THE SPIRE Hiss United Methodist

Church

If you are reading this article in the month of July (or early August), then guess what?--- I'm here.

As of Sunday, July 1, I officially took office as your new pastor here at Hiss UMC, and I look forward to

our future together in this connectional part of God's family of the United Methodist Church.

I would like to shout out a special "Thank You!" to Pastor Tim for all of his kindness and helpfulness in

the transition process that we have been going through in entering new appointments over this Conference

year. I know that he will be missed by many of you, just as the congregational family I have been serving over

the past 8 years have shared how much they are going to miss me.

I am sure that many of you are probably asking yourselves just what kind of pastor I am, and what my

ministry with you might be like.

First of all, I will be myself with you -- sense of humor and all. When God called me into the ministry of

the Church, God did not call me to be a 'Billy Sunday' or a 'Billy Graham' -- God called me to be myself as an or-

dained pastor in God's Church. I will share with you all of that part of me that I have grown into over these past

63 years, along with all of the gifts and graces the Lord has blessed me with in the life and ministry of the

Church.

It is my hope and prayer that each and everyone of you will also feel comfortable with me and be your-

self whenever I am around.

I will also be a pastor to everyone, of every age, station, and walk in life. I will be one you can call on as

your pastor, and hopefully, as a friend. I will be your pastor whether have been a member of Hiss for over 50

years now or even if you have recently walked through its doors. I want you to know that I am one you can call

on, and who will be there for you.

No, I won't be perfect (Like every UM pastor, I am still on my way towards "Perfection'), but I will do all

that I can to share the very best part of myself with you in celebrating the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus

Christ for the making of new disciples for the transformation of our community and for the world in general.

My wife, Debbie ( who is a Local Pastor, Nurse and Director of Christian Education), and I look forward

to our life and ministry together with you and the community you serve. With you and the Lord by our side, we

pray that all of us together will make a difference.

In Christian Love and Service,

Rev. Mark C. Mooney

Pastor Mark and wife, Debbie

Welcome to Hiss! Hiss would like to officially welcome Rev. Mark C. Mooney and his wife, Debbie, to the Parkville Community. We look forward to getting to know you and working with your during your tenure at Hiss Church. Pastor Mooney comes to Hiss , after spending the last 8 years at Otterbein UMC in Martinsburg, WV. He brings lots of experience, having been in the Baltimore Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church since 1984. He has spent time working the youth as an adult worker at ROCK. Pastor Mooney’s wife, comes to Hiss with a wealth of her own experiences. She is a nurse, presently working as an RN at a retirement facility. She has also worked as a Director of Christian Education in several churches. She serves in the Balt. Wash.Conference Council on Youth Ministries, in many capacities, including leading workshops on Youth and Children’s Ministries and as a team member of the Conference Rock retreat. While early in her calling as a local pastor, she has experience in preaching and leading worship services in local churches.

The Mooney’s have two adult sons, Steven (a former Marine) and Chris (a former member of the U.S. Army). They have four grandsons and one granddaughter.

Welcome, Pastor Mark. We are happy to have you here!

*************************************************

To my Hiss Family; I want to thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, love, and support during my extended illness, hospitalizations, and recent surgery. Thanks also for all the cards & gifts. This last surgery and recovery has been extremely challenging, so I greatly appreciate all of your support, as I would have not made it through these last 10 months and counting, without my Hiss family. I know my faith stays strong, due to all of you and yours. Thanks to Pastor Tim for his hospital and house visits, Pastor George for his house visits, and all of those who have come by to keep my spirits up. Blessings & Love from Dawn Macreadie & family ************************************************** FROM VBS 2018: Thank you to all of the participants in all of the VBS programs for the past six years. With God’s help, we were able to spread the word of God to children, youth and even adults that may not normally have heard it. The people of Hiss make it the program it is and it was not an easy decision to resign from such a wonderful program. Just one last request, please return any materials (books/CDs) that you might have been given and were part of the packages purchased by Hiss UMC for VBS. I’d like to put it in the VBS storage room for availability to future leaders. I am happy to announce we have new leaders for VBS 2019. Heather White, Michelle Hurley, and Whitney Kidd as the lead. Thank you ladies for keeping the program going. I’m looking forward to Superhero VBS. Kathy Merrill
