He Is Risen! The three most beautiful words in all of scripture! The Church boldly proclaims with great jubilation this Easter Day, “He Is Risen!” The tomb which once held his sacred body is now empty! A new day has begun. I love the ancient icon of the Resurrection as seen in the image above. Every color, every symbol represents something mysti-cal in icons. I look at this with the imagining of the scene of Jesus descending to the netherworld where all of world awaits to be set free from the chains of death. Notice the chains and bones representing death at the bottom of the icon. You can even catch a glimpse of the devil being crushed by the presence of Jesus’ cross beams if you look carefully. The ancient prophets and kings have gone willingly to Christ’s side. The two figures emerging from the tombs are Adam and Eve. Christ is pulling them, “yanking them,” from their tombs to go with him to heaven. Perhaps they feel unworthy of the joys of heaven, or, perhaps they are comfortable where they are at now. Whatever the reason, they are not going willingly, they’d rather stay in the land of the dead. Jesus, however, has a different plan in mind. He has come to free them from the chains of death and is not leaving without them, even if that means “yanking them” from their tombs. We can be like Adam and Eve at times when the offer of new life comes our way. We’d rather stay where we are at...we know the roads...we know what’s expected of us, even if means remaining locked down. Jesus comes for us this Easter Day and once again has something better in mind for us. Let us go with him willingly. New Life is sometimes frightening, but with Christ leading the way, we have nothing to fear. I wish you all a very Happy Easter! - Fr. Joe

Special Appeal from the Pastor: We are making plans for our Annual Summer Festival. This year the dates are July 14, 15 and 16th. We would like to try something new (well actually old) this year. Making our own Potato Pancake Batter! We have an awesome recipe already. We just need some very willing volunteers to make the batter each day. I am going to be honest and tell you that this is not an easy undertaking but with a good group of 8-10 people it is very doable. Please let me know if you would be interested in helping out in this endeavor. In the past, entire families have been involved. It is a great way to be involved. I have heard some people say that they would really like to help out at the Festival but there does not seem to be a need. Well here you go. A very big need! It is not that our Potato Pancakes are not good now. That’s not the case. However, our profit margin from the purchased batter is quite low. We would have to charge a lot more for each pancake to make up the difference. Let’s try to do it ourselves! You help is appreciated. EASTER FLOWER DONATIONS (cont’d from page 7)
