free to explore Córdoba. In the evening we will enjoy an included meal at a local restaurant.

DAY 8 Seville, SpainToday we drive through the spectacular Andalusian countryside to Seville the capital of Andalucia. Seville is famous for flamenco dancing, bullfighting and its myriad of cafes and tapas bars. Today we will explore the charming barrio Santa Cruz, the old Jewish quarter of Seville with its narrow streets of whitewashed houses, gaily flowered balconies and hidden squares shaded by flowering orange trees. We will visit Seville’s magnificent 15th century Gothic cathedral and its famous bell tower La Giralda, a symbol of the city. Across the square is the entrance of the impressive Real Alcazar Palace completed after the Christian re-conquest in typical Múdejar-style. With a maze of rooms, exquisitely decorated patios and exotic gardens, it is one of the oldest royal residences in Europe still in use today. We will then transfer to our hotel for the next three nights.

DAY 9 SevilleWe will join our guide at the famous Seville bullring for a tour of this Baroque style ring and museum. The remainder of the day will be free to explore the museums, monuments and churches, of Seville, or enjoy its plentiful plazas. This evening we will soak up the atmosphere by dining at a restaurant that includes a spectacular Flamenco show.

DAY 10 SevilleThe Andalusian landscape is littered with white villages, pueblos blancos, and today we will visit one of the most beautiful, Ronda. Built up high over the Tajo gorge and the Guadalevin River, Ronda is famous for not just its dramatic escarpments and views, but also as the birthplace of modern bullfighting. There will be time to explore the cobbled streets of Old Ronda, enjoy the leafy serenity of Plaza Duquesa de Parcent and gasp at the views from the 18th century Puente Nuevo (New Bridge), which straddles El Tajo gorge.

We will stop along the way to enjoy the stunning beachside cliffs and for lunch in one of the various coastal towns. We then travel to Lisbon, the capital of Portugal and a city steeped in history.

DAY 12 LisbonWe take a sightseeing tour of the city and drive to the Rossi, the main Square in the city; the Chiado with its elegant shops and the Alfama, a neighbourhood still bearing signs of the Moorish presence in the city. We also visit the monument packed neighbourhood of Belem which includes the Belem Tower, the Jerónimos Monastery and the Monument to the Discoveries. Later we visit the Castelo de São Jorge (St. George’s Castle), which sits on a hill overlooking Lisbon with great views over the city and the river Tagus. The evening is free to explore the culinary delights of this fascinating city. Perhaps dine at a restaurant that plays traditional fado music.

DAY 13 Porto, PortugalThis morning we travel to Porto, also known as Oporto in English, situated along the Douro river estuary in Northern Portugal. We are transferred to the ship where we will be welcomed by our Captain and crew. Tonight we enjoy a welcome reception and dinner on board while cruising past the illuminations of Porto.

DAY 14 Pinhão, PortugalWe enjoy a full day sailing the windy turns and twists of the Douro Valley. A UNESCO world heritage site this area is sparsely populated by small quaint villages and typical communities working vineyards and small farms. You may choose to listen to a lecture on the history and wine culture of the region or perhaps join a painting class of local mosaic tiles before we arrive in the village of Pinhão, which is situated on a river bend surrounded by terraced hillsides producing some of the world’s best Port. Tonight your captain will be delighted to host the welcome dinner and cocktail reception.

DAY 15 Vega de Terron, SpainToday we visit the marvelous baroque village of Lamego, where history stands still. You are invited to join your barman for a lesson on how to make cocktails using port wine.

DAY 16 Salamanca, SpainFounded in Roman times, the city of Salamanca is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe, the seat of the Spanish language and still a lively student town. With its grand squares and medieval structures, our walking

tour today will feel more like a step back in time. There will be plenty of free time to explore independently and upon returning to the ship from Salamanca, there will be a BBQ dinner, weather permitting, on the Terrace.

DAY 17 Pocinho, PortugalThis morning we arrive in the picturesque village of Pocinho and embark on an excursion to the Coa Valley Museum. This impressive concrete structure details pre-historic stone carvings made by the early inhabitants of the Douro, which were uncovered during the construction of the nearby dam. We will return to the ship for lunch, where you can enjoy your idyllic surroundings as we sail towards Régua. This evening the dinner will be hosted by a local winery estate.

DAY 18 Régau, PortugalWe wake up this morning in the former roman settlement of Peso da Régua, commonly known as Régau. We will have time to visit the Douro Museum for a look at wine making in the region, during our tour of the town.

DAY 19 Porto, PortugalLocated at the mouth of the Douro River, Porto is a fascinating eclectic mix of modern and ancient architecture. Its most famous export is of course fortified wine, and the hillside across from the city centre features numerous wine caves and tasting boutiques in the area of Vila Nova de Gaia. Sample the local fair in one of these specially adapted wine cellars and learn about the long adapted craft of creating port.

DAY 20 DisembarkationAfter breakfast we farewell new found friends and are later transferred to the airport for our onward or homebound flights.
