T he most exciting parts of Pesach for me are the discussions that surround the Haggada.

Over the past few years, I have discovered a number of questions which offer great opportuni-ties for meaningful and even fun family discus-sion. Below I list some of my favorite topics with some helpful hints for answers.

• Are there really 4 questions? It seems to me like there’s only one.

• When does the Haggada finally answer these 4 questions/observations? (Hint: See R. Gamliel). Why doesn't it answer them right away?

• When R. Eliezer, R. Akiva, R. Yehoshua, R. Elazar b. Azaryah etc. are staying up all night, are they discussing the story of the Exodus or something else? (Hint: It's something that’s said twice a day). Why aren't they discussing the story, or why aren't we dis-cussing the story? (Hint: It might be connected to what the Chacham is saying).

• After saying the questions of each of the four sons, the Haggada questions, “One might think from the beginning of the month there is an obligation to discuss the story of the Exodus”. Why would someone think that? (Hint: see Exodus 40:2)

• Abraham was promised at the “Covenant of the Pieces” (Genesis 15:13-14) that his children would certainly be slaves. Why? It doesn't seem fair.

MALI News The Mikveh breakfast is sure to be a lovely event, rescheduled for Sunday, April 25, 2010. We will be celebrating with our honorees, Ann and Larry Cohn, at Woodbury Jewish Center at 9:30 am and look forward to seeing the community join together in their honor. If you haven't already RSVP'd to join us, you are welcome to still join us--please email Diane: [email protected]. Additionally, the mikveh is looking for one or two women who would be willing to help occasionally as a back-up Shomeret. We will be holding a training session and would greatly appreciate the help. This is a tremendous mitzvah for someone to undertake and we thank you in advance for your willingness to help our mikveh.

SPOTLIGHTSPOTLIGHTSPOTLIGHTSPOTLIGHT Dear Friends, I was so pleased to receive the updated YIP directory with the faces of new families who’ve joined our shul. I’d like to welcome all of you and wish you all the best. Mazel Tov once again to the Berns, Ritholtz and Kaufman families on your well deserved honors. The Annual YIP Dinner was a wonderful success! Thank you Suri and all those who helped you put together such lovely and delicious Purim baskets. The sisterhood is, currently, running the Pesach wine sale. The infor-mation has been e-mailed and sent by regular mail. We do hope that you will find it convenient enough to order your wines from us with such easy delivery and excellent pricing. May we all have an inspiring Chag Kosher v’ Samayach surrounded by loving family and friends. Shalom,

YIP Sisterhood Book Club

Looking for New Members The YIP Sisterhood's Book Club would like to remind all of the women in our community that there is a book club that meets monthly for a dynamic discussion on a book that has been chosen during the previous club's meeting. We read popular fiction and non-fiction and are open to any suggestions for future readings. The meetings begin at 8:00 PM and end at approximately 9:30. We are looking for new members to join our group. It is a great opportunity to socialize and get some intellectual stimulation. Our next meeting will take place on April 14th at the home of Louise Mund. This will give everyone plenty of time to get the book and read it. The book we will be discussing is

Half Broken by Janet Walls

Please consider joining us. If you have any questions, please contact Andrea Raphael at 935-0931 or email [email protected]

Take a look. Your eyes make the picture move. To test this, stare at one spot for a couple of seconds and everything will stop moving. Or look

at the black center of each circle and it will stop moving. But move your eyes to the next black center and the previous will move after you

take your eyes away from it… Weird.

Mail addressed to the Rabbi, president, treasurer, or MALI is received and read within a reasonable amount of time. All other mail should be mailed directly to the recipient to in-sure it is read in a timely fashion. For example, all Sisterhood mail must be mailed to the home address of the person in charge of the activity that you desire (Calendar, Mishloach Manot, Wine, Siddurim & Chumashim, etc.). Informa-tion about where to direct your mail is usually included in the flyers. Thank you for your cooperation.

The Shaliach Page 8

• The Haggada seems to imply that Laban was worse than Pharaoh. That just doesn't seem right.

• The backbone of the Haggada is taken from the Mitzvah of Bikkurim (Deuteronomy chapter 26), what makes that Mitzvah different from all other mitz-vahs? (Hint: think of its relationship to the “fifth” cup of wine).

• How does R. Yehuda help us understand the 10 plagues with his signs? (Hint: 3 sections, 3 messages)

• Why are R. Yossi, R. Eliezer, and R. Akiva trying to add more plagues to the Egyp-

tians? Haven't they suffered enough? (Hint: see Exodus 15:26)

• What's the real reason we eat matzah? If the reason is because there wasn't enough time for the bread to rise, why did the Isra-elites eat it at the first seder? (Hint: who says there's only ONE reason?)

• Why are we eating in the middle of Hal-lel? (Hint: maybe our eating is more than just eating).

• Who knows fourteen?!

• Who's REALY the goat in Chad Gadyah?

Chag Sameach and enjoy your Seders!
