The Partnership

Strathclyde offers its MBA in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in associ-ation with the Higher Colleges of Technology and the Centre of Excellence for Applied Research and Training (HCT-CERT), after an agreement was signed between the two organisa-tions in 2004.

Strathclyde has offered the MBA in Dubai since 1995 and our new agreement with HCT-CERT sees the MBA being offered in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The Higher Colleges of Technol-ogy is one of the largest, most progressive and innovative places of higher learning in the United Arab Emirates, with 11 campuses throughout the country.

How does the partnership work? The HCT-CERT is responsible for promoting the Strathclyde MBA in the UAE, handling enquiries, providing information and receiving applications. To maintain high standards of consistency throughout the world, all admission decisions are made by the University of Strathclyde.

The HCT-CERT provides local administrative services, as well as holding counselling sessions, intensive seminars and examinations. Strathclyde Business School provides core learning materials and sends Strathclyde University faculty members to the UAE to run intensive seminars. All assess-ment is the responsibility of Strathclyde and successful par-ticipants will be awarded a University of Strathclyde Master ofBusiness Administration.

The Strathclyde MBAThe structure and content of the Strathclyde MBA are fully explained in the main MBA brochure. The following sections show how you can undertake the programme in the UAE.

How you can study for the MBAThe Strathclyde MBA in the UAE incorporates a flexible style of delivery – full-time, part-time and open-learning elements in a 180 credit format. Many participants continue to work while studying the course over two years. This makes our programme a viable and valuable alternative both for you and your company since the programme combines the benefits of learning with immediate practical application within your working environment.

Part-time study consists of a variety of learning methods:

Face-to-face teaching by Strathclyde University staff at the HCT-CERTRegular local counselling support at the HCT-CERTHome/private study with specially preparedcore learning materialsAssignments and examinations set, marked or validated by Strathclyde University staff

With so many MBA programmes on the market, your choice of school is crucial. An MBA from the University of Strath-clyde Business School is the best investment you can make in your career as a professional manager. Strathclyde’s international reputation, combined with its high academic and selection standards, is your guarantee that your MBA will retain its value in the years to come.

The Strathclyde MBA in Abu Dhabi and DubaiThe Strathclyde MBA programme has been available out-side the UK since 1988. Over 2000 participants have now graduated, and over 1500 students are currently studying the programme in their own country. This success is due to the unique delivery structure developed with the local partner, incorporating elements of full-time, part-time and open learning study methods. The Strathclyde MBA Pro-gramme has been available in the UAE since 1995.

The programme is also offered in Oman in partnership with The College of Banking and Financial Studies and in Bah-rain with Neovartis. Please see separate brochures.

How does the programme work? The study route to your part-time MBA is flexible with most participants taking between two to two and a half years to complete. Each year is divided into two semesters starting in October and April. Students are provided with a range of text books, course workbooks, core learning materials, and online access to the Strathclyde University library along with physical and online access to the HCT libraries.

In terms of teaching, for each subject students attend a two day intensive seminar delivered by academics from Strathclyde University and scheduled over weekends. These seminars are mainly based around the core learning elements of each subject but also contextualised to cover the business environment specific to the region. Additionally, throughout the programme, students attend a range of workshops and simulations to enhance and develop their mana gerial skills and competencies.

Supporting all of this, participants attend weekly (evening and/or weekend) counselling (tutorial) ses sions delivered by locally appointed counsellors. The intensive seminars, workshops and counselling sessions ensure that all MBA stu-dents have the same learning experience and reach the same standards as participants attending the MBA programme in the UK. Students enrolled on the programme can attend the intensive seminars, workshop and counsellling sessions in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, or any of the other international centres.

How is the course assessed? The course is assessed by a combination of written course-work, in-class presentations and examinations. As far as possible, coursework will be related to your work environment and the examinations are scheduled twice a year prior to the end of each semester. The examinations and assignments are set, marked and validated by the University of Strathclyde academic staff, and are identical to and assessed on the same basis as students undertaking the programme in the UK. Thus the MBA programme offered in the UAE is the same as the full-time mode in the UK in all aspects except delivery.

Facilities at the HCT-CERTThe HCT-CERT offers a wide variety of facilities including Specialist Management Resource Centres and fully-equipped Training Rooms. The HCT-CERT also offers professional development courses and general and specialised English language.
