The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred bysection 87(1)(a) of the Sexual Offences Act 2003(1).

Citation, commencement and extent

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Sexual Offences Act 2003 (Prescribed PoliceStations) Regulations 2017 and come into force on 12th May 2017.

(2) These Regulations extend to England and Wales only.

Prescribed police stations

2. The police stations listed in the Schedule to these Regulations are prescribed for the purposesof section 87(1)(a) of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

Revocation

3. The Sexual Offences Act 2003 (Prescribed Police Stations) (No. 2) Regulations 2015(2) arerevoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations, which apply to England and Wales only, revoke and replace the Sexual OffencesAct 2003 (Prescribed Police Stations) (No. 2) Regulations 2015 (S.I. 2015/1523).The Sexual Offences Act 2003 (“the 2003 Act”) (c. 42) imposes notification requirements onoffenders convicted of certain sex offences. These offenders are called “relevant offenders”. The2003 Act requires relevant offenders to notify certain personal information to the police, both at theoutset and periodically thereafter. Section 87(1) of the 2003 Act provides that relevant offenders givesuch notifications by attending at any police station in the relevant offender’s local police area whichis prescribed in regulations. These Regulations prescribe those police stations in England and Wales.For the purposes of section 87 of the 2003 Act, “local police area” is defined in section 88(3) ofthe 2003 Act.
