NEW HOMO ERECTUS FINDS IN THENEW ENGLAND DISTRICT.

In the course of the get-together meeting between the members of the executive of UFO Research NSW and UFOresearch enthusiasts at Barraba, north of Tamworth, Heather and I carried out field investigations on the Horton River,and also at Horton Falls, for evidence of pre-Aboriginal Stone-Age hominid occupation.

Following close on our recent successful investigation in the Coonabarabran area, far to the south-west beyond

Gunnedah, in which we uncovered fossil remains and crude stone tools of a larger form of Homo erectus, our Barrabainvestigation has resulted in the uncovering of fossil and tool evidence, and of six skull-types and a giant hominid fossilfootprint. One other skull, that of a giant Homo erectus endocast, was too heavy [basalt mineralisation] to remove fromits rivers edge situation.

Heather and I arrived in Barraba on Wednesday 20 th May, two days ahead of the gathering so we could carryout searches before the weekend get-together. On Thursday while investigating the Horton River on the Horton Fallsroad, I uncovered a number of primitive eoliths, or dawn tools of Homo erectus type from ancient Pleistocenedeposits.

Moving on to another riverfront location 30km from Barraba, while searching river gravels I chanced to pickup a hominid face impression, the mineralised specimen distorted outwards on its left side and the braincase missing.The face had been distorted slightly leftwards, with large eye sockets and a vertical face as in modern humans. Basedupon the rate of mineralisation and other factors I date this fossil to around 250,000 300,000 years. This modern

human-type specimen is 20.5cm tall by 18.5cm width across the facial area by up to 10cm in depth.I soon afterward amid the dislodged gravels of an ancient Pleistocene bank, uncovered a faceless endocast. At

first I almost discarded it as a simulcra but Heather pointed out anatomical features to make me realise that I hadrecovered the endocast of a classic Homo erectus, whose contours, despite a few missing pieces, showed the specimento be a long, narrow skull [ie doliocephalic] with a low, receding forehead and prominent brow ridges. It measures

19cm long from rear of braincase to nasal area and 21.5cm long from rear of braincase to base of upper jaw front [nolower jaw present], with a depth of 10cm from behind the brows and up to 12.5cm from crown to base, and up to12cm wide across the crown. This skull is at least 500,000 years BP [Before Present] in age.

As the afternoon wore on I continued to comb the riverside gravels recently washed from the old Pleistocene[Ice-Age] banks, when I came across yet another endocast, this time displaying features reminiscent of the proto-Homo erectus ironstone skull from narrow neck Plateau outside Katoomba, which coming from 2 million year oldsediments, is the oldest skull of the Homo erectus line so far found by me [Thursday 6th January 2005]. This incompleteBarraba district specimen, like its Blue Mountains cousin, possesses a pointed sagittal crest although this has been

smoothed by water action in the past. Unlike the narrow neck, Katoomba skull, which came from deposits of thebeginning of the Pleistocene/end of the Pliocene period, this Horton River basalt specimen is much later in age, ataround a million years BP on various technical grounds. Lacking a braincase, the right eye socket and thick brow ridgeare noticeable whereas those of the left are worn almost unrecognisable. The fossil measures 18.8cm from rear to browridge in length and 22.5cm long from rear of base of skull to front of upper jaw area [no lower jaw surviving]. From thesagittal crest to back of the skull is 15cm in depth, by 22.5cm wide across the top of the brow ridge area. The skull iscertainly that of a proto-Homo erectus and represents a population which had lingered on in the Barraba district forabout a million years after its Katoomba cousins had probably vanished.

*****There was one other find, made earlier that day on the Horton River, high up on a bank beneath a pine tree

where it had at some stage become wedged during a past flood. The site was on the road to Horton Falls. At first seeingit at a distance, I could see the basalt rock resembled a human head. Upon closer inspection, allowing for water-

smoothing over a long period of time, I detected two eye sockets and brows, and a prominent projecting nasal areawhich gave the appearance of a possible mummified head to the specimen, which had a low, receding forehead leadingup to a missing braincase. I believe this specimen to be an incomplete mummified head of a late Homo sapien, but ofmuch greater age than the Homo sapien face impression described earlier, and therefore have given it an age ofbetween 500,000 and 800,000 years BP.

I had in fact placed it in a bag separate from all other specimens, as at first I thought it to be a simulcra. Onlyafter describing all the other skulls found on Thursday 21st May did I take a closer look at it to realise that I really hadrecovered a weathered mummified human head, whose age suggests that the evolution of Homo sapiens from homoerectus may date back much further than scientists currently believe.

*****There was one other, small endocast of an archaic [ie flattish cranium] Homo erectus. An obvious juvenile

specimen, it displays large eye sockets and forward-projecting face, but the braincase is missing. What remains of the

skull endocast measures 15.5cm in height by 13.5cm width across the frontal section of cranium, by 8.3cm in depthfrom rear of skull to nasal area. Being an archaic form, the fossil must date back no later than about 1 million years.The endocast came from the same river gravel deposits as the others. At this point the day was ending so we returnedto Barraba.

Returning on Friday 22nd may we explored areas of the river in the Horton Valley. At one location I stumbledupon a large basalt endocast of a giant Homo erectus-type skull, lying on its back, wedged firmly between stones. Tooheavy to remove, all I could do was draw, photograph and measure the specimen, whose owner would surely havestood around 3.66m or so in height. The skull included the lower jaw area mineralised to the rest of the fossil. Imeasured the skull at 44cm long by 20.5cm deep. The two large eye sockets were 7cm by 7cm in width and length andseparated 4cm apart. The skull was 28cm wide across the forehead area and 25cm wide across the lower jaw area, therear of the skull being 25cm wide. This monster hominid fossil should be about the same age as the other Homoerectus skulls; it is anywhere between 600,000 to a million with emphasis on the 1 million years BP era.

Following the Saturday get-together at the Barraba Backpackers establishment, where I spoke on BlueMountains UFO activity, the following morning everyone drove up to Merlene and Laurie Godreys property at HortonFalls. Cut Road Creek runs through the property to plunge over a big waterfall at this location. After discussions, a talkby William Johnson on UFOlogy and then some general partying, I left the group to explore along the creek. Onceagain I uncovered an ancient Pleistocene strata, and it was from the base of this that I recovered a small Homo erectusskull endocast.

This fossil, missing some of the rear of the braincase, nonetheless displays two eye sockets and a projectingface which includes the lower jaw area. The little fossil has some distortion in that the right facial section has in its earlystages of burial around 1 million years BP been crushed inwards by a large pebble or something similar, and there isa gap on the underside of the left of the skull where a portion of small gravels has at some stage become detached. Theleft eye socket is partly filled with sediment although the socket outline is still visible, the sockets being 1cm apart, thesockets measuring 3cm in width by up to 7.5cm in depth behind the eyes and 7cm depth at the projecting face section.

The skull is 11.4cm tall at the facial section by 10.2cm wide across the cranial area, 8cm wide across the face at the eyes,6cm wide at the nasal area and 4cm across the lower jaw section. There is no forehead, its flattish cranium making it anarchaic of the kind that died out in Java around 1 million years ago as the forehead began to evolve. [There are far toomany measurements involved with each skull described, so that I merely give basic measurements for all].

This skull resembles another archaic Homo erectus of roughly the same size, recovered on a nearby propertyon Thursday 12th August 2004, which was dated to around 800,000 years BP.

The following morning while the rest of the UFO Research NSW executive drove home to Sydney, Heatherand I made one last visit back to Horton Falls to visit our friends Vernon and Cheryl and also search for a giant fossilhominid footprint in volcanic ash rock making up part of a waterfall on their property. Vernon and I searched but nothaving seen it for a long time neither of us was sure where it was. Then we spotted what may have been the samefootprint. It measured 52cm long by 32cm wide across the toes, 29cm wide at mid-foot and 27cm wide across the heelby 8cm deep. A left foot, its owner would have been no less than 3.66m in height. The impression pointed north-west,

the direction the giant [probable giant form of Homo erectus] had been walking through the then cold volcanic ashdeposit at least a million years ago.

A short time after recording this find Heather and I had to leave for home. The fossils clearly showing that thisregion of the New England countryside had been inhabited by Homo erectus hominids at least 1 million years ago andlater.

There had been eolithic tool finds of this age also, such as atop a hill overlooking the Horton River, whereprojecting from hard ground I found three crude implements a pebble chopper, a chopping/bone-smashing tool anda second bone-smasher, the later tools being used to obtain bone marrow. These tools resemble those of Java Homoerectus.

Our Barraba visit was a huge success in our continuing search for Australias pre-Aboriginal Old Stone-Ageinhabitants and we will certainly be back in Barraba as soon as we can to resume our exciting search.

At one location beneath a tree trunk alongside the Horton River,Rex Gilroy found a human head endocast.


Another human endocast of a hominid [skull] face was recovered at anotherriverfront location, 30km from Barraba, lying among river gravels. It could

date between 250,000 -300,000 years BP. It measures 20.5cm tall by18.5cm wide across the facial section and is up to 10cm in depth.

This endocast of a classical long, narrow [doliocephalic]brain case and faceless frontal section Homo erectus skull,was dislodged from a Pleistocene embankment. It measures

up to 21.5cm long with a depth of up to 10cm and up to12cm wide across the crown.

SEARCH FOR THE COONABARABRANYOWIES.By Rex Gilroy

Copyright Rex Gilroy 2009.Between Monday 20th and Friday 24th April 2009 Heather and I carried out a preliminary search for fossil evidence ofHomo erectus outside Coonabarabran [dealt with separately in the May Newsletter]. The fossil and stone implementevidence recovered having considerable bearing on the claims of present-day Yowie activity throughout theCoonabarabran region, particularly in the vast Pilliga and Warrumbungle scrublands.

The fossil evidence, consisting of an adult skull endocast, and the mineralised skull of a juvenile, plus a verybadly crushed and preserved lower jaw, and lower left jaw fragment, together with associated Eolithic tools, all from theperiod 1 to 1.5 million years BP, suggest the presence of a large, and apparent muscular form of Homo erectus, whichevolved through isolation and little or no interbreeding with other groups from outside the Coonabarabran area.

Today this same district continues to be the locale of Yowie [hairy people] sightings, principally of aparticularly large [at full growth[ form of these primitive tool-making, fire-making hominids.

While the fossil remains recovered have not been all that spectacular, they nonetheless represent the fossilfoundations of the Yowie mystery in this remote region of north-western New South Wales.

During our quick inspection of certain areas of the Pilliga, we visited a lonely stretch of highway where anumber of night time encounters with these hominins have been reported by eyewitnesses in recent years. I alsoinspected isolated bush tracks in the hope of finding possible footprints of these beings.

During my bush-bashing I uncovered a tall sandstone rise which, upon closer inspection of a lengthy

rock overhand, gave every indication of having been inhabited, presumably by living Homo erectus people. There areparts of the bushland hereabouts that have an eerie aura about them, and a couple of crude, recently flaked eoliths [ieDawn Tools] found while negotiating dense bush near the sandstone overhang, suggested to me that these beings stillvisit this area.

*****As with other parts of Australia, Yowies have a long history in this region. Early 19th century settlers were the

first Europeans to come into contact with these primitive beings, having already been warned about them by Aboriginaltribespeople who still inhabited the district back then.

In 1918 a Mr Tim Casey was driving a wagon load of produce from his farm along a lonely Pilliga bush track,when his team of draught horses suddenly became disturbed. Stopping, he climbed off the wagon and went to quietthem down when, suddenly from nearby bushes, he observed a huge naked male creature, who was very hairy chested,with curly hair on his arms and legs and long, dark head hair trailing down his shoulders, standing observing him and

his team. According to one of his grandchildren to whom the story had been passed on many years later, the first thingMr Casey thought of was to grab his rifle, but as he did so, the manbeast just strode away out of sight, and Mr Caseyhurriedly got his team moving their heavy load with the reigns, and his gun laid across his lap, but he saw no more ofthe huge being, which he claimed later to be about 9ft tall [about 2.75m].

There are old tracks still to be found in much the same condition as they were between the world wars,winding for many kilometres, overgrown in some places, through dense gum scrub. Hereabouts are isolated creekswhere campers exploring the area have from time to time come across large human-like feet impressions in the sand.

During the mid-1970s there were a rash of sightings claims by people from some of these isolated areas. Latelythere seems to have been a revival of sightings in the Pilliga depths, so that it may be possible to find footprints in creekmud or on lonely bush tracks. Hopefully we may find some ourselves on our planned return visit in the near future.

Across country to the west lies the Warrumbungle Ranges with its vast expanses of forest country set amidstimposing volcanic peaks. There have been Yowie footprints found hereabouts also over the years, and sightings of

these relict hominins have occurred within recent years. In one 2006 account, people settling into their tents at acreekside campground, were disturbed late one September night by strange sounds coming from the scrub surroundingtheir campground. The sounds began around 9pm and seemed to gradually move around the fringe of the camp.

Then about 15 minutes later, two 2.8m tall beings appeared in the moonlight above the creek, standing anobserving a family who were screaming out to other campers. The people could hear them crashing their way throughthe scrub into the distance.

The Pilliga-Warrumbungles region remains a home to perhaps a few wandering family groups of living Homoerectus, better known as the Yowie, or hairy man [on account of the kangaroo and other marsupial hide garmentsthey wore] of ancient Aboriginal tradition. Hopefully the Gilroys next visit to this mysterious expanse of bush countrymay turn up further evidence of current occupation, such as recently made footprints. Time will tell

Invisible Universe INVISIBLE ETs and their Landings.By Rex Gilroy

The recent McMahons Lookout events outside Wentworth Falls are not alone in eerie ET related incidents, such asthose reported in recent Temple of Nim editions, for people have experienced invisible ETs lurking about them,

such as at Hanging Rock outside Blackheath, where hikers [including the author] have had the feeling of beingfollowed, sometimes catching a brief glimpse of one or more shadowy, small greyish beings.

On the Blue Mountains and elsewhere around Australia there are cases of saucer nests some quite large indiameter, having been found on properties where some unseen craft had landed the night before, silently leaving thesedepressions. Saucer nests are found on properties in the Megalong and Kanimbla Valleys and west of the BlueMountains, in situations where the property owners had been only hours before, the nests having just appeared fromout of nowhere in broad daylight, and there are incidents of such depressions appearing in the ground while peoplestood nearby, such as in one Lithgow, NSW case, where a farmer came across a 15 metre diameter depression inground that he had only ploughed over half an hour before!

These invisible UFOs and their crews are obviously on another dimension to us, although the new digitalphotographic technology may be able to capture images of them in the same manner a light energy orbs.

The invisibility of these UFOs and the beings who fly them could therefore be on another dimension of

Space/Time, that is, another universe parallel with our own.There are people who have claimed they were abducted by ETs into landed spacecraft in areas where other

people would have seen them and the craft, yet actually saw nothing.If, as I theorise, that these beings are present here invisible to us on another dimension in another universe;

how then was this parallel universe formed?I propose a theory which places this event back at the time of the latest Big Bang about 15 billion years ago.

This theory holds that, at the very millisecond of the mighty explosion, there was a jolt which caused a split in Time, inwhich the matter which was to form our universe was divided into two groups which, independent of one another,developed on different time scales. This could explain how beings on this other dimension, and their craft, could landhere unheard and unseen due to their being on another time dimension.

Therefore such invisible ETs could abduct earthlings one way or another in their invisible state, and theirabductees could only see their abductors at this time.

Once released from the craft it would be invisible to them and the craft would take off unseen.In another situation astronomers cannot see this other universe through their telescopes or any other current

technology. Yet those ETs can see our planet and universe. Surely this is due to their being on another fasterdimension, in that at the moment of the Big Bang jolt that universe had a millisecond start ahead of ours, andtherefore they could be eons ahead of us in technological advances.

Their world, and themselves have evolved much further ahead of us in that their development was somewhatfaster compared to our own evolution.

Evolution on the particular planet where the said beings come from is probably along similar lines to ours, withthe evolving of life from primitive micro-organisms leading to various other animal forms, among which wereprimitive creatures along the lines of our primates; thence into their version of hominids, or astro-hominids to use anexpression.

These beings would probably have evolved through stone tool and fire-making to eventually rise to their

advanced state of evolution and super-space technology.On this other parallel universe there would be myriads of stars and planets like our own, among which are

planets capable of supporting life, including intelligent life.What could these invisible ETs look like? If their evolution is somewhat ahead of us, they should resemble

ourselves, but perhaps with larger heads housing larger brains than ours.On other parallel planets intelligent life forms could have evolved as intelligent energy in the form of light

energy orbs, which come from the natural electro-magnetic energy found in the ground of the said planet. [We mayalready be host to such a locally-evolved life form].

This proposed parallel universe manifests itself in other aspects, ie the ability of very young children to seeelementals and various other beings not visible to other people. Digital photography can, as the author has recentlyproven, capture some of these entities living on that other parallel world.

People have claimed to have been abducted by invisible intelligences. These intelligences may be in the formsof light energy orbs, as I have found, having been followed by dozens of them one night at Katoomba Falls Lookoutand creek walk.

If our future space travellers are to eventually explore outer space, with the aid of Time Window technology[when it become available] travel between these worlds will become possible, taking minutes of Earth time to and fromworlds.

On another aspect, invisible ETs have established bases here on earth. I recall my invisible ET out on the dirttrack to Hanging Rock Lookout at Blackheath. Aboriginal legends point to an underground world, or base establishedin this area in the long ago Dreaming. By the same token they could have a base above ground without being seen byearthlings.

If the Big Bang resulted in the creation of a parallel universe that is a little ahead of us in evolution, what ofthe possibility of yet a second parallel invisible universe, which went backwards in time by perhaps an equal distance tothe other one?

If it exists it would perhaps explain peoples claims of having been abducted to the past, by ETs [or earthlings?]from our future, by the same invisible means as before.

These impossible possibilities came to me at the April 4th 2009 meeting of UFO Research Sydney, and I wrotethem down, as if told to do so by some presence that I often feel around me!

On the weekend of 23rd-24th May 2009, the members of the UFO Research NSW committee gathered at Barraba inwestern NSW for a get together with our long-time friends and avid fellow UFOlogists, Laurie and Merlene Godfrey,Vernon Scott and Cheryl Tavner and other local UFO researchers. After a get-together with the locals on the Fridaynight at a local coffee shop for an enjoyable dinner we met again the next morning. The venue on Saturday 23rd wasAndys Backpackers, where, after a morning of some general lively discussion into the future of UFO research, and thepossibility of more future get-togethers in Barraba that continued on over lunch, I presented a talk on Blue MountainsUFO mysteries. This was followed later by Hugh Mulgrew who showed a science fiction movie. Also on display was acollection of 1960s newspaper clippings of local and general interest stories of UFO sightings and contacts.

We were still discussing UFOs that evening when we all enjoyed a delicious fish and chip dinner from the localfish and chip shop.

The committee members consisted of Wendy Burnham [President]; Hugh Mulgrew [vice President]; Claudea

Donlan; Peter OBrien; Joanne Kanda; William Johnson and the Gilroys. We all stayed at the Playhouse Hotel fromwhere on the Sunday morning we all drove up to Horton falls for a day at Merlene and Laurie Godfreys farm whosehome stands near Cut Road Creek, which passes through their property and over a large waterfall and has been thescene of a number of strange occurrences etc. We all had a walk down there before the partying got under way, withmore discussions and a talk by William Johnson. As night approached we prepared for a Skywatch, but unfortunatelynothing showed up. However, some light energy orbs were caught on camera by Peter OBrien, Heather and myself.

Thanks to the Godfreys we all had a great time and we hope it wont be too long before we make anotherBarraba visit.

Everyone except the Gilroys left for home on the Monday morning. Heather and I returned to Horton Fallsfor a day with Cheryl and Vernon where together with Vernon, I did some exploring and fossil-hunting the result beinga huge giant hominid fossil footprint near their home at the top of Horton Falls. We finally left around 4pm and arrivedhome about 2am Tuesday!
