Warrington has excellent transport links and is well connected to several major UK cities, including Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and London. This has meant I’ve been able to get great work experience at the ITV studios in London!

Warrington is particularly well-placed for students who enjoy a trip to the city, situated half an hour from the cities of Liverpool, Manchester and Chester.

ManchesterManchester is the closest major city to Warrington, so whether you jump on a train, grab a taxi or drive, you’ll be there in no time at all. A popular student haunt is the Trafford Centre, a huge indoor shopping centre complete with several restaurants and leisure activities including a cinema, sea life centre, mini golf and more. The close proximity to Warrington also makes Manchester’s nightlife popular with students.www.visitmanchester.com

LiverpoolAbout 20 miles away, Liverpool is a city of culture, heritage & people. With a wealth of things on offer you may find it difficult to pick what to do first. Liverpool was the birthplace of the Beatles, so will you visit the famous Cavern Club? Go to Aintree? Or explore Concert Square, the heart of Liverpool’s nightlife?www.visitliverpool.com

ChesterThe City of Chester is a vibrant mix of cafes, shops and ancient walls, rows and architectural and archaeological features. The City is home to all-year round arts festivals, events, exhibitions and street entertainment including the famous Chester Races, the Rowing Regatta and the internationally acclaimed Chester Zoo.Chester is easy accessible via our free campus shuttlebus, which runs Monday-Friday. To book onto the bus or find out more information, visit reception. If you’d like to visit on a weekend, it’s only a short train ride away.www.visitchester.com

BlackpoolApproximately an hour’s drive away, Blackpool has plenty of entertainment on offer and is the perfect destination for a day trip. Will you spend your time at the Pleasure Beach, climb Blackpool Tower, visit Madame Tussauds, explore Blackpool Tower Dungeon or take a dip at Sandcastle Waterpark? www.visitblackpool.com

When I’m in Manchester my favourite things to do are to go shopping at the Trafford centre, visit some of the amazing cocktail bars, go to the northern quarter and if it’s sunny, relax at The Shack on Salford quays. But there’s just so much to do in Manchester you really need to explore it for yourself! Chloe Ainscough

Manchester and Liverpool are good but you don’t get a seafront like Blackpool so close to you when the suns outOmar Rujbally

Always buy a pizza with pre drinks for the next day to avoid the need to get a takeaway.

Don’t spend every day of first year in Bar Twenty10

Check the sales aisle and racks first! Try places like B&M Bargains and Home Bargains, the food in there is much cheaper

Getting to know… money saving tips

Try going to the market for fresh fruit, veg and meat, it’s normally way cheaper than the supermarkets

If you’re going to be using the train a lot, get a rail card

Stock up the freezer

Find out how much student loan you will receive and then work out how many expenses you have (rent bills, phone bills etc.) and put that money in an online saving account- the money left over is your living money for food socializing etc. Divide by how many weeks you’ll be at uni & each week take that money out in cash - don’t use your bank card for purchases unless absolutely necessary!!

Most food and drink is cheaper at the SU shop

Go to a supermarket or shop before going to the cinema and buy your popcorn and sweets from there
