The Sign-Up Dilemma
What’s Wrong With This Picture?
Less Than 1% of DeceasedEnd Up Being a REAL Donor!
Unfortunately – whether organ donor sign-ups are 33% or 50% will make NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE in the outcome…
If Current Registry Donor Sign Ups EVERY ADULT in the USA …
• Total U.S. Population = 316,128,839• Adult Population = 240,257,918• Current Sign Ups = 100,000,000+
(now 41.6% of all U.S. Adults) • 100% Sign Ups = 2.4 Times Current rate• Current Deceased Transplants = 11,161• 100% Sign Up Level = 26,786 Transplants
Current Kidney Wait List = 100,253 and Growing!!!
Mathematically Impossible…RECOVERING KIDNEYS from LESS THAN
1% of people who die each year
is a losing proposition …
100,253 on Kidney Wait List (as of 4/25/2014) » 2013 Wait List Additions – 36,397» 2013 Wait List Removals – 29,647*
*7,422 either died or were too sick for transplant
Reality – Donor Sign Ups Are NOT Getting Converted to Transplants*
1.6% 4.6%
20.2% 73.6%
* Based on 2010 Data
Kidney Transplants are ONLY Meeting about 15% of Our Annual Wait List Needs…

We Have The Support Networks …
Best Network of Support Organizations Anywhere
• The U.S. has the infrastructure and the staff and the capacity to perform all of the transplants needed
• We continue to make medical advances in our procedures and techniques
• We fail, however, in having an adequate supply of organ transplant volunteer donors (both living and deceased)!
The ONLY Measurement That Counts is the Type and Number of Organ Transplants Year-To-Date • Stop focusing on donor registrations and
wait list numbers…aim for the prize!• Focus solely on the number of transplants
being performed (live and deceased) and the other measurements will become secondary and ultimately unimportant.
