Began in 2001 as a Major Investment Study (MIS), Schematic, and Environmental Assessment (EA)
Study limits:
– I-35E from I-20 to 8th St. (8.6 miles)
– US 67 from FM 1382 to I-35E (9.4 miles)
Original Scope:
– Total Reconstruction
– Additional General Purpose (GP) lanes capacity
– Reversible High-Occupancy Vehicle lanes (HOV) in center median

Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) obtained June 30, 2006
In 2013 The Southern Gateway project was granted the authority to be developed as a Public-Private Partnership (P3) project by the 83rd Legislature
In 2014, through collaboration with Federal Highway Administration and North Central Texas Council of Governments, and due to regulatory and anticipated funding constraints, the decision was made to deliver the Southern Gateway as three independent projects

Project Refinements based on Stakeholder and Public Input
Since the Summer 2015 Public Meetings – Shifted managed lane access points north to allow access to/from Camp Wisdom Rd.
along I-35E and US 67
– Wider x-street accommodations for pedestrian and bicycle accessibility
– Reconfigured I-35E and Beckley intersection to reduce ROW impacts
– Shifted the managed lane access point along I-35E at Marsalis Ave. to south of Cedar
Creek to reduce ROW impacts
– Additional general purpose lane along I-35E from Marsalis to US 67 and along US 67
from I-35E to FM 1382
– Assessing the feasibility of a deck park or larger bridge connections linking
neighborhoods, City of Dallas facilities (Dallas Zoo), and businesses
– TxDOT CityMAP team to evaluate as part of scenario option development
