KEY STAGE 3 HISTORY WORKSHOP

Stewart Ross, author and historian

led a Key Stage 3 History workshop

that took place on Friday, 16th

November 2012. Gifted and

Talented students and keen

historians took part and worked

together to discuss the importance

of studying History and how

applicable history is for many

careers and how we can understand

the World today.

Years 7 and 8 explored History Heroes. Stewart Ross used his amazing

ability as an author to make the stories from history exciting and

entertaining. Students defined what a hero was and how different people

can be interpreted in different ways by different people. Year 9 took

advantage of Stewart Ross’s skills as a presenter to be inspired for the

Holocaust Memorial Day assemblies in January. Students worked together

to develop ideas to make the assemblies interesting and relevant.

Once more, behaviour from all was impeccable and everyone had a

wonderful day.

KS3 HISTORY WORKSHOP (CONTINUED)

ENGLAND RUGBY MATCH

A group of 49 staff and students travelled to

Twickenham to watch the might of the England

Rugby team take on Fiji in front of a crowd of eighty

thousand. England comprehensively won and put

on a great show. The students had a fantastic day

and were a credit to the school as always. The day

was topped of superbly when they met former

England captain Lewis Moody. Hopefully the day

will inspire the Year 10 rugby team to success in

their forthcoming District Final!

CROSS COUNTRY SUCCESS

Stanway fielded possibly its strongest cross

country team ever last week as a team of fifty-

two athletes took to Abby Fields to compete in

the District competition. All the schools from

across North East Essex were represented at

the annual event. The team performed superbly

as each and every student ran their best for the

team. There were top three finishes for Oliver

Eves in Year 7 and Jess Riches in Year 9. There

were numerous other fine performances with

both the Years 8 & 9 and Years 10 & 11 boys

winning their respective categories. Stanway was the most successful school overall on the day as all

the teams managed to finish in the top six of their respective competitions. Well done to all who took

part.

CHRISTMAS FAYRE

8DDA will be running a stall at the Christmas Fayre and would be grateful to receive any unwanted CDs.

DVDs, books or toys, (including cuddly toys), which are complete, in working order and in good condition. If

you have anything you would like to donate would you please send them into school. Thank you for your

support.

REMINDER FROM THE P.E.DEPARTMENT

Students need clean trainers to take part in PE in all indoor areas. As the weather continues to deteriorate

and as we are still without the sports hall until January, it is very important that all students have suitable

boots for outdoor use only and do not try and use the same footwear for all PE lessons. Thank you .
