Lord, it is not easy to keep
the vision of Jesus alive in
the world today. The things
we preach may sometimes
seem irrelevant or trivial:
love your enemies, put the
p o o r f i r s t i n y o u r
calculations, practice modesty. Jesus is always
there with us yet we know that we must keep
preaching these things because if that tiny seed
continues to be sown one day it will become the
biggest shrub in the whole world, it will put out
big branches and the birds of all the air will
shelter in its shade. ~ catholicireland.net
As we celebrate Father’s Day today,
I congratulate all fathers. May you
experience joy in your families and
may God grant you fulfillment in
your faith through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Living Faith Retreat for Young Adults: The Sisters of
St. Joseph are pleased to announce Living Faith, a
retreat for young adults, men and women aged 18-39. Taking
place in North Bay, August 24-26, it is organized by Faith
Connections, a ministry of the Toronto Sisters, this retreat has
been an enriching experience for all who have attended in the
past. For further information, please contact Kataryna Ryba,
416-467-2645.
St. Thomas More, was a lawyer, theologian and writer who
found himself called to follow a pious lifestyle. King Henry VIII
liked Moore, knighting him in 1521 and making him Lord
Chancellor in 1529. More prosecuted those accused of heresy,
working to defend the Catholic faith. In 1530 More refused
Henry’s request for an annulment. Soon More was unable to
work for Henry due to his schism with the church. In 1534, More
was arrested when he refused an oath to accept Henry as head of
the church. July 6, 1535, More was beheaded. He was beatified in
1886 and canonized in 1935. He is patron of adopted children,
lawyers, civil servants, politicians and difficult marriages. Catholic.org
Fatherhood is A Divine Call
This weekend we honour the fathers. We thank God
for their lives and pray for them to be strengthened
in the Lord as they support their wives and children in the faith. At
creation, God made man the foundation of the human family. God
“ caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then he
took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib
that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman
and brought her to the man” (Gen. 2:21-22). They became
partners in establishing human family.
As the foundation for each family, the father has a divine
responsibility that he couldn’t take for granted. The spiritual
strength of a family will depend on the priority of the father in that
family with the cooperation of the wife and children. He takes the
lead on the journey of the family in their relationship with God and
with one another.
The father is to create a conducive atmosphere for prayer and
reflection on the scriptures in the family. The Lord God told the
people that "these commandments that I give you today are to be
on your hearts; impress them on your children; talk about them
when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when
you lie down and when you get up" (Deut. 6:6-7). The first
teachers of the faith are the father and mother in each family,
don't leave it alone to the mothers or to the fathers as the case
may be, because it is a joint responsibility. They are to provide for
their homes and journey with the members of the family in the
progress and challenges of life. Fathers are encouraged to spend
quality time in communication with their family. Each family needs
the presence of the father around them.
The day a man takes a woman as a wife he has entered into a
commitment that binds them together as well as the children that
may come into the relationship. Family closeness strengthens the
bond and helps to address mutual concerns before it becomes a
crisis. Fathers are encouraged to use this day as a day of personal
reflection in prayers and the renewal of commitment to
strengthen the bond of unity in their families. As the fathers
continue to do their best, let us celebrate them today and pray for
them. May the Lord bless them with the direction of the Holy Spirit
through Christ our Lord. Amen. Happy Father’s Day !!!
Fr. Augustine
“He explained everything in private, to his disciples.”
As disciples, we are being reminded to take a few moments for prayer, as we listen to the wisdom of the
Holy Spirit, explaining the scriptures to us.
The gospel uses (2) parables, to help us try to grasp, the mystery of “The Kingdom of God”. The scattered seeds grew into a crop to be harvested and the small mustard seed grew into the largest of all shrubs.
By cooperating with God in our daily living, we, can make the kingdom of God, grow, into a visible reality.
As we actively hear the Word of God at mass, we are to allow it to nurture, in the “fertile soil”, of our own hearts.
Like the seeds that grew to “abundance”, the Word of God, will burst forth, from our hearts, into “Good works of Action!”
Just as the small seeds grew into large plants, our “small gestures” of encouragement and hope, can have a “huge influence”, in someone else’s life.
Today is Father’s Day. Happy Father’s Day to all of our fathers.
As the dad of your family, pray to God for the courage to become a “living” parable. With the gift of Faith, that is within you, may you bring the kingdom of God, alive, in your family.
As you live your life, “doing” what God created you to “do” and “being all” God created you to “be”, may God bless you, on this Father’s Day weekend, with gifts of lasting joy and peace.
Deacon John
Congratulations are extended to Chad Murray and
Mallory Heinen who were joined in matrimony on
Saturday, June 9th. May the Lord bless them and guide
them in their love. Please remember them in your
prayers as they enter in this vocation of love and service.
THIS WEEKEND AFTER EACH MASS... SUN SAFETY: Health and Wellness Display
SUN SAFETY: Health and Wellness Display after all Masses on June 16 / June 17th. Whether young or old,
we all need to be aware of being “sun smart” and how to protect our skin. Handouts and activities for all ages will be available regarding sunscreen, UV index, checking your skin with the “ABCDE Rule”, what to do if you experience extreme heat AND what medications make you more sensitive to sun exposure.
All ages are welcome.
St. Joseph was charged by God to care for his only
begotten Son. From his place within the bosom of the
Trinity, he serves God still, shepherding those who call upon his
name, guarding those who have accepted life in Christ and
striving to live it faithfully, and protecting the most vulnerable
among us. Joseph see in all members of Christ’s body the child
he helped raise, the boy he instructed, and the man with whom
he laboured. ~ franciscanmedia.og
Priest Pension Collection: This year’s Priest Pension
Collection will be taken up on Father’s Day weekend,
June 16-17. Please look for a special envelope and
flyer in our bulletin and give as generously as you can. Please
also keep all our priests in your prayers. Your charity is a sign of
the care and affection that we feel for our priests, who retire
after having ministered to our spiritual needs for generations.
Our priests give us a lifetime of service, this Father’s Day, let’s
give back!
