The Shepherd’s RestThe Shepherd’s Rest
The Shepherd’s Rest provides the resources necessary for a pastor to take a brief sabbatical of up to four Sundays with the assurance that the church where he serves will have pastoral oversight.
Spiritual burnout of pastors is a genuine area of concern for churches. The Shepherd’s Rest affords an extended time of rest in order that a pastor can be revitalized by the Spirit of God. This innovative ministry provides:

A ministry of the Pastoral Leadership Team of the Louisiana Baptist Convention
An opportunity for an extended time of leave to pas-tors, regardless of church size. This opportunity to rest, study, pray, and refocus his ministry is a privi-lege typically available only in larger churches.Experienced pastoral leadership for the church dur-ing the sabbatical period.A plan that avoids any added financial burden on the church.A new avenue of cooperation between churches, as-sociations, and the Louisiana Baptist Convention.
The Shepherd’s Rest is guided by these simple principles:
The Pastor must have been at his present Church for at least three (3) years and commits to spend the time away wisely to pursue personal revitalization.The Church commits to pray for their pastor and to provide full compensation to their pastor during the interim period.The Pastoral Leadership Team commits to enlist a Sabbatical Pastor who will provide pastoral lead-ership during the pastor’s leave.Remuneration – the Sabbatical pastor commits to serve the church without remuneration.Cooperation – as part of the LBC/Church/Pas-tor partnership, a Cooperative Program / Building Partnerships presentation will be made during the sabbatical ministry.
