Division 1: The Perfect Home (Grades 1-3) Topic: Every pet in an animal shelter hopes to find the perfect new home. Illustrate or describe in a story how a wonderful pet owner can provide the perfect home for their new pet. Division 2: Going Home (Grades 4-6) Topic: The day has finally come! A pet gets adopted by a new family. Illustrate or describe in a story what that day must feel like for both the new owner and the pet. Division 3: Why Shelter Pets? (Grades 7-8) Topic: Creatively persuade others to adopt shelter pets. Highlight what makes them so special and be sure to detail why these animals need families to adopt them. Be sure to emphasize the qualities that make shelter animals great pets! Division 4: Doing Our Part (Grades 9-12) Topic: Our community needs to work together in order to help homeless animals. Use your creative skills and media of choice* to show people in our community how we can work together to help shelter pets find new homes. Division 5: Special Education (Levels A., B., C.) A. Primary (Grades 1-4) B. Intermediate (Grades 5-8) C . Secondary (Grades 9-12) Topic: Being a caring and kind owner is the best way to give a new pet the greatest home that he or she has been waiting for. Illustrate or describe in a story three ways a person can responsibly care for a pet. *New and unique entry styles are strongly encouraged. Students can submit traditional entries or alternatives such as videos, poems, interviews, speeches, advertisements, paintings, original collages of photographs they have taken, and dioramas/models. Note: by submitting any photos, images or videos you are giving consent to the SPCA Serving Erie County to utilize your entry in the media.

idea. All agencies and individuals are encouraged to enter!

By Mail: Complete the entry form on the back of this page and mail it in with your contest submission.

In Person: Drop off your submissions with a complete entry form at the SPCA during business hours.

THE JUDY SILVER HUMANE EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR

Award for an Adult Leader This is an award that is given to the individual who exhibits kindness and empathy towards

others and the community. Any adult educator, administrator, school/after-school program,

counselor, youth group, or scout troop leader can be nominated for demonstrating empathy,

kindness, citizenship, respect, or other humane qualities.

THE WINNER OF THIS AWARD WILL RECEIVE A $250 CHECK

AND PERSONALIZED PLAQUE.

Nomination: submit a brief letter of recommendation explaining who you are nominating and why.

AWA R D S & C E L E B R AT I O N S

Ceremony All awards will be presented at a special ceremony on Wednesday, May 8, 2019.

Contest winners, their families, and the submitting school or organization leader will be

notified and will receive a formal invitation to the ceremony.

Contest Awards

Three winners will be chosen from each division for either their poster or story submission. Students

will receive a personalized medal and a cash award of $25 for first place, $15 for second place, and

$10 for third place.

Outstanding Achievement

The Stevens/Barrett Award for Creative Writing and the Anderson/Lowe Award for Artistic Ability

are presented to two students who exhibit exceptional creativity and originality.

Winners of these outstanding achievements receive a $25 cash award and personalized medal.

THE AMBASSADOR OF KINDNESS AWARD

Award for a Young Individual The Ambassador of Kindness Award celebrates any young individual who exhibits

exceptional attitudes of kindness through his/her actions and behaviors.

THE WINNER OF THIS AWARD WILL RECEIVE A $25 CASH AWARD AND MEDAL.
