I am looking forward to 2007, and I am sure many persons in our neighborhood are doing the same. In 2006 we dealt with a lot of issues; I am sure 2007 will bring even more issues for us to deal with. But that is what keeps us improving; we deal with the issues given to us, improve the circumstances, and move on. Hopefully we will have learned from the past and will apply our lessons to the future. That sounds like a good new years’ resolution!! Annual Homeowners Meeting Announcement The Ridgewood HOA Annual Meeting will be held on Thursday February 15 at Wiley Middle School on East Crystal Falls Parkway. One purpose of the Annual Meeting is to elect a Board of Directors to run the Ridgewood HOA. To be considered for the Board, all candidates must file with the Secretary of the Board or the Property Manager no later than January 12, 2007. Candidates may file by email to board@ridgewoodhoa or [email protected]. Candidates may prepare a short statement of candidacy setting forth their views of the organization and goals for the next year. This ‘resume’ will be sent to all homeowners with the candidacy list and the public notice of the annual meeting. No floor nominations will be considered at the Annual Meeting. Please contact the Board at [email protected] if you have any questions, concerns or comments. Celebrations Every month we ask for residents to submit celebratory announcements, such as birth announcements, birthdays, anniversaries, bar-mitzvahs’ and bat-mitzvahs’, and things like that. Committee Updates, News, & Notices: TaxCommittee:ThefocusoftheTaxCommitteeistocommunicatethetaxissuesandupdatestoRidgewoodresidents.TherehavebeenseveralmeetingsoftheTaxCommitteetodate.Theconcentrationofthecommitteehasbeentoresearch,verify,andcommunicatetaxinformationtoit’s’residents. InlastmonthsnewsletterImentionedthatIwastryingtogetthosewhoowedbacktaxesalongerextensionthanthelawcurrentlyallows(January 31, 2008). I have been in contact with the offices of our key legislators,SenatorOgdenandRepresentativeGattis.Ihaveprovidedboth offices with a proposed amendment to the relevant statute, as well as other background information and justification to support this statutorychange.Ifthisnewlegislationispassedandsignedintolaw,thosewhoowebacktaxeswouldbeallowedanextensiontorepaythebacktaxeswhichisequaltothetimethatthesebacktaxeswereerroneouslyomitted.Iamhopefulthatourelectedrepresentatives(OgdenandGattis)willsupportusingettingthisstatutorychangethruthelegislativeprocess,andintolawearlyin2007.Staytuned!! Formoreinformation,[email protected] SocialCommittee:TheChristmasfunctiononDecember3rdwasagreatsuccess.Pam,onceagain,didagreatjobinorganizingthisfortheneighborhood.Gary,oftheNeighborhoodWatchcommittee,servedover120cupsofhotchocolate.Thesmall,mediumandadultkidsreallyenjoyedthetrainridethattookthemthrutheneighborhood.Afterwards,manyofthechildrenstoodinthecoldjustsotheycouldsitonSanta’slapandtalk.Committeemembersandresidentsallcommented on the success of the event. And so did Mrs. SantaClaus. Contact:[email protected] CrimeWatchCommittee:TheCrimeWatchCommitteealongwiththeSocialCommitteeheldameetingonDecember13th.Themaintopicsofthemeetingincludedspeedingwithinourneighborhood,whetheritwasbyresidentsofourneighborhoodorpersonsdrivingthroughourneighborhoodasashortcut.Thereistalkaboutlookingintoaddingspeedbumpsonvariousstreetswithinourneighborhoodtocurbthespeeders.However,theLeanderPoliceDepartmentarenotonlylookingforpersonsthatspeedthroughtheneighborhood;butarealsowatchingforpersonsnotproperlyusingtheirturningindicators,orpersonsnotstoppingatstopsigns,orevenpersonsrunningintohomes.Thisdidhappen,andluckilynobodywashurt. Parents, Boys, & Girls ThereisaNewChapteroftheInternationalOrderofDeMolayforboysnow formingand theAssemblyof the InternationalRainbowforGirlsismovingcloser.Itisnotscouting,andisnotareligiousorganization.Butitisagreatsocialgroupforhomeschoolandpublicschoolstudents.Thelocalchaptersoffercollegescholarships,friendships,leadershiptraining,communityservice, game nights (X-Box, chess, etc), movies, sports,public speaking, dances, and competitive events statewide.Requirements include boys ages 12 – 21, and girls ages 11–20.
