This vol-ute is. for the most paq, a continuation of thematerial and methods presented in Perian Basic Course- VolumeV. The central feature of the daily lesson remains to be thestructural dialogue in wiiich a number of grammatical featuresare systematically incorporated in a daily situation.
Since many of the basic structures, patterns, and voca-bulary of the lanolage have already been introduced, it hasbi,,come possible to nresent a more varied selection of vocabu-lary and some essential but more complex sets of phrases, andexp-nessions in the dialogues,.and tore extensive explanationsof grammatical points and usages in the Grammar Analysis sec7tions.
As a guide to the students and in order that they maybenefit by the knowledge of the plan and purpose of each sec-tion of a lesson, we will give a summary of the contents ofthe book and the intended use of each part.
Sach lesson begins with a series of Perception Drillpatterns to be used extensively prior to the introduction ofthe daily dialogue. This will enable the stUdent to assi-milate the new structural patterrs through the use of fami-liar vocabulary.
Each dialogue is followed by a translation in idiomaticEnglish. Nbere exact translation would nut be consideredidiomatic, for the sake of claisity, the idiomatic English'.as been given and the exact English equivalent of the.Persiantext has been put in parentheses.
The Grammar Analysis section contains a summary of thevarious functions and usage of a given item. This, we believe, will give the student an over-all picture of the exact placeof any expression .or item in the whole speech pattern. The
more ambitious student will benefit from this section by leer-ning from it the many different ways in which he can use theverbs, phrases, etc. that he has learned. ,
The Gramrar Drills utilize the new structural patternsas well as new vocabulary d review vocabulary.
The Reading section consists of a narrative containing
the assimilated lexical items. We have tried to use the new
vocabulary in a manner approaching the everyday written forms.
'Homework consists of'aural-oral and written assignmentsfor the student to complete at home.
A list of new vocabulary introduced in the dialogue withmeaning in Englisb completes the daily :_eslon. The words are
marked 7ith diacritical marks for clarity of pronunciation. .
