Be sure to stop by the newcomers table (located just outside the Great Hall) after the 10:00 a.m. service. A greeter will answer your questions about our church and the many opportunities here. We’d also like to get your contact information so you can receive weekly parish emails and so one of our shepherds can help you explore making the Chapel of the Cross your spiritual home. If you can’t visit the newcomers table, fill out the contact information portion of the welcome brochure from the pew and drop it in the collection plate. Celebrate Van Quinn Today is Dr. Quinn’s last Sunday as Organist and Choirmaster before his retirement. A parish-wide reception will follow the 10:00 a.m. service today. To make a tax-deductible donation to Van’s farewell gift, make a check out to Chapel of the Cross with “Van Quinn farewell” in the memo line OR visit the parish website. Click “Sustaining our Church” at the top, scroll down to “Memorial Gifts,” and click the link for one-time gift... when prompted to select a fund, click on “Designated Offerings” in the drop down menu and note in the optional memo line that it is for Van Quinn farewell. Please mark your calendars. Child Care and Children’s Chapel Children’s Chapel will be held at 10:00 in the chapel. The nursery will open at 9:45 a.m. Child care for special programs will be offered in the nursery (infants and toddlers) and on the playground (preschool and elementary school). Children using the playground during this time must be signed in and out of the supervised child care or accompanied by an adult. Please see a staff member when dropping off or picking up your child. Pastoral Care If you experience an emergency (such as a death, hospitalization, or personal crisis) after hours, call 919-929-2193 and follow the prompts to connect to the emergency priest on call. Prayer Requests To request prayers contact Ellen Cole, at [email protected]. Please secure permission from the person whose name you are submitting. You may also add prayer requests to the weekday service prayer list located in the vestibule between the chapel and the parish hall lobby. Guild of the Christ Child welcomes new babies and children to the Chapel of the Cross. Please let us know if you are expecting a child through birth, adoption or foster by contacting Ellen Cole ([email protected]). PARISH NEWS Let Centering Prayer draw you into a deeper life with God… …and more balance within yourself. Centering Prayer can set you on the right path. The Centering Prayer group meets in room 303 on the third floor each Tuesday from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. The gathering includes a brief check-in, about 25 minutes of sitting in silence, and a closing educational period. All are welcome; no experience is necessary. Martha’s Circle The 2nd Tuesday Women’s Bible Study will convene in the Overlook Room on Tuesday, June 13 at 9:15 for a continuation on the General Epistles. This month’s focus will be on the Letter from Jude and will be facilitated by Nancy Tunnessen. New members are welcomed. Come see how COTC is a part of history June 18 As part of the Diocese of North Carolina’s bicentennial celebration, a group of history panels will visit Chapel of the Cross the week of August 18. Diocesan archivist Lynn Hoke will make a short presentation during coffee hour following the 10 am service. The panels will be available then for viewing in the Great Hall. The panels will remain at COTC through the week, on display in the second floor lobby and hallway. Also on June 18, following the 5:15 pm service, the Rev. Brooks Graebner of St. Matthews, Hillsborough, and our own Terry Eason, will present a 45-minute slide show on diocesan church architecture and history. All are welcome to attend. Telemann and Friends Concert June 17 Soprano Elizabeth Joyner, mezzo-soprano Tamsin Simmill, and members of the North Carolina Baroque Orchestra present a concert of arias and duets from Telemann cantatas, commemorating the 250th anniversary of Telemann’s death. Saturday, June 17 at 4:00 PM in the chapel; donations may be made at the door. For more information, contact Elizabeth Joyner, elizabethterryjoyner@ gmail.com. Potluck Suppers will be held on the second Wednesday of each month (June 14, July 12, and August 9). Meals begin with a blessing at 5:30. Participants should bring a dish to feed their family plus 2-4, and plan to either arrive early to set up, or stay a few minutes extra to clean up. This fellowship meal is for everyone – those with children at home or without, one-year-olds and 100-year-olds, longtime parishioners and newcomers. There is room at the table for all! Short (30 minute) intergenerational programs are being planned to precede the meals. Stay tuned for details. Help Needed The Good Samaritan Guild is asking for nutritious soups and casseroles to replenish our freezer. Please make in small to medium sized containers and label with date and ingredients - note Good Samaritans on the label. They can be left with the desk staff during the week or go into the kitchen freezer on Sundays. Containers and labels will be available outside the Great Hall today and through the week. We are also interested in collecting a list of individuals who might be willing to be on a meal train list for parishioners in need. When the need arises for some on-going meals, an email would go out to those individuals to give them the opportunity to make and deliver a fresh meal. Delivery can be worked out by Good Sams if necessary. Being on the list does not commit anyone to signing up when an email is sent. We would like to have a bank of people to turn to when the need arises. If you are interested in participating, please contact Peggy Pratt at [email protected] Special Worship Come one, come all to the Special Worship Service on Monday, June 19 at 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel of the Cross. This monthly service of worship, songs, and stories especially for our neighbors and friends with developmental disabilities happens on the third Monday of each month and all are welcome. It is followed by lemonade and popcorn! Dinner on the Grounds - a Summer Tradition This Chapel of the Cross version of a covered dish takes place on the last Sunday of each summer month. Bring a side dish and we’ll provide the fried chicken and iced tea. Delicious food and social time begins after the 10:00 am service.
