MESSAGE FROM

THE PREMIER

I am very pleased to welcome everyone here to the SPARK 2017 Gala at the Four Seasons Hotel in Vancouver — an impressive gathering of many of Canada’s top philanthropists, business and community leaders, heads of academic institutions, Members of Parliament, and Senators.

SPARK is a global philanthropic foundation and it is doing incredibly impressive work to help empower and inspire youth by educating them about philanthropy, and encouraging them to better understand the importance of charity work.

It is great to know that the money raised this year will go to support over 4000 children in orphanages in East Africa, provide food, care and essential services to more than 6500 children worldwide, and support refugee families here in Canada.

I commend SPARK for their leadership in raising awareness about charity work and motivating youth to aspire to be proud, caring and inspiring citizens — all in the name of making our communities and our world better places for all.

Thank you to everyone for supporting this initiative and this important work. Involving youth is indeed signifi cant and key to making a difference, and SPARK is leading the way.

Sincerely,

Christy Clark

Premier

MESSAGEFROM THE PRIME MINISTER

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the SPARK 2017 Gala hosted by the Spark Global Philanthropic Foundation.

Tonight’s gala has been graciously put on to help raise funds to support children in orphanages in East Africa and to provide essential food and care services to thousands of children around the world. In addition, this year’s gala will also begin supporting Syrian refugees fl eeing oppression and war-torn areas.

As Canadians celebrate our 150th anniversary of Confederation, we celebrate that which makes Canada special. Among our strengths, we must recognize that our commitment to helping our neighbours — as so generously displayed here tonight — makes all Canadians better off. Your donations to the Spark Global Philanthropic Foundation will benefi t our must vulnerable, a truly worthy initiative.

Thank you to the organizers of this amazing event and to all of you who are in attendance tonight to support this worthwhile cause.

Please accept my warmest welcome and best wishes for a memorable gala!

Sincerely,

The Rt. Hon. Justin Trudeau

WELCOMEEVENING PROGRAM

6:00pm Reception

7:00pm Welcome Remarks & Dinner

Speaker Series

7:30pm Entertainment – Jason Hewlett “The Promise”

8:00pm Live Auction

9:00pm Video Presentation

9:20pm Graduation & Closing Remarks

The SPARK Global Philanthropic Foundation (SPARK) has been established to promote and teach strategic philanthropic practices that empower youth to understand and navigate charity.

We assemble groups of highly motivated students ranging from ages 13 to 23 who aspire to be future innovators and leaders in charitable organizations and educate them on the important and rewarding aspects of philanthropy and on socially responsible investing worldwide.

Participants complete a Stanford based course on philanthropy, accompanied by a series of seminars delivered by some of the country’s leading philanthropists, including Frank Giustra, Pierre Lassonde, John Volken, Ian Telfer, President Clinton, and more.

Enormously benefi cial to participants are leadership and public speaking seminars, dining etiquette courses, studies on the history of philanthropy, the top philanthropic foundations in the world, and how philanthropy is cultivated across diff erent cultures.

Prior to graduation, students create their very own foundations and philanthropic portfolios. This is the single most important exercise that helps them realize their ongoing purpose. A portion of the proceeds from the gala are deposited into the foundations established by the students. Refl ecting on all that they have learned in the course of the program, the students are then tasked to disseminate the funds. SPARK helps them curate, measure and manage their objectives for value and impact.

The SPARK program marks the beginning of each student’s ability to purposefully and productively contribute to society. First, by making money, and secondly giving it away in a well thought out productive manner. Taking the long view, this program will no doubt change each participant’s very outlook on life.

THE EXPONENTIALPOWER OF SPARK

1INVESTING IN YOUTH

Our students are taught strategic philanthropic practices that empower them to understand and navigate charity — a foundational skill set they will use for the rest of their lives. Investing in youth is investing in our future.

2INVESTING STRATEGICALLY

Funds donated through SPARK are invested in projects that promote education, entrepreneurship, and social technologies in order to develop income-generating activities that lead to independence and self-sustainability. In doing so, we impact generations.

3MULTIPLYING THE VALUE OF YOUR SPARK DONATION

Donations are multiplied by matching donations of SPARK partners.

With regular charitable giving, your money goes directly to the selected charity achieving a one-time return. When you choose to invest in SPARK, the value of your donation is increased exponentially by:

Its strategy is to reorient the agriculture and farming systems currently in use towards methods of food production that are highly productive, sustainable, and drought resistant. Over time, these programs will help to provide mass poverty reduction through education.

Our goal is to educate over 2 million people in permaculture over the next 5 years.
