The Shed goes Green…. Late April 2018, the shed reduced its carbon footprint with the
successful connection of the 10kw solar panel system. The installa-
tion of 37 panels commenced early 2018 and was not without its
challenges due to the unique roofing material. The roof under the
solar panels needed to be reinforced with a metal stud frame. If
this was not enough, the shed was requested to provide extra-
long bolts due to the roof thickness.
The solar panels will first provide power to the shed with excess
being fed into the grid. This is expected to significantly reduce our
energy costs with the possibly of running a credit. It will take a
number of billing cycles to determine which energy plan best
meets the Shed’s needs.

The sun was shining brightly on the day Bob married June,
they made a lovely couple on that April afternoon.
They settled down and raised three kids, the years rolled swiftly by,
then June began to notice that Bob now had a roving eye.
His secretary always went on each long business trip,
she’d seen them at the airport with his hand upon her hip.
Discreet investigations only added to her gloom,
when receiving confirmation that they always shared a room.
He planned that he would leave her and shack up with sexy Sue;
by now he was besotted and knew just what he would do.
Returning from his latest trip, his cruel plan he’d float –
alas the house was empty, on the table lay a note.
‘Piss off you faithless bastard! Go have your merry dance!
PS, I sold your wine collection and I’m on a trip to France!’
Team BBQ goes to Nelson Grove
The Shed Members were invited to run the BBQ at Lendlease’s opening at Nelson Grove. Carolyn Farbrother email her gratitude … “Dear Terry and the wonderful team of fellas who came out to our village at Nelsons Grove on Saturday 26/5/18. I wanted to say a very big ‘Thank you’ for the excellent job you did at our BBQ and Open Day! I look forward to when we have a village at Jordan Springs and having you out again!”

Q: Is Google male or female?
A: Female, because it doesn't let you finish a sentence before making a suggestion.
Who would have thought grown men could be interested in Doll Houses...
Greg Colton, Michael Brookes, and Michael Manley put the finishing touches to the Doll’s
House which was sold at the Dolls Market.
The Shed was invited to take part in the Dolls Market on the June 17, with the stall been manned
by Tony, Ross and Keith. This has been an annual event at the Penrith Panther’s Dome for the
last 20 years. The event was started by NMS Member Frank Ladner’s wife Gale. The proceeds
after cost are donated to the Leukaemia and Ross Hutchison foundations.

Edgar Pendleton life’s Story…
Some of my early years history and
what the Men’s Shed means to me.
I met my wife Beverley at the 1955 Roy-
al Easter Show and were married in
1959. We had a house built at Ry-
dalmere and lived there for 55 years.
Things did not go too well as Beverley
had 2 miscarriages before our daughter
was born followed by a son a few years
later.
Some years after that Beverley came
down with breast cancer and had a mas-
tectomy. She recovered well and had
tests every year for 5 years getting the
all clear each year.
Parramatta Council then rezoned where
we lived to R4 that is 6 units per block.
We did not want to live like that so we
grabbed the very nice money the devel-
opers were offering and came to Ropes
Crossing.
Soon after we arrived there and our new
house was built, the cancer came back. This was in the bone marrow and there was no cure for
it. The next few months were hell for both my family and me.
Beverley passed away in October 2016. It was a blessing really. Finally she was at peace, but for
me the world got quite dark.
THEN HELP ARRIVED
Hammond Care were looking after me by cooking my evening meals and keeping the house
clean and tidy. Nadia, the head of Hammond Care, came to my house and during our conver-
sation suggested going to the Nepean Men’s Shed. I was still hurting and said no but I would
think about it. My daughter also mentioned the Men’s Shed to me and I decided to come to the
Shed and see what happened there. When I arrived I was warmly greeted and shown around
and there were a lot of friendly people making me feel welcome. Although I am not very mo-
bile, due to a couple of accidents, I will keep doing my wood burning and enjoying the compa-
ny of friends
THANKS ONCE AGAIN FOR HELPING ME TO GET OVER A BAD TIME IN MY LIFE, I
HAVE REALLY APPRECIATED YOUR HELP.

Fairies come to Glenbrook Pre-School
Bob Maynard put the finishing touches to the, “Fairy House”, at Glenbrook Pre-School. I can’t
show you the children's faces but if I could you would see they are very happy. A Big Thanks

What coincidence…..
I am currently 2,500 kms from home, having been away for a number of weeks and presently parked at Mareeba Rodeo grounds. I decided to visit the little boys room when I hear a voice telling someone to hurry
up and I think I know that voice!. Then, I heard the name Zoe. It can only be one person (Chris and his dog), so I start to abuse him telling him to get out of the way as he turns the corner. We both look at one another and both ask, "What are you doing here?" Silly question, we are both exploring this great land mass of Australia but you do not expect to see fel-low members of clubs you belong too so far away from home and in such a small place.

Pyrography in Focus by Steve White
On a recent family trip to Scotland, Eoin Milne
came across a selection of wood burning items on
display in a shop. Several items were priced at £625;
It would be of interest to know if they sold them for
that price!
Wood Burning, also known as Pyrography, is pop-
ular with Shed members. Members have created
many wonderful items which are sold at market
stalls and Pyrography is good for members who are
unable to safely take part in other Shed activities or
projects.
I had never heard of Pyrography until I came to the shed which would not impress my daugh-ter who has a doctorate in fine arts. Clearly she is not a chip off the old block. Ignorance is no excuse leaving me with no choice but to consult the great Oracle Google. A Google search on the word Pyrography found 14,200,000 results! I started with Wikipedia, where I found a para-graph on the history in the URL, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyrography; “The process has been practiced by a number of cultures including the Egyptians and some African tribes since the dawn of recorded history. Pyrographer Robert Boyer hypothesises that the art form dates back to prehistory, when early humans created designs using the charred remains of their fires. It was known in China from the time of the Han dynasty, where it was known as "Fire Needle Embroidery". During the Victorian era, the invention of pyrography machines sparked a widespread interest in the craft, and it was
at this time that the term "pyrography" was coined (previously the name "pokerwork" had been most widely used). In the late 19th centu-ry, a Melbourne architect by the name of Alfred Smart discovered that water-based paint could be applied hot to wood by pumping benzoline fumes through a heated hollow platinum pencil. This improved the pok-erwork process by allowing the addition of tinting and shading that were previously impossible. In the early 20th century, the development of the electric pyrographic hot wire wood etching machine further auto-mated the pokerwork process and Art Nouveau pyrographic gloveboxes and other works were popular in that era. Pyrography is a traditional folk art in many parts of Europe, including Romania, Poland, Hunga-ry and Flanders, as well as Argentina and other areas in South Ameri-ca.”
There are many different tools and techniques that can be em-ployed to burn wood. Here at the shed we use electric Wire-nibs.
If you were to Google “CNC pyrography machine” you find links to wood burning being done under computer control.

“Holmes and Watson are on a camp-ing trip. In the middle of the night Holmes wakes up and gives Dr. Wat-son a nudge. "Watson" he says, "look up in the sky and tell me what you see." "I see millions of stars, Holmes," says Watson. "And what do you conclude from that, Watson?" Watson thinks for a moment. "Well," he says, "astronomically, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astro-logically, I observe that Saturn is in Leo. Horologically, I deduce that the time is approximately a quarter past three. Meteorologically, I suspect that we will have a beautiful day tomor-row. Theologically, I see that God is all-powerful, and we are small and insignificant. Uh, what does it tell you, Holmes?" "Watson, you idiot! Someone has sto-len our tent!”
