Henry KriegerA native son of New York, Henry Krieger’smusical education began while listening tothe strains of Chopin and Liszt flowingfrom his parents’ phonograph. As timewent by, his tastes moved into a moremodern idiom through exposure to themusic of great R&B artists such as FatsWaller, Ray Charles, Jackie Wilson, and theDrifters. As a young adult he accompaniedhis parents to Broadway musicals, wherethe show-stopping production numbersmade an indelible impression on him. Hisgrade school in Scarborough, equippedwith a theater similar to the original HelenHayes Theatre, reinforced his interest inthe dramatic arts, and he later continuedhis creative and liberal arts education atAmerican University in Washington, D.C.

While still in his 20s, Mr. Krieger begancomposing for Off-Off-Broadway, whichled to his meeting playwright/lyricist TomEyen. Together with director/choreographerMichael Bennett, they created the long-running Broadway hit musical Dreamgirls,which opened to rave reviews at the Imper -ial Theatre on December 20, 1981. Dream -girls won six Tony Awards and Mr. Kriegerwas nominated for his now legendaryscore, for which he won a Grammy Awardfor Best Original Cast Album. Dreamgirlsgenerated new success with new audi-ences as a Dreamworks film directed by BillCondon. The film was nominated for eightAcademy Awards, including three nomina-tions for Mr. Krieger for “Love You I Do,”“Listen,” and “Patience.” He received aGrammy Award for “Love You I Do.”

In December 1983 Mr. Krieger’s musicalThe Tap Dance Kid opened at the Broad -hurst Theatre on Broadway, winning twoTony Awards. His next Broadway musical,Side Show, with book and lyrics by BillRussell, opened at the Richard RodgersTheatre in November 1997. Side Showreceived four Tony nominations, includingBest Score. A reimagining of Side Show,directed by Condon, premiered at La JollaPlayhouse last November and will play theKennedy Center’s Eisenhower Theater inJune 2014.

Erin DavieErin Davie’s Broadway roles include RosaBud in The Mystery of Edwin Drood,Countess Charlotte Malcolm in A LittleNight Music, Young Little Edie in GreyGardens (Theatre World Award forOutstanding Broadway Debut), and NikiHarris in Curtains. Off-Broadway she hasappeared in The Glorious Ones (LincolnCenter Theater) and Applause (Encores!).She has toured with Swing!, The Music ofAndrew Lloyd Webber, and Guys andDolls. Charity Dawson Charity Dawson has returned to New Yorkafter playing the role of Effie White in thenational and international tours of Dream -girls. She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, butlater relocated to Detroit, Michigan, whereshe began performing with her family inchurch. She attended the Detroit School ofthe Arts, where her love for storytelling wassparked. That love brought her to New Yorkin 2003 to further her studies in musical the-ater at the American Musical and DramaticAcademy, and she began performing pro-fessionally immediately after graduating.Ms. Dawson can currently be seen at St.Luke’s Theatre playing disco diva LavoraVerona in the new Off-Broadway musicalDisaster! Joshua HenryJoshua Henry is a dynamic performer whofills the stage with his presence and capti-vating voice. A graduate of the University ofMiami, he made his acting debut in thePaper Mill Playhouse production of God -spell in 2006. His star quickly rose as hejoined the cast of In the Heights onBroadway and won a Drama Desk Award aspart of the Outstanding Ensemble Perform -ance. In 2010 Mr. Henry was nominated fora Tony Award for his portrayal of HaywoodPatterson in The Scottsboro Boys. He hasalso performed on Broadway in AmericanIdiot and in the Tony Award–winning revivalof The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess. Matthew HydzikMatthew Hydzik was most recently seenon stage as Buddy Foster in La JollaPlayhouse’s reimagining of Side Show, andas Nick Hurley in the world premiere tour ofFlashdance—The Musical. His Broad waycredits include Tony in West Side Story andKenickie in Grease. Mr. Hydzik was intro-duced to Henry Krieger’s music 13 yearsago, in a college production of Side Show atPenn State University, leading to other per-formances and a valued friendship.

Rebecca LukerRebecca Luker most recently starred inRodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella asthe Fairy Godmother. Before that shestarred in the world premiere of MauryYeston’s Death Takes a Holiday for theRoundabout Theatre Company. Alice RipleyAlice Ripley made her Broadway debut in1992 in The Who’s Tommy. Since then, shehas appeared in six original Broadwaycasts, earning Tony and Drama Desk nomi-nations for her work in Side Show and win-ning a 2009 Best Actress in a Musical TonyAward for her portrayal of Diana Goodmanin the Pulitzer Prize–winning Next toNormal. In the last year Ms. Ripleyappeared as Margaret White in Carrie, asherself in the final episode of 30 Rock, asCaroline Weldon in the award-winning filmIsn’t It Delicious, as Bev/Kathy in ClybournePark at the Long Wharf Theatre, and asMary Todd Lincoln/Lewis Payne in PaulaVogel’s Civil War Christmas. She justwrapped shooting the indie film Muckland,and this summer she will begin shootingthe feature film SUGAR. She has beenworking with mixed media on giant and minicanvases and recently launched RIPLEY-CANVAS. As Sonja in CyColeman and Ira Gasman’s The Life, Ms.White was awarded the “quadruple crown”of Broadway honors: the Outer CriticsCircle, Drama Desk, Friends of New YorkTheatre, and Tony awards for Best FeaturedActress in a Musical. Her most recentBroadway turn was as Funmilayo AnikulapoKuti in Fela!, for which she received a Tonynomination. Andy EinhornAndy Einhorn (musical director and piano)most recently music directed and conductedthe new Broadway production of Rodgersand Hammerstein’s Cinderella. OtherBroadway credits include the revival of Evita,Brief Encounter, The Light in the Piazza, andSondheim on Sondheim (Grammy nomina-tion). He will serve as musical director andconductor for the world premiere of WoodyAllen’s Bullets over Broadway, which beginspreviews in March. Mr. Einhorn’s tour creditsinclude Sweeney Todd, The Light in thePiazza, Mamma Mia!, and The Lion King. Hehas worked at the Public Theater, Good -speed Opera House, Signature Theatre,Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and Paper MillPlayhouse. He served as principal vocalcoach and pianist for Houston Grand Opera’sAn Evening with Audra McDonald, a double-bill of Poulenc’s La voix humaine andLaChiusa’s Send. Dan WillisDan Willis (reeds) is one of New York City’smost active and versatile woodwind special-ists. His fifth CD, The Satie Project II(Daywood Drive Records), was in the run-ning for two Grammy Awards (Best JazzInstrumental and Best Engineered Album).Mr. Willis has been a regular addition to theNew Jersey Symphony Orchestra, New YorkPops, New York Philharmonic, New York CityBallet Orchestra, and Brooklyn Philharmonic.He has performed in 18 Broadway shows,including the Tony Award–winning KinkyBoots. He has toured worldwide withMichael Brecker’s Quindectet, the BirdlandBig Band, Don Henley, Liza Minnelli, andWynton Marsalis and the Jazz at LincolnCenter Jazz Orchestra, as well as serving asarranger for Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Mr.Willis is a member of the Roland VazquezBand and the Grammy-nominated JohnHollenbeck Large Ensemble, and a frequentcollaborator on the Baby Einstein musiceducation series. He can be heard on count-less jingles, soundtracks, and recordings,including the cast albums for West SideStory, The Book of Mormon, and KinkyBoots. Kenny LavenderBorn and raised in Dallas, Kenny Lavender(trumpet) studied at Indiana University andat the University of North Florida, where hebegan working for artists like Aretha Franklinand the Manhattan Transfer. He has playedwith Clark Terry, Jimmy and Percy Heath,Jon Faddis, Dave Holland, Slide Hampton,Nicholas Payton, and Dave Brubeck.Musical credits include The Music Man,Oklahoma!, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The

Mark VanderpoelMark Vanderpoel (bass) is a native of SanDiego. Mr. Vanderpoel is a for-mer member of the San Diego Symphony,as well as various other chamber groupsfrom the area, in addition to ensemblesbased in the Baja California region ofMexico. His extensive theater creditsinclude Legally Blonde, Cinderella, SeeWhat I Wanna See, Guys and Dolls, the PBSspecial A Broadway Celebration on InPerformance at the White House, and manyothers. Mr. Lyons created new pianoreductions for A Tale of Two Cities (post-Broadway) and a chamber reduction for ADoll’s Life (New Ohio Theatre).
