The Sunday TimesGiving List 2021
2
The top 200 philanthropists in the UKThe Giving List shines a light on the good that flows from wealth creation. For the first time in the 20-year history of the list, charitable donations from the super-rich topped £4 billion. The £4.305 billion gifted over the past 12 months representing a 36.1 per cent rise on the £3.164 billion given the previous year.
Covid-19 has fuelled the giving spree and £520 million of donations have been tracked to this end alone, covering PPE supplies, the alleviation of food poverty, community support and the vital area of helping to plug the £10 billion funding gap in the finances of charities up and down the country.
The Giving List shows the pandemic how the pandemic has united young and old in a common cause. This year, an increasing number of younger people feature among the most generous on the Giving List.
20 years of the Giving ListThis is the 20th anniversary of the Giving List and we’ve been proud to partner with The Sunday Times since 2005 to produce it. In addition to the top 200 philanthropists in the UK, this year we feature a list of the 30 leading Giving List donors of the past 20 years.
