Uncover yourself from the mound of Easter eggs youve submerged yourself in, lick your chocolate smothered chops and take a peek at the pages of this months issue of The Student Magazine.

And what a sugary fest we have you this month! To quell your celebrity craving, our interview with disc spinning maestro, Radio 1 DJ Danny Howard should be just the fix, or how about trilby wielding hottie, Bruno Mars? And for the raunchy amongst you, we chatted for a few minutes with the stunning burlesque princess, Amber Topaz.

Last month we presented student haven, Ecclesall Road, and this issue we cast our probing noses into the eclectic world of the London Road area. Packed with goodies ranging from Oriental tastes at Noodle Inn, to the tapas treats at La Mama, this area is somewhere you need to investigate with the help of our Wild West map.

Of course, weve also sprinkled hundreds of thousands of our regular features in to make up this delicious issue, and dont forget to flip for our unique Chinese version.

  • PiccolosAre you trying to nd a quiet, romantic setting to take a date to, or maybe just a good quality restaurant for graduation day? In the city centre thats no easy feat as given that many of the restaurants are chains, you are unlikely to nd a place with an authentic and traditional atmosphere. Well, we have the answer: Piccolos.

Piccolos is a family run, Italian restaurant, which boasts a traditional and inviting atmosphere to make anyones night just that little bit more special. Over the past 15 years, since the opening way back in 1998, the restaurant has gained a reputation as one of the best independent eateries in the Steel City and is still going strong in this vein.

e two oor restaurant is decorated as would be a bistro in Italy, and once inside the door you feel as though youre immediately transported there. ink an intimate table for two engulfed by a luscious white tablecloth and lit by candle light.e extensive menu includes Italian favourites such as Spaghetti Carbonara, Lasagne and homemade Garlic Bread. Each meal is prepared on site from scratch from the nest ingredients, which explains why it tastes so wonderfully fresh. A team of specially trained chefs use only the most traditional Italian recipes, meaning that you can experience the real taste of Italy from the comfort of Sheeld. eir specialities include their divine sh, lamb, chicken, steaks and risotto dishes, plus their Sicilian Panacotta is something their loyal customers come back for time and time again.

We recently took a trip to the

restaurant to see what all the fuss is about and, we have to say, we were not disappointed! e relaxed and enticing atmosphere meant that we were all immediately at ease inside; shortly aided by a large glass of the nest red wine!

e delectable food was all that was promised; delicious and moreish. e homemade garlic bread was being baked as we walked in the door and the scent lled the room, making us salivate. e lasagne was like nothing we had ever tasted before; the concoction of avours was simply gorgeous.

is would make the perfect place for the very special occasion that is your post-graduation meal and, rather luckily, students get a 10 per cent discount with an NUS card. Book now for graduation, as reservations for Piccolos are going to be coming in thick and fast!

  • Every month, Adam ONeill brings us allthe celeb gossip from 105 Capital FM HQ.Hes on Capital across Yorkshire everyaernoon between 4-7pm!

Hawaiian-born heartthrob, Bruno Mars, islling the radio at the moment with hisundeniably catchy, reggae fusion-R&Btunes, having recently released his secondalbum, Unorthodox Jukebox. e trilbyaunting, cheeky chap is bringing eMoonshine Jungle World Tour to Sheeldon the 12th October 2013 and Adamcaught up with him.

  • Bruno, you are a bit of a heartthrob with our listeners, if you were in a lonely hearts column how would you describe yourself?

(Laughs) Umm - Im brave, courageous and I love to work out ALL the time!

The fans have been asking for you to take your shirt off but you keep talking about having two extra nipples, is that true?

Nah, I made it up, all the little girls on Twitterkept asking for photos of me with my shirt o. I was like noooo you dont want to see that, so I told them I had extra nipples!

I need you to prove you were lying; come on, Bruno!

You headlined at the Capital Jingle Bell Ball last year - what was it like for you when you performed at the 02 Arena?

I loved it! I love the crowd out here and they give me something dierent. e audience is dierent everywhere you go. You come to the UK and the audience is dierent to the audience in America. I like that all the audiences are dierent. I

love the crowd in the UK, you guys get down! You are wild and I can relate to that.

One of my favourites from you is Grenade - really amazing. The track is timeless, its beautiful. What is your memory of making it?

e best moment of my whole career is when I sang that song for the rst time in front of an audience and nobody knew it. I was in New York doing a showcase and I sang it. We were struggling a bit with the band in rehearsal, we just couldnt get it right and then I said, Maybe Ill just do it with my guitar. I was so nervous and then when I sang it, the audience all took a breath, it was a special moment.

Recently you performed at The Grammys; the performance was a tribute to Bob Marley and you also shared the stage with Sting. I can definitely hear The Police in your music - would you say that was true, that they were an influence?

Yeah denitely, growing up I was a big fan of Bob Marley and e Police. It was amazing to be on the stage together showing how Bob Marleys music is still

    showing in todays music.

Justin Timberlake performed - he is back! Are you excited?

I am very happy he is back. I remember growing up and watching him do his thing the rst time round. Hes got some massive tunes and its really cool to see him back.

JT is going on tour with Jay Z this summer - right now, if you could share the stage with anybody, who would that be?

Right now in my career I would say the Spice Girls.

    Woah, ok? The Spice Girls?

Yeah. Well, rstly Id sing Wannabe, as thats my shower song, and then they could sing Grenade, and then Id sing, 2 Become 1.

AMAZING! Looking forward to a little Spice Girls tribute on the tour in Sheffield! What else can we expect from the show?

is tour is going to be one for the books and thats all Im saying!

  • Diversity is the London Road and Abbeydale Road areas middle name, and with a range of restaurants and shops from across the globe you could be forgiven for mistaking this popular Sheeld student hood for a

worldwide tour in just a few steps. is is the place to go if you fancy a taste of culture without the expense of having to actually travel and, lets face it, the price of a student single has to be a hundred times cheaper

than a ight across the planet.

e area is always a favourite for students moving out of university accommodation and into one of the most interesting and varied places to live in the city. If youre not too sure of the best places around the area though, never fear - e Student Magazine is here to show you the way, and this time were bringing a little

bit of the Wild West to our pages!

    Page 14 www.thestudentmag.co.uk

  • World CuisineIf you like spice, youve come

to the right place. e area has a great selection of food with a

kick for you to try (if youre brave enough). For the oriental tastes buds try the likes of Noodle Inn or New Hong Kong Wok. Fancy

something a little Hispanic? Why not try the jalapeo lled tempta-

tions that Amigos have to oer, or the tapas treats of La Mama?

If, on the other hand, youre afraid of a little chilli and crave something else, there is always

the English fall back of a nice bag of sh and chips!

Get Antiquee area isnt all about the nosh, however. Everything you could

ever dream about lies on London Road and Abbeydale Road, from corner shops to hairdressers to

antique shops. Sheelds antique quarter lies on Abbeydale Road, packed with kitsch bit and pieces to have a dabble in and decorate your dull student accommoda-

tion. Pop into the Aladdins Cove that is the Vault.

Missing home?London Road is an absolute life-saver for Chinese students who

are missing their home comforts. With the large Chinese student community within Sheeld, its

really no wonder that there seem to be so many shops popping up selling produce and ingredients from the Asian nation. London Road is a prime example of this, oering students who miss the taste of home exactly what they need to make it in Sheeld, like Cake R Us and Noodle Inn Hot

    Pot.

Running parallel to Bramall Lane, London Road runs straight through Sharrow, Higheld, Loweld, and Heeley. Alongside a vari-ety of pubs, restaurants and shops the road plays host to a library (fancy getting away from the hustle of the students? e library could be your answer) and a former cinema. e road was originally ended at a Toll Bridge which, at the time, was also the boundary between Yorkshire and Derbyshire! Abbeydale Road carries on the road further up towards the ush area of Dore.

  • Dont let the depressingly chilly Sheeld weather get you down weve found a little taste of Latin sun hidden away on Abbeydale Road.

With an outside terrace, azure frontage and rustic wooden interior, La Mama is instantly an exotic wonder from the outset. ey serve an extensive tapas menu, and judging by their Eat Sheeld awards for 2011 and 2012, their culinary treats havent gone unnoticed!

e selection on the menu is between a range of hot and cold individual tapas dishes, all priced around 3-6, accompaniments and salsas, or the set platters at 14.95 each, making the choice for you and available in Meat, Fish or Vegetarian. La Mama rec-ommends that you choose three to four tapas dishes per person, so aer much deliberation, our choice was made and the food arrived swily.

We went for the Empanadas de Queso (two lightly fried, Chilean cheese pastry parcels), Langosti-nos al Ajillo (grilled king prawns cooked in garlic and fresh parsley and drizzled with extra virgin oil), Calamares Fritos (lightly fried, crispy fresh squid served with Ali-Oli dip), Costillas de Cerdo (sizzling barbeque spare ribs), Pan Frito con Chorizo

(chorizo pan fried with garlic and homemade bread), Seabass a la Paila (llet of seabass cooked in a traditional clay pot with garlic, onions and strips of fresh mixed peppers in a rich white wine and fresh tomato sauce), Anticuchos de Cordero (lamb marinated in cumin lemon and fresh thyme, chargrilled on a skewer) and Patatas con Romero (new potatoes).

Each dish was avoured to per-fection, packed with Latino spice and oozing with deliciousness. A favourite was the Anticuchos de Cordero the lamb was tender and juicy, served on a grilled kebab with peppers. e Seabass was light and so, aking o the bone, while the Pan Frito con Chorizo was a unique dish, tasting lush.

At La Mama its Happy Hour on Monday all evening, with four tapas dishes for 12, 2 for 1 on Peroni and Brahma, 2 for 1 on small glasses of house wine and buy 1 get 1 half price on cocktails. e tapas only deals are also available Tuesday-ursday, 6pm-7.30pm, and live music tinkles alongside your tapas at least once a month the next is 13th April. Local artists work can be displayed inside the restaurant and theres no charge to hire the venue out for private parties Sunday-ursday.

Appearing on Radio 1 is something of a dream for many aspiring DJs, and the buzzing Danny Howard is definitely living the dream. Having caught the stations and the nations attention after winning Radio 1s search for a superstar DJ, with skills honed in his hometown of Blackpool, Danny secured a range of DJ treats from reporting on Creamfields to hosting a 12 hour slot as part of the Ibiza takeover.

Now the host of Dance Anthems every Saturday from 4-7pm, dance aficionado Danny is hitting the clubs on the Ministry of Sound Clubbers Guide 2013 Tour, soaring into Sheffields Plug on Saturday 13th April. In the run up to his appearance on the decks, we grabbed a few moments with him for a chat.

    Page 32 www.thestudentmag.co.uk

  • STU: Who are your influences when youre behind the decks? Danny: Im inuenced by a couple of DJs; the main one that I always say is Erick Morillo. Hes a very big House DJ, hes huge all over the world, and I saw him play at a place called e Syndicate in my hometown of Blackpool. I was absolutely blown away when I saw him play - his energy behind the decks, the way he interacts with the crowd, the way he just controls the crowd simply by music selection is just incredible. e important thing for a DJ is the music selection, and he just did it in a way that he had every single person in that room in the palm of his hand. I saw him play again in Pacha in Ibiza and it was the same, and I always wanted to emulate that. He was the one really that inuenced me, him and also Eddie Halliwell. Hes a guy who has amazing energy and hes just exciting to watch, and I think thats important when youre DJing now these days, youve got to be able to look like youre enjoying it as well as just playing the tunes, so hes someone that I always look up to.

STU: 2012 was a huge year for you! What was the highlight? Danny: The ultimate highlight of 2012 was getting the actual Radio 1 show, because Id say it was a dream come true. Its something that youd never imagine to actually happen, you can dream about it and wish for something like that to happen but you dont ever think it will, so when it did it was a real pinch me moment to actually get that slot. Its given me incredible exposure on a national scale, which Im so grateful for, and I think the highlight is every single week, because Ive sort of become a part of peoples Saturday night plans, which is crazy for me to say. And that is the biggest thing for me, people texting in saying that, I wasnt going to go out tonight but I just listened to your show and now Im going out - its just amazing for me to have sort of inuence on people. I suppose that its a good thing because you can have more and more people out listening to new music, enjoying time in the clubs, so I think thats very important; Im just happy to be a part of that.

STU: Tell us about your Ministry of Sound Club Tour, which is stopping off at Plug in Sheffield on April 13th, what can we expect from that?Danny: Its a long standing brand, Ministry of Sound has been going for years and years - I remember seeing the adverts on TV for the compilations, when I was nine or ten years old. I just mixed their latest series of that and its a massive honour for me, and a privilege, and again another moment where I thought, How has this actually happened?, but it has, and o the back of the album Im doing a load of club gigs up and down the UK as part of the tour. Sheeld and Plug is one Im looking forward to out of all of them , because I played there as part of the Freshers Week line up and the crowd and the people that were there really, really went for it on the danceoor, so I know its going to be a good night and a great atmosphere, so I really cant wait for that.

STU: Your rework of Examples Perfect Replacement is receiving a lot of buzz - how did you two get involved? Danny: Id been playing a lot of his tracks on the radio and we spoke to each other on Twitter a bit, and it was actually at Creamelds last year - I was broadcasting my show live, backstage. Hed just come o stage and was sort of hanging around on the show, we had a little interview on the show, we just got chatting and we put forward the idea of me re-mixing one of his next tracks. It was quite a cheeky thing to do, but I suppose if you dont ask you dont get, and he was accustomed to the idea and we talked some more and it just all happened aer that really. It started when I spoke to him at Creamelds last year, so it nally happened in February, when the track came out.

STU: What dance tracks are you backing for 2013? Danny: Not specically any tracks, because its the time of the year when youre getting new tracks sent and then its not til summer really that the ones that are receiving the most buzz come to the surface. But in terms of artists to watch out for, its denitely the young producers of dance music that are just coming through. We saw a bit of them last year in 2012 and I believe this will be a big year for the likes of Madeon, Porter Robinson, Alesso those sort of guys who released big tracks last year. I think this year theyll take it to the next level and we should really look out for them, because I think theyve got some big stu in the pipeline.

STU: As a Radio One DJ, you must have met some pretty big names. Whos the most famous person youve met? Danny: Being on Radio 1, and especially being involved in their events, pushes you forward in that position that you get to meet a lot of people that are putting music out in the charts; a lot of famous faces you would never think you would meet. I dont know really, Im trying to think whos the one In terms of dance music, I would say, the likes of Calvin Harris, weve had him on the show, hes been great to talk to. David Guetta, one of the biggest DJs in the world, Ive met him, Tiesto I literally sound like Im name-dropping, but all these people you get to meet who youve listened to for years and been inuenced by their music, to get to meet them in person is a huge honour.

STU: What can we expect you to deliver for the rest of 2013?Danny: 2013 is a big year for me in terms of the gigs that Im going to be playing this summer, in terms of the festivals and the shows in Ibiza that Im going to be doing. I dont think theyve been announced yet, apart from Global Gathering, so I cant say too much! Global Gathering is one of the ones Im looking forward to because it was one if the rst, well, the rst ever festival I went to, so to come back and play that festival is quite a special thing for me. Just Ibiza, the gigs Im looking forward to and 2013 in terms of the radio show, keeping a prole growing o that every single week is important to me. Also my productions - my music is something Im really focusing on, so maybe look out for some new tracks coming from me later in the year.

  • The Problem with TattoosBy Charlotte GraingerPublished April 2013

When people said (and by people I mean my parents) Dont get a tattoo, youll never get a job, I thought they were exaggerating...

So I did the clich thing of getting a matching tattoo with my best friend about three years ago. e tattoo itself is small, its a magpie drawn out in monochrome and is hidden on my le ankle.

Its become apparent that its not only employers who will judge you for a bit of ink. My boyfriend recently told me, aer Id met his mum, that I shouldnt have it on show around her. In the same week my cousin told me to hide it when we were in a car with her parents. In both situations I was quite oended. e idea that having a tattoo can change how youre seen as a person is ridiculous, but in some cases it seems to be the truth and a sad truth it is.

Ohm Sweet Ohm w/ Eats Everything @ PlugBy Laura KeenPublished April 2013

Just weeks away from the looming fate of the real working world, all assignments handed in and 6000 words into my dissertation, I couldnt help but feel I deserved a small reward. Whilst I was pondering over what this reward would be, Eats Everything turned up at Plug and I accidentally (on purpose) acquired a ticket and before I knew it we were pulling on the glad rags and heading o into town. I still had to be slightly sensible as the end was nigh with the dissertation, so we headed to Wick At Both Ends for some equally sensible (ish) cocktails.

If you havent experienced the taste-sensation that is a Wick cocktail, you have to get yourself down. e list of concoctions is the length of my arm and Monday to Friday they are included in happy hour between 5 and 9pm. Today we decided to go for a pomegranate infused Tobasco creation which came engulfed in ames (we adopted some questionable techniques to put them out), then headed straight for Plug in time to catch the earliest sets.

Now Eats Everything was always going to gather a huge crowd, but to arrive just past midnight to a rammed club can only mean good things. Cry Wolf was on rst and he was absolutely smashing it - house tunes like they should be, with huge vocals and steering away from the repetitive two-step tech-house beat. And then the next BIG news of the night: Plug now have ginger ale ON TAP. Soon it was time to head to the dance oor for Eats Everythings big beats. With amazing light production they put on a crowd-moving, feet-shuing, roof-liing set of vibes. en I was summoned; this time to the back of the club which makes a nice change to the toilets/smoking area. e back wall was coated in vomit and we had a serious case of man down, so we sacriced Squareheads set and beetled o to the taxi queue home for some much needed TLC.

  • Suiting Up, Marvel StyleBy Yasmine GleghornPublished April 2013

eres no hiding a true Marvel fan. ey look out for any Stan Lee cameo and think theres nothing more romantic than head-butting a Russian thug. More than anything, they always (always!) sit through the credits aer any Marvel lm. If you dont know what Im talking about, youre denitely not one of them.

Maybe its the love for all things Wolverine or watching hours of Spiderman and X-Men cartoons online, but theres no denying the superhero-loving geek I have inside. Not that I wanted to in the rst place. Lately, its been impossible to hide at all, thanks to the approaching release of Iron Man 3.

Robert Downing Jr returns as millionaire antihero Tony Stark. e scene set aer e Avengers seemed bleak, which is reected in the new lms trailer. As the third instalment in the saga, the melancholic tone might be just what the lm needs in order to stay fresh. While a detailed plot description has been kept under lock, the premise does say that our hero faces a question that has been haunting him for a long time: Does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Co-starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce and Rebecca Hall, Iron Man 3 is set for UK release on ursday, April 25th.

Premier Red Devils?By Tom HardyPublished April 2013

Most people will probably agree, when I say that the name on the Premier League trophy this year has all but been decided. United are miles ahead at the top of the table and look as if theyre going to take the title back to the red side of Manchester. eres no doubt that the signing of Robin Van Persie has had a direct eect on the Red Devils dominance this season. But if they do li the trophy this May, will it be one of the weakest squads to ever win the Premier League?

Take out the Dutch goal machine, Nemanja Vidic and (a hit-and-miss) Wayne Rooney, and there arent many more match winners in comparison to previous United championship-winning squads. Yes, the likes of Evra, Carrick and co. arent bad, but would they get into any other top four side? Giggs and Scholes - as brilliant as they have been down the years - just arent the same anymore.

erefore, a lot of the Red Devils success has to be down to the man at the top. Whether you like him or not, theres no doubt that Sir Alex Fergusons managing skills are getting the best out of - what is in my eyes - a very average side.

Man City might well be blessed with world class players, but this year has certainly proved one thing: teamwork is just as important as individual talent!

When I visited Cubana I went with a large group of friends, which made ordering easy as we all ordered a couple of tapas dishes and shared. Like a traditional Cuban meal; everything is shared and everyone eats a lot. Each tapas dish costs around the 5 mark and this can potentially end up an expensive meal if you go in a small group, as you will want to try everything!

Personally I loved the Costillas, thats spare ribs cooked in a tangy BBQ sauce, and the Tortilla Tricolor, which is a traditional Spanish omelette slice. Its probably best not to go there when you are absolutely starving as the dishes are not very big; in order to ll up people with larger appetites you could end up spending a small fortune.

For what the prices lack in economy the bar makes up in atmosphere though. At night the restaurant is transformed into a mini Cuban party. Once wed eaten we hit the dance oor to try our hand at salsa dancing!

  • Sheffield is known for its steel industry, universities, The Arctic Monkeys, Meadowhall and The Full Monty, but nestled about three-quarters of the way up Division Street is the American inspired, the Common Room sports bar. Popular among students and locals alike, The Common Room boasts an impressive food and drinks menu, American-size pool tables, ping pong table and more TVs than you can shake a pool cue at.

The screens, dotted in perfect viewing positions around the bar, constantly show live sports - rugby, football and American football being house favourites - catching your attention during those breaks in conversation. Sitting in one of their navy booths, with your friends, a table full of drinks and posh packet of crisps, is the perfect starting point for a big night out in Sheff especially on a weekend.

The atmosphere is always buzzing and theres such an array of people; its not solely for students, nor is it purely locals or men in suits. There are two bars which help to ease bar congestion, particularly on a Friday and Saturday as it does get pretty busy.

For cocktail lovers, its cocktail menu heaven. Take your pick from classic beverages such as your Long Island Ice Tea, or choose from a selection of Mojitos, or mix it up and indulge your taste buds in something more quirky like the creamy Raspberry Bakewell or the Smartini (it actually has Smarties in the bottom)! Every cocktail is lovingly crafted by skilled bar staff, all with individual ways of presenting, but each just as satisfying.

Wine, various draft lagers, a rather large collection of spirits, milkshakes and local cask ales are available.

  • Its almost here. Since testing started in April last year, Google Glass has been in its Project Glass phase. A eet of competition-winning explorers have undertaken a trial to see how Glass stands up to the test of real life.

Glass promises to capture high-quality video and respond to simple voice commands such as take a picture and give directions to X. Of course, it will be able to do all the other Google-y stu like tell you what the weathers like, translate phrases and send messages. e dierence is all in the video camera and compact chips, placed on the top corner of the right-hand lens.

e glasses themselves are very strong and surprisingly bendy. Sadly, they are not available with prescription lenses just yet but Google are in talks with eyewear companies like Ray Bann to provide prescription glasses, along with a cheaper consumer Glass model by the end of the year.

Google Glass website showcases a point-of-view video of ballerinas twirling, skydivers jumping and a very excitable dog playing with a ball. Whether the level of interactivity shown in clips is accurate remains to be seen, but it looks impressive.

    In amongst the buzz, some

Google GlassMore information available laterin 2013

are still sceptical of the new eyewear, largely due to privacy issues and spam. Google, known for money-making through advertising, has reassured consumers that they will not be displaying adverts in Glass (not least because a distracting pop-up ad could lead to someone walking in to a lamp-post).

For those waiting in anticipation, three apps for the glasses have already been unveiled, and at an interactive conference SXSW in Texas, rst glimpses of the Evernote, Path and New York Times apps for Glass were shown.

Whether it turns out to be a raving success or an infamous op, Google Glass could change the way we use technology for the foreseeable future. Who knows, maybe some (very lucky) students will be glassing lectures by this time next year!

  • In Sam Raimis modern prequel to e Wizard of Oz, the title character begins as a simple circus magician and con-man. When he is swept away to the Land of Oz, he meets the three witches: eodora, Evanora and Glinda. How these witches help to inuence his selsh nature provides the backbone of this lm, ending in a spectacular nale.

I got through the door because of the visual beauty of this lm; Raimi and Peter Deming (the cinematographer) really have done a fantastic job rendering the land of Oz - but even better than this is the wizards journey as a character. When he arrives in Oz and meets eodora, he pretends to be the promised wizard because of the treasure he is shown. However (spoiler alert), when he is found out by eodora and she becomes

A British crime thriller, starring James McAvoy and Mark Strong as a dedicated police detective and his criminal nemesis, who hes been aer for years. When they nd each other again, they are forced together to combat something that is way out of their hands. Mix with guns, action, death and a political conspiracy, and youve got a great picture, right?

Wrong; so wrong. What could have been a good narrative is let down

Welcome to the PunchDirector: Eran Creevy..................................................................................................................................................................

by awful pacing, and dialogue that barely drags itself through until its nonsensical ending. is not helped by the fact that most of the characters accents are clearly fake, most obviously James McAvoys, and its hard to separate bad dialogue from bad accents. is lm does have tiny moments of redemption however, and some of the shots are composed quite well, shown when McAvoy and Strong are present during the interrogation of an old woman.

Side Eects is a psychological thriller starring Rooney Mara and Channing Tatum, as Emily and Martin, a couple separated by his jail sentence. On his release, she begins to exhibit strange symptoms of mental illness, and Jonathan Banks (Jude Law) is assigned as her therapist. Aer several attempts with various dierent medications, he turns to a new drug, Ablixa, the titular eects of which cause problems not only for Emily and her family, but also for John and his career.

While the narrative pacing feels a

I also enjoyed the perspective shi from Emily to John about half-way through the lm, which allows his character to shine in his investigative capacity. Without giving too much away, this is denitely when the story picks up, when Law and Mara prove they are worthy of so much praise for their performances, especially as the story builds to its thoroughly satisfying ending.

  • Kate Nash Girl Talk

ere was a time when the question, Do you like Kate Nash? would inspire an apathetic groan and a rolling of the eyes, but the girl has changed and shes gone all grunge. You read that right. Its not only Kate Nashs hair thats changed (the gothic black locks with white panels are reminiscent of Cruella Deville); her music has had a complete makeover as well. Aer moving to LA, the one-time twee pianist formed a new band and brought out a new album inspired by kick ass girl acts such as Hole and e Distillers.

Girl Talk is a record with a thing or two to say; it seems the singer-songwriter found her niche and is speaking out. No longer is she singing about the mundane every day, but actual issues such as feminism and insomnia. e best tracks include Rap for Rejection, which fuses the girl-rap tones of Ue with lyrics such as, Youre tryna tell me sexism doesnt exist? If it doesnt exist, then what the f**k is this?, and Lullaby for an Insomniac - a haunting acapella ballad about the trials of being sleepless night aer night. But the best track has to be, Im a Feminist, Youre Still a Wh*re. Enough said, Kate.

    Amy Winehouse At the BBC

Since her tragic death in 2011, Amy Winehouse has been elevated to the status of an almost God-like icon. For a short period it was dicult to see past the premature end of her life and recall what a great musician and writer she really was. e CD and DVD box set, At the BBC, serves as a gentle reminder that Amy was more than just a member of the 27 Club; she was also an extremely talented songstress.

e box set comes in two parts; half an album which consists of some of the most haunting live tracks to have been released so far and half DVD documentary which takes a look at some of the most intimate moments in the young stars life and the entirety of her 2007 concert at Porchester Hall in London where she sings some of her best loved ballads, such as the stunning Me and Mr Jones and Some Unholy War. Some might say that this is all a bit too much so soon aer her death, but isnt it great to hear that soulful voice just one more time?

    Justin Timberlake e 20/20 Experience

is is fantastic; Timberlake working hand in hand with the extremely talented Timberland. ere is not an ounce of doubt as to why this record has been so successful so quickly. ere seems to have been a prolonged silence since Justins musical hiatus in 2007, but the stunning star is back and we love it.

e debut single from the album entitled, Mirrors, has already spent a matter of weeks at Number One, and you can see why. e catchy beat and addictive lyrics have had us all with the lines, Cause its like youre my mirror (oh oh), running through our heads all day every day since it was released. e best part of all this? at isnt even the best song on the album; the tracks just keep getting better and better.

Let the Groove In is one of the stand out tracks, with its ridiculously catchy lyrics and salsa style rhythm, whilst Suit and Tie is a throwback to the FutureSex/LoveSounds album and has plenty of the same style and tone that we know and love. is is already one of the biggest albums of the year and its only April.

  • SHEFF IELD ALL STARS

    Amber TopazBurlesque

How long have you been in the Performing Arts Industry?

Ive been in the performing arts industry 20 years or so professionally.

What made you decide to do burlesque?

I did it for a bit of a laugh, but it soon turned into a career, as I was inundated with bookings and I was having such limitless fun. I realised I could truly express my creativity and use all my performance skills, without having to wait for the right theatre role to turn up. Burlesque made me the master of my own destiny.

Where do you get your ideas from for your act?

I have a fruitful imagination. Mostly, I am inspired by a piece of music which dictates the way I move, and leads an act, or there is a costume I really want to wear, for example in the 18th Century style. I make the costumes and design the act around it. In

this case (the performance we witnessed), my character is a drunken strumpet.

What does Burlesque mean to you?

To me burlesque is tongue in cheek, provocative, frivolous entertainment.

Who or what are your inspirations?

Music that makes my soul sing and or a song I love to sing inspires me. My intention is to cheer up an audience. Visually, musicals, films and vintage Hollywood movies inspire me. If the audience walk away smiling or laughing, that is a privilege, and it inspires me endlessly to attempt it, again and again, in new and innovative ways.

What advice can you give students who want to pursue a Burlesque career?

Hone a skill. Whether it is dance, song, comedy, circus or an instrument.

What is your all-time favourite performer quote?

It costs a lot of money to look this cheap - Dolly Parton.

Can you describe your style and tell our readers what makes you different from other acts?

Its high energy, all singing, all dancing, comedy glamour puss. Its hard to know what sets you apart. For a long time, I was one of the only UK burlesque acts that sang, danced and was funny. I suppose from the endless feedback I get from people who have seen a lot of burlesque, its that I am authentic.I live and breathe my performances, heart and soul. People really get that I am having a ball, which makes them relax and enjoy it even more.Anyone who knows me well always laughs and says Thats just you being you. How lucky am I that I get to perform around the world and have a wonderful career just being myself!

We at The Student Magazine love to see something a little different hit the Steel City, and this month we have a corker for you! Amber Topaz is a truly talented Burlesque artist, who performs to sell-out crowds around the

world. We got the chance witness one of these performances, and needless to say, we were stunned! We managed to sit Amber Topaz down for a chat afterwards and this is what she had to say.
