Diocesan Directives for Mass during the Flu season

Do Not come to Mass if you have Flu like symptoms.

Do Not bring children to mass that have flu like symptoms or are ill.

Do Not shake hands at the “Sign of Peace”.

Do Not hold hands during the “Our Father”

Do Not touch your face or mouth without first washing your hands.

If you cough or sneeze– use the bent arm area or your sleeve

Wash your hands with hot water and soap, for at least 20 seconds, before and after Mass.

When you can’t wash your hands use a hand sanitizer with at least 62% alcohol.

Get your flu shot, get plenty or rest, eat a balanced diet, drink water and exercise.

Use these guidelines for all events of your daily living and be well.

-God’s people should remember that they are excused from attending Mass if: (a) they are

ill with the flu or have reason to believe that they have flu like symptoms; (b) must stay

home to care for a family member who is ill; or (c) they reasonably fear they will spread a

flu virus.

By following this directive, you are exercising a corporal work of mercy.

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo:

El Domingo de Ramos es una de esas grandes "fiestas" Católicas del año. Es un momento que no es sólo un momento para que recordemos lo que Jesús hizo hace mucho tiempo, no es una recreación o "obra de teatro" que es algún tipo de espectáculo. Más bien, literalmente traemos a este tiempo (nuestro tiempo) la acción de Jesús de tal manera que "entramos" y vivimos aquí y ahora lo que Jesús continúa haciendo entre nosotros como nuestro Salvador: la muerte y el ascenso del Señor se celebra y se vive en nuestra vida diaria.

Este año, sin embargo, no nos "reuniremos" en la iglesia para nuestra celebración conmemoración de la entrada triunfal de Jesús en Jerusalén. La continuación de la pandemia del virus COVID–19 pone una nube pesada sobre nuestras celebraciones. Esta temporada de Cuaresma ha sido diferente a cualquier otra en nuestras vidas. Hemos tenido un largo y difícil "ayuno" de la Misa y de la Santa Eucaristía y de nuestra práctica litúrgica y devocional regular de nuestra fe durante gran parte de esta Cuaresma.

¿Entonces, qué enseña el Domingo de Ramos a medida que enfrentamos la incertidumbre que tenemos ante nosotros? Cuando Jesús entró en Jerusalén el Domingo de Ramos, sabía lo que le esperaba pocos días después. Nosotros también "entramos" con Jesús en este tiempo sagrado llamado Semana Santa y caminamos con Él a través de Su sufrimiento hasta Su muerte en la Cruz. Al igual que los Apóstoles, estamos llenos de incertidumbre sobre lo que nos espera. Los Apóstoles ciertamente estaban asustados y confundidos. Compartimos incluso hoy estas mismas emociones.

Pero recordemos que el miedo, la incertidumbre y la confusión no son toda la historia. Hay RESURRECCIÓN – nueva vida, el triunfo en Cristo sobre las tinieblas y el pecado. No seremos reunidos este Domingo de Ramos o Semana Santa y Pascua como siempre hemos estado en el pasado, pero estaremos reunidos en nuestros hogares y en nuestra familia, celebrando la misma fe y la misma confianza en Jesús. Nuestra fe es fuerte y nuestra unidad en Cristo debe seguir siendo un poderoso testimonio de esa fe.

Sí, las "nubes" de ansiedad y duda nos han llegado sobre nosotros durante estas semanas estresantes. Algunos pueden ser temerosos y frustrados. Pero, nunca debemos dejar que el miedo o la duda nublen nuestra fe u oscurezcan nuestra vista. Mantengamos nuestros ojos y nuestros corazones firmemente fijos en Jesús que nos lleva de las tinieblas a Su propia LUZ maravillosa.

Que el Señor los bendiga y proteja siempre a ustedes y a sus seres queridos esta Semana Santa y siempre. Mons. Ray Dreiling, Pastor

Dear Brothers and Sister in Christ: Palm Sunday is one of those great Catholic “feasts” of the year. It is a moment that is not just a time for us to remember what Jesus did long ago – it’s not a re-enactment or “play” that is some kind of show. Rather, we literally bring to this time (our time) the action of Jesus in such a way that we “enter into” and live here and now what Jesus is continuing to do among us as our Savior – the dying and rising of the Lord is celebrated and lived in our daily lives. This year, however, we will not “gather” in the church for our celebration and remembrance of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. The continuing pandemic of the COVID – 19 virus places a heavy cloud over our celebrations. This Lenten Season has been unlike any other in our lifetimes. We have had a long and difficult “fast” from Mass and the Holy Eucharist and from our regular liturgical and devotional practice of our faith dur-ing much of this Lent. So, what does Palm Sunday teach as we face the uncertainty now before us? As Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, He knew what awaited Him just a few short days later. We, too, now “enter” with Jesus into this sacred time called Holy Week and we walk with Him through His suffering to His death on the Cross. Like the Apostles, we are filled with uncertainty about what lies ahead. The Apostles certainly were afraid and confused. We share even today these same emotions. But let’s remember that fear, uncertainty, and confusion are not the whole story. There is RESURREC-TION – new life, the triumph in Christ over darkness and sin. We will not be gathered together this Palm Sunday or Holy Week and Easter like we always have been in the past, but we will be gathered in our homes and in our families – celebrating the same faith and the same confidence in Jesus. Our faith is strong and our unity in Christ must remain a powerful witness to that faith. Yes, the “clouds” of anxiety and doubt have come over us during these stressful weeks. Some may be fearful and frustrated. But, we must never let fear or doubt cloud our Faith or obscure our sight. Let’s keep our eyes and our hearts firmly fixed on Jesus who leads us out of darkness into His own wonderful LIGHT. May the Lord always bless and protect you and your loved ones this Holy Week and always. Msgr. Ray Dreiling Pastor
