Welcome to Mrs. Powell’s 4th grade class. This year we welcome a lot of new faces to our class. These new students are: Mor-

To help better understand this, the students made a paper mache globe and wrote a country report on the country of their choice. They also experienced something new and somewhat frightening. As part of their country report, the students had to give an oral presentation. All survived and some are actually looking forward to their next opportunity to give a speech.

This month’s spotlight is on Chelsea Matheny. Mrs. Matheny is new as a teacher to Sloan-Hendrix this year, however she grew up in Imboden and attended school here. Mrs. Matheny’s family includes husband Ty, Dad Rick, sister Marti, and Mom Lisa. Her family influenced her to become a teacher. Mrs. Matheny’s favorite subject is P.E. She enjoys sports, hunting, fishing and taking trips. Mrs. Matheny’s favorite places to visit are Niagra Falls and Miami, Florida. Her favorite thing about Sloan-Hendrix is the friendliness and sincerity shown by the students and teachers. She says “I re-ally feel like I can truly be myself around students and other teachers”.

We have been working hard in all of our other subjects and are currently learning our multiplication facts and how to divide in math.

We are looking forward to the rest of the year and all of the fun and exciting things it will bring.

FOURTH GRADEMrs. Duncan

There are twenty fourth graders in Ms. Bobbi’s class. The boys outnumber the girls eleven to nine.

Our first nine weeks was very busy. Students explored their relative location on earth by creating a paper mache’ globe. Since this project has several steps it took many days to complete. Parents proudly took them home during parent-teacher conferences.

Teacher Spotlight

Students in Ms. Kincade’s third grade class enjoy playing a nutrition game to wrap up their unit of study on nutrition. Pictured from top clockwise are Chasaty Malone,

Kaitlyn Waddell, MaKenzie Rone, Jade Moore, Kierce Due.

In science we’ve dissected flowers and used a microscope to explore the cells of onion skins. We are currently conducting an experi-ment using a red potato and a sweet potato. We wanted to test which potato would form a root system first. So far, the sweet potato is grow-ing roots and sprouting leaves the fastest.

To bring the first nine weeks to a close, students wrote creepy stories. Our lesson was about writing leads that hook our audience and lure them into reading our stories. We also learned how to close our stories by leaving the readers wanting to read more, but knowing the story was finished. In a darkened room with only a flashlight to read by, students told their creepy stories in their creepiest voices on Hal-loween day. This is where school memories are created.

Mrs. Jennifer Grisham’s students were among those dressing up during Red Ribbon Week observed October 22-31. Red Ribbon Week is the nations largest anti-drug program.
