two hours later….– After a long court battle, Bell was recognized as
the inventor of the telephone– since the original patent over 600 challenges have
been made—all have lost

• Well….– Born March 3, 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland– 1870 moved to Brantford, Ontario with his parents– Worked in Boston as a professor– Bell said it was invented in Canada, but made in
the USA– 1st long distance call made in 1876 in Ontario– Died August 2, 1922 Baddeck, Nova Scotia
Up until the 1930s you could have any colour phone you wanted—so long as it was black.
Different colour phones became more common in the 1950s.

• In many rural communities in particular ‘party lines’ were still in use until the end of the 1970s.
• More than one house was hooked up to the same line, but each house had its own ring tone
• But anyone could pick up the phone and listen in….
