AFUND RAISING PROJECT
bringing12 area Non-Profit
Organizations in 1 location competing for YOUR vote of
support.
Friday, April 5th, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM.An evening of fun at:
The Athens Community Center, 701 E. State St.; Athens, OH 45701• FOOD• MUSIC• SPEAKERS• INFORMATION
THE RULES1. We have a venue that accommodates at least 200 people (Athens Community Center).2. Each non-profit participating organizations sets up a display at the venue and has a speaker
there to talk about their program.4. At the venue, we have live music, and we have free food & beverages (2 musical groups so
far, still need to get food vendors to donate).5. Non-profit participating organizations and Legacy Project students will sell "ballots“ in
advance to the general public and people can bring the ballot with them the night of the event to gain entry (ballots can also be purchased at the door). All un-purchased ballots and collected money + voted ballots must be turned into the OU Student Social Work Association by the night of the event. Checks should be made out to “OU SSWA”
6. Each ballot cost either $5 or $10 and voted that night (or returned earlier already ‘voted’ to whomever sold it).
7. People can buy as many ballots as they like, and vote as many ballots as they want for the any of the non-profit participating organizations.
8. Only one ballot per person is needed for entry to the event. You must have a ballot to enter, but you do not need to be present to cast your ballot. (SSWA members who bring food for the event or to donate can get in without purchasing a ballot).
9. Extra ballots can be purchased and voted (there’s no limit) but votes cannot be split on the ballot.
10. Agency reps get a chance to "stump" for their projects during breaks between music sets.11. 100% of the purchase amount of each ballot voted goes to the non-profit participating
organization selected. The more votes cast, the more money raised. Un-voted ballots purchased will get equally divided by the non-profit participating organizations .
Ethical Dilemmas & Reasoning
1. What are we going to do? (how did we select the project)- The 2nd week of class an email went out soliciting
ideas/proposals/feedback.- Once the plan was in motion changes had to be negotiated.
2. Who will do this? (what needs to be done)- Students volunteered/picked-up tasks/networked with friends.
- “Doodle” website used to sign-up.3. Who’s in, who’s out? (how were organizations chosen)
- Agreed that organization had to be non-profit service oriented.- Students volunteered names/made ”doodle” selection.
- Invitations went out to primary/alternate list of organizations.4. Can we change this? (who decides what to do)
-Blackboard, email, and between class discussions used to identify issues-feedback was mixed, major deviations from the project proposal opposed
by project lead, consensus was never achieved- late entries were the most widely debated topic
