“ T h e f a t h e r o f microscopy, Anton van Leeuwenhoek (1632-1723) of Holland, started as an apprentice in a dry goods store where magnifying glasses were used to count the threads in cloth.”

A microscope is an instrument used to see objects that are too small for the naked eye. The science of investigating small objects using such an instrument is called microscopy.

The first microscope was developed, during the historic period known as the Renaissance, it was called optical microscope.

Long before, in the hazy unrecorded past, someone picked up a piece of transparent crystal thicker in the middle than at the edges, looked through it, and discovered that it made things look larger. Someone also found that such a crystal would focus the sun's rays and set fire to a piece of parchment or cloth.

About 1590, two Dutch spectacle makers, Zaccharias Janssen and his son Hans, while experimenting with several lenses in a tube, discovered that nearby objects appeared greatly enlarged. . In 1609, Galileo, father of modern physics and astronomy, heard of these early experiments, worked out the principles of lenses, and made a much better instrument with a focusing device.

The father of microscopy, Anton van Leeuwenhoek (1632-1723) of Holland, started as an apprentice in a dry goods store where magnifying glasses were used to count the threads in cloth. He was the first to see and describe bacteria, yeast plants, the teeming life in a drop of water, and the circulation of blood corpuscles in capillaries. Next, Robert Hooke, the English father of microscopy, re-confirmed Anton van Leeuwenhoek's discoveries. Hooke made a copy of Leeuwenhoek's light microscope and then improved his design. Later, few major improvements were made until the middle of the 19th century. Then several European countries began to manufacture fine optical equipment but none finer than the marvelous instruments built by the American, Charles A. Spencer, and the industry he founded.

Next, the electron microscope was invented in 1938. It is a microscope with potential to increase much higher than the optical. It and has been improved since then.

The basic difference between the light microscope and the electron is that the latter is not used to light but electron beams. In the electron microscope no crystal lenses and yes coils, called electromagnetic lenses.

It is not possible to observe living material in this type of microscope. The material to be studied complex undergoes a dehydration process, fixation and specialty resins, very tough, allowing ultrathin obtained using glass knives.

Q - I started our interview knowing him better: “Hello Luiz! Nice to meet you! Thank you for giving an interview for us. How old are you, Luiz? And where do you come from?”

A – He said: “Hi César. I'm 21 and I come from Varginha.”

Q - Then I continued: “Well, you might have left your hometown to study. How long have you been living here?”

A - I've been living here since 2009, but I always go back to Varginha in holidays and dur ing my vaca t ion .” He sa id .

Q – In addition, I asked him: “Luiz. For all this time that you've been living here, have you ever felt homesick? What advice would you give to an outside student get over it?”

A – He replied me: “Yes, I have. Usually in the beginning when I had just arrived I felt homesick. Calling my family or talking to a friend usually solved the "problem". I think UFSJ also has a Psychology program to help students who are leaving their homes for the first time. I never took part in it but I guess I'd recommend it for someone who is homesick.”

Q – Changing the subject a little, I asked him about the English: “How long have you been studying English? Have you s tud ied o the r l anguages ye t?”

A – He replied: I'm not sure but I think I've been studying English since 2004. I guess I studied it in school before that, but I didn't put much effort to it. I've studied ancient Greek in college, but it was only the basics and I'm not able to use it. I started studying modern Greek in the internet then, but I hadn't the motivation to continue it.

Q – After this, I asked him about great difficulties he has found learning English during his course… And he answered me:

A – “I don't know if I can say I had great difficulties learning English. I think that it's the kind of thing you learn if you have time and put some energy into it. And since I started learning it early, I had a lot of both to put into it. But the hardest part to me was the listening part, but I think it's natural having difficulties in some aspects, so I don't know if I would consider it a great difficulty.” He concluded.

d

Q – I know what he said, so I asked him: “Tell us Luiz, have you used any strategies to study pronunciation, reading, writing or listening in English? Which ones?”

A – He said: “I think the contact with English outside the classroom helped me a lot. I always watched a lot of American movies, usually subtitled, most songs I like are in English and I used to play a lot of video-games that usually were translated into English. The internet also has a lot of pages in English, and since they usually are more complete (sometimes there isn't even a Portuguese page on the subject, although the opposite also happens), I used to search for them instead of Brazilian ones. So I guess this contact with English since early motivated me and helped my improvement. And I didn't use them because I would improve, but because I really like them. Maybe they were the reason I started learning English, now I'm not sure!” He exclaimed.

Q - I've heard he is going to apply his English for job. So I asked him: “Are you going to be an English teacher?”

A – “Yes and no.” He said. “Sure I'm planning to become a teacher someday, but it's not in anytime soon.”

Q – I'm sure he will be an excellent teacher! To finish our interview I suggested him: “Would you like to give an advice to anyone who has just started studying English?”

A – He advised: “Don't give up and put some effort into it. I think having contact with English language products would also be good, like watching movies and listening to music, in other words, listening to things you really love! Not only listening.”

Q- It's been interesting talking to him. But I needed a picture of us together, and then I asked him: “I was wondering if I could take a photo with you for our gazette.”

A – He answered: “Well, of course you can. It's my pleasure!”

William Shakespeare was born on April 26, 1564, he was an English poet and playwright. He was considered the most important writer of the English language and the best playwright of all time.

His work is one of the most important in world literature, and is still used by many artists, even today. Among his most famous works are Romeo and Juliet, Othello, Hamlet, Macbeth, The Taming of the Shrew, and a Midsummer Night's Dream. Many of his works have been adapted for movies, plays, street theater and even ballet.

Hamlet was one of the most important works of Shakespeare and it is a tragedy which Prince Hamlet seeks revenge for the death of his father. The main character Hamlet, is considered by many scholars as a philosophical character, and one of the most important passages written by Shakespeare is this famous soliloquy in which Hamlet describes his pain and suffering to uncover the atrocities committed by his uncle Claudius, to get to the throne of Denmark:

“To be or not to be, that is the question;Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to sufferThe slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,And by opposing, end them. To die, to sleep; No more; and by a sleep to say we endThe heart-ache and the thousand natural shocksThat flesh is heir to — 'tis a consummationDevoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep; To sleep, perchance to dream. Ay, there's the rub,For in that sleep of death what dreams may come,When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,Must give us pause. There's the respectThat makes calamity of so long life,For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,Th'oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,The pangs of despised love, the law's delay,The insolence of office, and the spurnsThat patient merit of th'unworthy takes,When he himself might his quietus makeWith a bare bodkin? who would fardels bear,To grunt and sweat under a weary life,But that the dread of something after death,The undiscovered country from whose bournNo traveller returns, puzzles the will,And makes us rather bear those ills we haveThan fly to others that we know not of?Thus conscience does make cowards of us all,And thus the native hue of resolutionIs sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,And enterprises of great pitch and momentWith this regard their currents turn awry,And lose the name of action.”

A man visits God and says "God, do you mind if I ask you a few questions?" God says "No, ask me anything at all." So the man says "God, you've been around for a very long time, so, for you, how long is a thousand years?" God replies "For me, a thousand years is only five minutes." The man then says "That's interesting God. And, for you, how much is a million dollars?" God replies "For me, a million dollars is only five cents." The man says "Really? Well then God, could you lend me five cents please?" God looks at the man, smiles, and says "Of course my son. Just wait five minutes!"

A teacher was giving her class of small children a lesson on good manners. "Suppose, by mistake, you step on a lady's foot. What do you do?" "I say pardon me." "Very good. Now suppose the lady, to reward you, gives you a coin. What do you do?" "Step on the other foot to get a second one."

A man went to the doctor and said: - Doctor, I think my dog is talking to the couch. - And how did you come to this conclusion? - the doctor asked. - The couch told me!

The lion and the antelope walked into a restaurant in the jungle and called the waiter, a monkey: - I want a salad of grass, turf and grass - said the antelope. - Yes - said the waiter. And turning to the lion: - And you, what will you ask for? - Nothing, thank you - he growled, shaking his mane. - He is not hungry? - asked the waiter to antelope. - Listen, do you really think if he was hungry I would be sitting here?

In a village lived a poor woman who had a plate of beans and wanted to cook it. So she made a fire. When she went to put the beans into the pan one spilled next to a straw that had also slipped from her hand. So, a coal leapt down from the fire to near them. They talked about their experiences, about how they escaped from the woman's hands and about going to meet other countries.
