We here at The Sun, proudly report lo-cal hero Matt Szczur and the ChicagoCubs have signed a $1.5 million con-tract, preventing Villanova’s wide re-ceiver from pursuing an NFL career(Major League Football scouters re-main interested in Matt should hechange his mind). The 5-foot-11, 205-pound outfielder originally signed tothe Cubs in June 2010, with the agree-ment of him finishing out his studies atVillanova University this year. Matt,having played three different minorleague teams in the Cubs system,started his professional career with a21-game hitting streak. The right-handed batter and center fielder bytrade is considered remarkably fast. Hehit .347 in 25 minor league games. Ac-cording to an MLB source, Matt, whowas living in Arizona during SpringTraining, will start the 2011 season inSeason A Peoria. He isn’t expected toreturn to his Lower Cape May Countyhome until after the season is over inSeptember.

He won bysinging an impression of Johnny Mathis - “hehas always done that so well,” Jeannie said,“and it finally paid off!
