MADE IN STRATHCONA MOST WALKABLE STREET 2021 – YEAR ONE RECAP!We’ve launched an initiative to make East Hastings Vancouver’s most walkable street by 2021. For this year we focused on building familiarity with the Strathcona neighbourhood among people in the Lower Mainland, attracting people and businesses to come to the neighbourhood to explore our community, and collecting benchmark data on how people feel about walking on East Hastings. To learn more about this year’s initiatives, head to our blog at strathconabia.com/blog.

THE SBIA WILL BE SWITCHING THE COMMUNITY SAFETY PROGRAM PROVIDER TO PALADIN SECURITY STARTING SEPTEMBER 1.

This is a result of a recently completed request for proposals for the program, which has been contracted out to the current provider since 2013.

The current provider will be on shift until 4pm on September 3. More information will be distributed to members leading up to the launch date.

Great and walkable destinations:Have diverse amenities for the community

Have a sense of comfort & safety

Are accessible

Provide a sense of social connectedness

We will be building on our existing community assets and targeting these four criteria to create a more walkable street. We are developing a metrics framework that will look at things like pedestrian activity, evening use, public amenities, local business ownership, environmental data, and more to measure our progress moving forward.
