Stuck in Valdosta?

Valdosta is a small, southern college town. Outside of VSU, many

students have trouble nding things to do when not in class. It is even worse if you happen to be stuck in

Valdosta during Spring Break. Can’t a ord the sunny skies of a Flordia beach or any other

glamourous Spring Break location? Here are some festivities you can do

if you are stuck in Valdosta.

e Grand Bay Wetland Education Center is more than just a place for learning. Take a stroll through na-ture on the 1/2 mile boardwalk that leads to a 54-foot tower that looks out the surrounding forestry. A great place to take a date, explore, and even sh and canoe!

Take a trip down memory lane and rent some movies! Video Ware-house, located in the Perimeter Oaks Shopping Center, is the only place in Valdosta to rent movies that is not a ubiquitous red rectangle. Pop some popcorn, order a pizza, and curl up with some new releases or old favorites!

Jac’s Bowling is the only bowling alley in Valdosta. Since 1983, Jac’s has been serving all of Valdosta’s bowling needs for 32 years. Like Grand Bay and Video Warehouse, Jac’s is a great place for a casual date if you and your signi cant other are staying in town for Spring Break. Jac’s also prides itself on being a family institution. If possible, invite your family for a fun outing. ere is also a bar, pool tables and darts.

Other places to go: 1. Red Door Records 2. Wild Adventures

3. Jumpn Jacks4. Salvage ri 5. Vapor Lounge

6. Ashley Street Station

The ALTERNATIVE ITINERARY

Beach Trip

Casino Hiking

Places to go to have fun without the crowds

Instead of: Panama City Beach Try: Jupiter, FLWhy: Clean water, great shopping centers and they filmed “American Horror Story” here!

Instead of: Las Vegas, NVTry: Atlantic City, NJWhy: It’s near New York. It’s closer and not nearly as crowded!

Instead of: Grand CanyonTry: Little Grand Canyon, Lumpkin, GAWhy: Lumpkin County is great for your inner explorer. The commute is not too bad either. It’s only 2.5 hours away!

Nightlife

Instead of: Miami Try: Savannah, GAWhy: It’s still a college student destination; however, you’ll be less likely to leave crying be-cause you’ve spent all of your money.

Dark ChocolateWe all remember the glorious day when we found out chocolate of the dark variety actually had health benefits. Thankfully, those scientific findings still hold true today. Dark chocolate is not only deliciously delectable but also quite helpful to the body. Among other things, it is high in fiber and antioxidants, and may protect your skin against the sun, enhance blood flow, and improve brain function.

Remember to eat in modera-tion, though, because it still contains mod-erate amounts of sugar (but YOLO, so eat that whole bar if you must).

Coconut WaterThis beverage has been trending among celebs and health-conscious folk for some time now. Weighing in at only 45 to 60 calories per 8 oz serving, coconut water contains natural electrolytes that rehy-drate. Plus, it can help settle the stomach after a hangover (it is Spring Break after all). If you’ve never tried coconut water, the taste may take some getting used to, but after that, you may find it hard going back to the plain Jane H2O.

Essential Road Trip Snacks...that are delicious and nutritious

Dried FruitWhat is there to say about this one? It’s been a road-trip staple for generations: fruit (one of the great kings of nutrition) that is dried, ensuring easy storage and even easier consumption as you blast down the highway belting Taylor Swift. Remember, YOLO.

Nuts, nuts, nutsThis is another oldie but goodie. Nuts are so easy to find (at literally every gas sta-tion you’ll pass) and easy to store (step 1: throw on seat next to you. DONE). They are full of heart-healthy fats and proteins but also calories, so watch how many handfuls you devour.

STOP• Check your car doors before you

walk away from your vehicle.• Don’t drink from any cup that has

left your sight.• Keep a card with your hotel’s

name and address in case you need help getting back.

THINK• Always choose a designated

driver before drinking.• Picking up hitchhikers is • dangerous. • Come with your friends, leave with

your friends.
